Laser eye surgery

Anyone had it done recently? I'm booked in for Trans-PRK next week, eyes weren't bad enough for SMILE, and not suitable for LASIK because of work.

Only $1200 dollarydoo's per eye so I figured fuck it.

It doesn't seem like laser eye surgery would be a "why the fuck not" endeavor, but I'm sure that's just a casual way of starting a conversation and you've discussed all the pros and cons with your eye surgeon.

One thing to note, a former FDA adviser said recently that Lasik, which is the successor to Trans-PRK, should be discontinued. However, I can't claim that the article also applies to PRK.

I would personally never consider an eye surgery unless my vision was so impaired that it could not be improved with glasses. I've also been influenced by a radio host here in Southern California who did live commercials for laser eye surgery while he was dealing with the complications from laser eye surgery. It always stuck in my mind. He told the story years later when he was no longer being paid to read the commercials.

I worked for an ophthalmologist who specialized in laser eye surgery and cataract removal for a few years and I can say that for people that get it done, it can be life changing.

I haven't done it myself because I hear your night driving gets a lot worse, and your eyes can become too dry and you need eye drops forever. So....I'm waiting for 20/20+ implants baby

my brother just had it done - you just walk in and you're out an hour later with sun glasses and perfect vision WTF

I heard you can get haloing or whatever it's called so I'm too scared to try it. My vision is already fucked enough. Good luck though op.

Get the surgery if your vision is going to shit.

got PRK done. Prk is the type of surgery were they cut open the eye, make the corrections and seal it back up.
!st couple days after surgery your going top feel lots of pain. They're going to give you meds for that.
Started feeling better on the 4th day. I was able to go back to work on the 8th day.
It was worth it. money and pain wise.

Got SMILE done. Took about 3 months for my eyes to stabilize. I went from wearing glasses since I was 7, to -7.5 in each eye, to not wearing any at all.

I had mine done 10 years ago, Couldn't have a laser to cut my lens open, so they did it with a knife (takes longer to heal and you get to see someone stab you in the eye)

The best way i can describe it is like going from a shitty 27inch CRT to an OLED 4k UHD screen overnight. Changed my life convenience wise and saved me a shit load of money in glasses and contact lenses.

I wanted to get laser eye surgery for a while, on a whim I popped in to Optimax to see what the deal was. Four days later I had lasered eyes.

Personally I wouldn't do it(and I'm speaking as someone who had cataract surgery and I feel that's a lot safer than LASIK).

What worries me about LASIK is that it's altering your cornea permanently. Cutting a flap in your lens is something that can heal, burning away a part of your cornea isn't.

I was blind A.F. I needed glasses that would have cost £500+ for one pair and £750+ if I wanted the 'thin' lens type.

I remember the dude saying "it will look like you've gone under dark water" just as he thrust the tip of the scalpel into my eyeball.

OP: before you get it done, find some super dark sunglasses, set up a very dark room and don't expect to watch TV for at least 24 hours after surgery. I slept 30 out of 36 hours after my surgery and afterwards, watching TV was pretty painful. It took 48 hours before I could watch TV with shades on in a dark room.

Just thinking about it makes me anxious. Couldn't do it, cutting my eye is like my phobia

Yeah they said I had to be at least -3 to get that due to structural integrity of the eye, but I'm only like -1.75.

Don't care. No one is fucking touching my eyes with a blade.
You are saying right now A 4kOLED does not look any better than a 27in CRT? That seems like I will save heaps of money!

Watching TV in a dark room is painful even without any surgery, unless you dial down brightness to near 0. Why couldn't you just set contrast, brightness and back-light very low? TV becomes almost black when you set everything to zero.

Why? What's the issue? How is it any different from getting any other kind of surgery? My mom works as a head nurse in the ophthalmology ward for over 30 years now. Does dozens of operations per week without any issues. Eye is pretty easy to operate on generally speaking.

I have reading glasses and miss the detailed visual clarity of my youth, but it doesn’t bother me enough to go get laser surgery. My knee on the other hand...

