In order “to improve employee job satisfaction”, the Dynasty Warriors maker has announced plans to introduce an average 23 percent increase in base salary, it said on Friday.

On average the move will see workers take home an extra 73,000 yen ($569) each month.

Koei Tecmo will also increase the monthly starting salary for new graduates by 56,000 yen ($436) to 290,000 yen ($2,260), it said.

And in addition to its regular performance bonus, Koei Tecmo said it’s introducing a new special bonus to reward employees for early achievement of its mid-term management plan.

The changes will be introduced in June but backdated to the start of the company’s fiscal year this month.

The announcement comes on the back of a “favourable” performance in the company’s last fiscal year and reflects its confidence that it will exceed its profit target during the current fiscal year.

“We are implementing these measures in order to reward our employees for their efforts and to create a better working environment for their further growth,” Koei Tecmo said.

“Based on the belief that human resources are the most important asset of the Group, we have long been working on measures to improve the job satisfaction of our employees.”

So $27,000 US per year. Thats the equivalent to working FT at $13.50/hr. A McDonalds dude can make more.

I never knew until some recent articles this year that Japanese companies are dirt cheap paying employees. Although these are low level employees. Who knows how much the vets get paid.

The lowest job at my company are probably marketing assistants and they get somewhere around $50-60,000 CDN. Our university summer students would get paid about $20/hr just to do some shitty excel and ppt work.

This is a few years old now but still very relevant.

It's a very sad state of affairs, however low pay and unstable jobs really puts pressure on the younger generation of Japan.

Crazy what is written below. How does a place like Japan have such shitty healthcare. I'll take a guess and the society is so engrained to being a robot, there's no place for person to person mental health care. Just eat a few pills and go away.
Japan's mental healthcare system is also a mess.
There is an acute shortage of psychiatrists. There is also no tradition of psychiatrists working together with clinical psychologists.
People suffering from mental illness may be prescribed powerful psychotropic medicines but unlike in the West, this will often not be accompanied by a recommendation that the patient seek counselling.
The counselling industry itself is a free-for-all.
Unlike in America or Europe, there is no government-mandated system of training and qualifying clinical psychologists.
Anybody can set him or herself up as a "counsellor" and it's very hard for someone seeking help to know whether they actually know what they are doing.
