Hate how this dude is wrapped up in GG because I get excited when this thread gets bumped because I'm legitimately excited about the fucking game but instead it's a fucking GG post even after a mod asked people to stop.

Any news on the progress on this? Has the tech demo been updated at all since launching for Baron supporters?

Yes, a new build was posted about a day ago. Still crashes within one minute on my computer but I think that's because I'm putting the settings too high.

This is the main difference for me playing on very high settings

Its just not funny, though.

Wish he'd just quit with that shit and keep his agenda pushing out of discussions about the game.

I did find it funny, though. Just like I found the witchhunt at Matt Taylor ridiculously overblown, even if I did find his T-shirt stupid.
That said, I agree that it would be better if Dan left that stuff out of the videos about the game, since it does lead to focusing the discussion at it instead of the game.

Yes, there was a video posted about the update. Which happens to start with the guy demonstrating his Gamergate ideals before getting to the god damn game update information. Thats why it was getting talked about again.

I thought they were directly referencing/satirising the insane witchhunt on Matt Taylor...he'd likely do that even if there was no gamergate thing going on.

Also there has been one more update after that:

And lastly, something nice:

They already said there's no third- person mode. They wanted to focus exclusively on authentic first-person sword combat.

Gawd dangit noooooooooooooooooooooooo.
There is barely any point in playing an RPG without 3rd person mode.
What is the point of upgrading your gears if you can't see it during battle?
Oh boy...looking at your paper character sheet with their gear on is fun.

The environmental graphic is amazing though =/.
I guess I will try it out to see if 1st person will work since melee combat is always janky and awkward with 1st person perspective.

Since when is 3rd person a mandatory requirement for an RPG? Gears in this game have specific stats and aren't just cosmetic in nature which adds to the simulation of the game world that will define how your character is interacted in the game. Also, the sword combat is designed mechanically around 1st person. It just simply wouldn't transition well when pulled back from the character unless you are willing to have 2 separate combat mechanics.

There is actually quite a large discussion on the kingdomcome forums, since the third person camera was proposed as a possible, potential stretch goal:
http://forum.kingdomcomerpg.com/t/p...retch-goal-what-about-3rd-person-camera/20355

But I don't think they reached any clear conclusion just yet.
Personally I don't much care either way, I will still play in first person.

BTW the alpha also added a beautiful map:

Blame the forum they did a poll and over 200 people hated the idea of an optional view that they wouldn't have to use and was already in the game anyway for dev testing purposes. So it's probably not happening.

Ah, seems that 'update' is just the same video without his nonsense at the beginning of it. Good. That should be the go-to one for people interested in the game to watch.

But just having the view isn't good enough for people. If its there, then people will want the playability of that 3rd person mode polished to a high degree so they can play the whole game like. Which takes a lot more work and resources. There is a reason that its a stretch goal and not something they are simply including by default 'since its already there'.

Come on now. In the update where they are making T-shirt joke it takes like 1 minute out of 15 minute video which is all about the game.

Pic isn't showing up.
Huh, I can see it here.

Precisely this. It might be good, if they don't want to spend the time to polish it completely, to just leave it as unofficial option, something to enable in ini file or whatever.
It would be nice to have for making screenshots and just walking around and stuff like that, even if it is not polished for combat and whatnot.

Clearly it's going to take more work, but it's also something that they could reasonably add without increasing the dev time of the game.

It shouldn't be there at all! He shouldn't be forcing his politics into game development updates. He can do that through other avenues. Its hugely annoying.

Thanks. Its ok. I'd prefer something a bit more cartographic. Is that what the in-game maps will look like or is that just a little bonus thing they've done?

Yea, I wouldn't mind that at all.

At the expense of development of other areas. Otherwise, extra work = longer development time = extra costs.

The entire point of pitching 3ps to the community, was to pitch a stretch goal that wasn't massive, as to not extend development by a significant amount, but was also fan requested.

The point of it is that its going to require extra costs and development resources. Maybe it'll mean they cram harder when it comes time to do it and they use the extra money to pay employees for overtime or something, but common sense dictates that it *will* take extra time otherwise. Time they wouldn't be willing to put in if they didn't have the money to justify it.

