Its funny how Kotaku is labeled as an AntiSony shop so often. They are just journalists, and when theres not so much to write about, they will do bland articles like this one no matter the company they talk about.

This sums up the Xbox brand perfectly right now.

It's all fake, manufactured hype, and Microsoft is guilty of it to a nauseating degree. It regularly reaches levels of cringe that are beyond painful. XO18 was basically unwatchable because of it.

Sadly, this is what happens when you have almost nothing to actually hype up, especially when those products aren't very good to begin with.

Lets hope all those studio acquisitions they keep boasting about actually lead to some decent games in the next generation, because that's all they've got to work with right now.
The fake hype around xbox is strange to me. There is literally nothing to look forward to in the next 2 years that we know about games wise. Gears 5 has jumped the shark made a female lead which I don't think is going to appeal to gears of war fans like they think it will, Halo is way off, and crackdown 3 from what ive seen looks like a 360 game.

As for the studio acquisitions, time will tell. Obsidian and ninja theory are the only ones that I think will make any sort of difference and its not like either of those were putting out master pieces. The Forza studio was already only making xbox games. I think early next gen much to peoples frustration we will see some big 3rd party money hats because Microsoft gonna Microsoft. The market has spoken almost 3 generations in a row that the xbox is not a worldwide popular console but that wont stop Microsoft from buying up the industry because consumers wishes be damned. Hopefully most big third parties, particularly Japanese learned their lesson from last gen.

I don't see what the problem with it is. So long as they don't overdo it and just keep it to one show probably every 3 months I think it is valuable.

Fanboys posts like these used to have consequences.

By the way, you say the market for 3 generations has spoken that Xbox cant be a popular console worldwide and made a clear implication that should drop pout and developers should leave the brand, but notice you don't mention the same "market" rejected Nintendo for Xbox and now Nintendo doesn't have a real home console?

I never said they should drop out. I was pointing out that with the exception of the stars aligning for them and sony having their head up their ass for half a generation in the 360 days, the xbox has been at best a regional console. I had an opinion, yes its very biased. Instead of showing me where im wrong, youre suggesting my account "have consequences?" Are you "Microsoft Hunert Smoke's" alt account?

Edit: As for Nintnedo. Nintendo doesn't shit up the market by bribing third party games from the majority of console owners. Ninentendo usually keep to themselves.

It has the most powerful console, the biggest variety of games and all the third party games running better on it and the best value overall for customers.

The only people who see a problem with what MS is doing are fanboys.

I haven't been able to stomach a full inside xbox episode since they've started to be honest. I love my X, but it's kind of the same thing with Sony and their baked in media prescence like what they did at E3. Both companies hire a bunch of folks to swoon over games that may or may not deserve the level of affection they get in these shows. There is a complete lack of critical honesty in these shows, which is why I don't like watching them.

Don't get me wrong, I love E3. It's just the sideshows that both companies present that I'm not a big fan of in general.

I don't mean this to come across as a smart ass or condescending, but what games might these be? What variety? and you used console power twice in the same sentence as a bullet point. the DS is under powered even when it came out and its still a great system, powerr isn't everything.

, the xbox has been at best a regional console.
When you sell tens of millions of consoles outside of a region this statement becomes inaccurate.

I had an opinion, yes its very biased. Instead of showing me where im wrong, youre suggesting my account "have consequences?" Are you "Microsoft Hunert Smoke's" alt account?
Already spinning and trying to change the topic by putting blame on me for you making inaccurate statements. This isn't how you have discussions sir.

Sure, if you pretend Nintendo didn't have consoles before the Wii. Or you know, ignoring Sony did the very thing you just said. You also spelled Nintendo wrong, twice.

Biggest variety of games?! It literally has the same games as its competitors with worse first party support lol

This is the only reason why you're in the thread. You're not here for honest discussion, you're not here to share opinions, you're only here to antagonize.
It’s becoming more and more apparent who here are actually gamers, and who are just console warriors. It makes some opinions very easy to dismiss, and at the end of the day that’s all most of it is, opinion.

