Incremental upgrades are the future. Nintendo saw it decades ago with GB->GBC, and again with DS->DSi and 3DS->n3DS.

All console manufactures begin work on the next console as soon as the release one. There's no indication as to when this PS4K would launch. Is it said to be similar just because it's running x86 architecture again?

Uh. Isn't 4K called 4K because it has 4 times the amount of pixels as 1080p, not twice.

Most "4k" TVs are 2160p (which I think is....3840x2160 -- that first number is near 4K?), iirc

Seems a reasonable assumption, based on the comments from MS regarding this. Whether or not people will accept incremental upgrades for Xbox, Sony has to be ready to answer if it turns out to be true.
