http://www.ripten.com/2008/03/14/mgs4-confirmed-50gb-blu-ray/

It was revealed last month that a Blu-ray disc wasn’t big enough to hold all languages for the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4. Since all previous Playstation 3 games have resorted to the more constricted 25GB Disc, it was unclear whether MGS4 was to stray from this trend.

Many presumed that Kojima decided to go with a 25gb Blu-ray disc to save on costs, but it was yesterday revealed in a Konami retailers meeting that the game is the biggest of the series, and will be presented on a 50GB disc.

biggest of the series, and will be presented on a 50GB disc.

presented on a 50GB disc.

50GB disc.

:O

(Deep do good? Ps. this better be true, and this rep is telling the truth...he could have been misinformed.)

I didn't follow this story, but wasn't it speculated that this could be easily solved just by compressing the audio?

What did you expect? Kojima joked about how 50GB wasn't enough and you think they'd just go "lol jk it's on a 25GB disc"

And? My computer from a couple years back has a hard drive smaller than that. One game, one disc....50gb. MGS4 is a milestone.

No he didn't. He joked how Blu-ray wasn't enough. It is perfectly resonable that they'd decided to stay on 25gb...since double layer blu-ray is hardly produced yet and is quite a bit more expensive.

If it was that easy, they would have done it.

kinda. it's uncompressed audio/languages, so it feels like it doesn't count all the way.

So more space, better game, right?

Yah.... not denying MGS4 is gonna be awesome, but it just sounds stupid

Really? Could've fooled me. Pretty much every single movie out there now is on a 50gig. And there sure are a hell lot more movies than PS3 games. :p

I'm still discovering things in MGS3 (the normal not rereleased version). Things like spinning the camera around to throw ups (good for getting rid of bad food I was told), the r1 or r2 during cut scenes to reveal Ocelot saluting type of stuff. I'm still not done with MGS3, and MGS4 has HD so I will probably be reading books on ZoE, and the past MG games. Even a tv in a weapons engineer's office on the past mg surveillances is possible. Who know's what goes on in Kojima's mind but I like the results a lot!

once you have played with uncompressed sound (resistance) you know that compressed is inferior.

Why do people keep saying this?

More space= more content to make a better experience.

so essentially it trickles down to a better game

I am risking sounding like a fanboy, but when you have Mass Effect and GTAIV on dual sided DVDs... its just hard to grasp that concept. Once again, I am not saying MGS4 will be bad, I think it will be one of the most awesome games ever to this day, but the logic is stupid.

To fit on a BD25? Maybe? On a DVD9? Doubtfully.

Btw, this really surprised me, I would have bet money on them talking about a 25GB before instead of a 50GB oO

It's probably what people have said Uncompressed sound eats EATS the shit out of space man and that is what probably what is happening here.

I agree but its not stupid logic to see that more space=more content.