It is a religious thing. No one touches my eyes, fingertips or tip of my penis with a blade.
No exception.

Other areas of the body are ok for surgery.
Well, I can only pray you never contract any serious eye illness or suffer any injury, especially as you get older (cataract, sparks from fire or fireworks, splinters, cork from a bottle etc.).

Sure.
At least my pure eyes, fingertips and penis will let me enter heaven.
Small price to pay to not go to hell and damnation.

It's like a fear of flying. Planes might not go down that often, but when they do you're usually fucked. And well, if your eyes get fucked up in any way and you become blind, you're going to hate yourself because the surgery wasn't even a necessity.

Did it almost 11 years ago, still don’t need glasses. Full pupil dilation can create halos but I got used to it.

Any medical intervention inherently has risks. Go to a legit doctor who will appropriately screen you

Sure, but you can say that about literally anything. You might die during pretty much any surgery or activity for that matter. You might slip in your tub tonight and kill yourself.

The thought of smelling my burning eyeballs while I’m awake makes me ill. I can’t imagine putting myself through that shit. Rather not even have eyesight than suffer that. 🤢

They sit you in a fancy chair, and give you some fancy eyedrops. Then you relax in the chair while listening to some music for 10 to 15 minutes as the eyedrops to their thing. Then a nurse comes and walks you to the operating room, where you sit in an even fancier chair. A machine on a mechanical arm, very much like what an Optometrist uses to test your eyes, gets pulled down and aligned with your eyes. You're told to stare at the light. You can hear the room, and see vague movements on the edge of your vision, but that's about it. By the time you realise something is going on (you can't feel squat at this point due to the earlier eyedrops) the machine gets lifted, they put a medical blindfold on you, and you're escorted back to the first chair to sit down. You're done.

If you want to be genuinely ill, check the youtube videos on the procedure from the outside point of view. But as the patient? you don't feel or see anything. It's just done so quickly and surgically (pun intended) that it's over before you know it.

I might look into in the future, I’m currently wearing hard contacts that I haven’t taken out for about 3 weeks 😕

It will be a year since I had it done. Gaming is still a bitch because my eyes dry up so much. So I basically have eyedrops in every corner of my house like water glasses in Signs.

You might not have to have a knife in the eye. It depends on the shape of your eye and how blind you are. Nowadays, 90% of people have laser-laser, instead of knife-laser.

What? 4k OLED looks shit loads better than a small CRT

Any light source is just a no-no. I use a 65inch in a pitch black room and I have it set to 'slightly' dim. But, my eyes shoot lasers so it's all good.

Had LASIK done in 2008. Surgery was super fast, recovery was quick too. Only pain was after surgery when the meds wore off. Felt like an ice pick being jabbed in my head, but that passes quick.

I had it like 15 years ago and it's still perfect, no hypersensbility or dry eyes and 13\10 of sight, but i don:t remember the exact name of the procedure.

I can see good things even in the last jedi, that's how good my sight is.

Prepare yourself for 3-6 days of nightmare after the thing, you will feel like you have sand inside your eyes, and do both eyes in the same day not in separate days.

Had it like 18 years ago. Other than some higher sensitivity to lights in the dark (still can drive tough), it has been perfect.

I had it done this past June (I think it was june) and it was easily one of the best decisions I've made. Surgery was painless. Recovery was quick enough. No side effects.

Everything worked, and continues to work great.

For the people that had it done, do you know exactly what type of surgery you had? I'm pretty much committed to getting it within the week regardless. Bring on the Labrador.

Four days post op now. Operatioin took like 30 seconds per eye, no pain, weird smell. I did have to break out the numbing eye drops on the first night to go to sleep though.

Still have to drip 3 different types of eye drops in and cream them up during night, but my vision is already better than what it was before, and I should be able to drive by the end of the week. Might try some gaming soon because I'm a responsible adult.

Lasik has come a long way. Now it's like an assembly line. There's a few caveats, but most of the time it's fine.