Well 3rd person view could be fun option, but who knows how much of extra development it would need and aparently its not that requested by backers (iiirc there was some urvey about that )

Yeah, dat cognitive dissonance, eh?

And like Seanspeed said, his agenda has nothing to do with the contents of his game whatsoever. To say that prudislav is uninformed and barking at the wrong tree is putting it mildly.
ok sorry for wall of text and whatever "politics" and "agenda" i supposedly support by that -
but i am just annoyed that this thing is still going on, and real discussion is nowhere yeah i am completely uninformed about that whole american overblown internet bullshit whatewer hastag both "sides" are using now. To me its just 2 "sides" of extremists forcing their ideals onto others hurting the industry in crossfire. I am only informed about what my friends in WH things about it which is enoughs for me.

Not sure if all maps will be like this, though I would expect them to be. I think it is intentionally done in a style resembling classic czech painter Josef Lada's style.

Possible covers...which one would you prefer ? I like the first one more.

Weariness, pain, exhaustion with tattered clothes as the character holds up to his sword for support. Emotional and powerful, conveying the very nature of the game of it's sheer brutality of the world solidifying the image as one who has the weight of the burden on his shoulders holding on from the ordeal he just been through.

Eyes up, chin down. The definite standard for dudebros, bombastic cinematic movies and of course the face of AAA gaming itself.

It's a no brainer for this one.

Damn, well said. I still like the second artwork, but first one is a lot more memorable.
And damn at that video, hilarious :D

If they chose the first, it could be a Dead Island trailer situation where if the game isn't emotional in some way then it's kind of misleading. It's really nice but I haven't seen any part of the game evoking that tone.

Well the story hasn't been spoiled apart from the broad strokes, for all we know it could be plenty emotional. But even if it ain't, this art work does not necessarily represent Henry (PC), it can be just some random soldier exhausted and whatnot.

Plus the Dead Island trailer was amazing even if it did not represent gameplay or tone of the game and I am glad they made it.

Thank the Lord that at least these developers don't feel the need to use chromatic aberration. Those shots are gorgeous.

Here are all I took, downsampled from 4K to 1200p. I used maximum ingame graphic setting. My 970 averaged 18-20fps :)

Oh and btw the combat seems pretty interesting, very unique. I love how physically real it feels. But it will take some time to learn it properly.

Reminds me of what I thought Stalker looked like in 2004 or whenever that was. Just a wee bit brighter and cheerier.
The shadows on the edge grass is interesting. Feel like games don't typically do that. It works pretty well. At least at this distance. Dunno if they look funky closer up or in motion.

The teased rift support a few months ago right? Please announce it and I'll buy the game in a heartbeat.

afaik they said that VR should be supported since cryengine supports it.
But I doubt they will give it huge priority, given the already pretty insane scope. Plus stuff like horse riding will probably not be very easy to make comfortable in VR.

Looks great! Still not digging the title though...

Too bad the gameplay doesn't look too hot and the A.I. won't even be close to what they're trying to achieve. I mean I love the graphics, the environment is absolutely stunning but the swordplay tutorial actually turned me off the game (I've only watched the dev stream). Also the dialogues were laughable with terrible VA. The world just seems empty too, there are huge vistas to explore with nothing worldwide to collect at least from what I've seen. It's more a simulation that a game and for that reason I think a lot of people will be turned off. At least it's different, but unless I see more interesting gameplay my opinion stands.

I actually tried the swordplay and it is something new and unusual. It takes some time to learn, but it is very far from usual melee button mashing. I think it will be one of the most interesting melee combat systems ever devised, when finished.
Dialogues/VA are all placeholder, as are all the character models, lipsync etc.
Whether they manage to get the AI working as intended is anyone's guess, but they do have people from Charles's University helping out.
As for the world, they are not aiming for potato Skyrim landscape, but something more realistic. RDR had similar worldbuilding style, didn't see it turn off many people.