It’s also insulting to all the 3rd party devs and publishers that make up 90% of the games out there, to just have them dismissed or not count as games, because they are not exclusive.

None of the consoles have a lack of games or players, and everyone is free to enjoy what they like, regardless of reviews or internet outrage.

This seems like the best case scenario for all gaming companies, but unfortunately some people just seem to be unhappy with that.

Personally not a fan of Nintendo Direct, PlayStation Access, and whatever the hell this Xbox show is. Don't like major Nelson either. It's like a direct advertising line. Not sure why people prefer that to the media. Sure some media has clickbait but watch those that don't, at least then you get some impartial coverage.

I don't have a dog in this fight but actually yes, I can play most of them. I have to buy them but I can still play a big part of that 'variety' on a PS4.
Old versions of games aren't variety anyhow.
LMFAO this is beyond dumb, in order for it to be most it has to be at least more then half, and that is simply not true.

And games don’t count as variety because they are old games? Do they stop being games at a certain point?

Or are we dismissing them for fun?

Don't even use BC games as some for of exclusivity. They are still playable on those systems if need be.

But I csnt remember the last time I was dying to go back and play dead space
Sure they are playable on those systems, but you lose access to a ton of current gen functionality, screenshots, streaming, party chat with friends on current systems while playing.

You also dismiss the boost they get in res and performance when untouched, and the fact that the ones they do touch up look as good as some of the early gen remasters.

For the record I played Dead Space 1,2 and 3 in Oct as part of my shocktober marathon. Something I would not have done if they were still stuck on my 360.

I don’t understand why people have so much trouble giving credit to MS when they do something right and are so quick to dismiss them, when the moves they are making are going to help everyone as the competition will step up and compete with those features.

I can’t imagine where we would be without Sony and MS pressuring each other in the ideas and features department. Everyone would be so complacent, we’d probably still be fighting for in game XMB.

Edit: For the record, I don’t count the BC games as exclusive for XB1, but I do count them as part of the library, as they are playable natively on the system, and therefore do contribute to the variety of games and overall game number.

This variety. Can you play any of those on the PS4?
No and I don’t want to. That’s why I still have my PS3 and 360.

Edit:
Backwards compatibility is a neat feature. I do wish ps4 has and am hopeful that ps5 will have at as patents and rumors are suggesting it will. Thing is there are so many games I have on my backlog from this current gen that it’s hard to go back.

It has the most powerful console,
This is irrelevant to anyone who owns a PC. Also, power doesn't make games better. If it did, the Switch would be trash.

the biggest variety of games
...what? Huh? It does? Where are they? I want to play them!

all the third party games running better on it and the best value overall for customers.
Again, this is irrelevant to anyone with a PC. More important, that extra power isn't really being used to create anything truly special that can't already be done somewhere else at a slightly lower resolution.

The only people who see a problem with what MS is doing are fanboys.
This is a lazy ad hominem argument.

I owed the original Xbox from the day it released. I had an active Xbox Live account for almost a decade straight. I have a gamerscore of 75,000+. I still regularly play Microsoft releases on my PC. So explain to me then, why have I been completely lukewarm on the hardware since its inception? Why does nothing on the hardware excite me or make me want to pick one up?

It's not because I'm "a fanboy".

I'm about as far removed from a fanboy as you can get. I have no platform preferences. I simply don't see any exclusives that make the hardware worth buying. The few games I was interested in and stood out for me... they ended up cancelling.

I think you may be projecting a little.

I would actually say it is still 'most' as a lot of the crap is split into single game there. Things like frogger etc are part of Flashback Classic collections and other such trilogy packs now. But I digress, you seem to have an issue with me using the word most but not the person I replied to using the word 'any'.

But in the end, the X1 has the biggest quantity and variety of games.
