I can go back to not caring about Late Night and going to bed at 10PM. *old man*

If we're lucky. My fear is that they'll do the last show without realizing it's the last show.gdt5016 said:5 Conan Tonight Show episodes left.
Surprisingly awesome from start to finish.GK86 said:

Various posters have said right away but when you read the article linked it always says something like the deal will allow to host a show well before his contract ends. So that could mean a year from now. One article said as earlyas september or late as januaryMagnus said:So, if I'm understanding these early reports right, Conan *will* be able to host a show on a competing network right away if things fall into place?
I'm sure they can find one of craigslist.Jubs said:Yes. But realistically, he probably won't be on t.v. until the summer or fall, since a network (Fox?) would have to get a bunch of their affiliates to agree to it. Plus, they'll need to build a studio, which takes time obviously.
Yes, but don't read too much into that. It's going to be a while (probably Fall at the earliest if you start hearing actual negotiations being rumored after new week) before it would be on the air.Magnus said:So, if I'm understanding these early reports right, Conan *will* be able to host a show on a competing network right away if things fall into place?
You mean SAVES the show, right? Oh man, I can't wait for Jay to reclaim the show. It means more gems like Headlines at 11:35 again. I just don't get how he does it. I mean, I think anyone producing a newspaper has bullet-proof editing, but among the hundreds of papers produced on a daily basis, some of the stuff that gets printed is unintentionally funny due to awkward phrasings and typos, and Jay and his crack team find them! It's a comedy gold mine. No one else in comedy can produce grade A material like that. Nobody!joshcryer said:They need several weeks of No Conan Drama before Jay steals back the show.
EzLink said:Fallon still doing nothing about it. I know he likes to stay on peoples good side and doesn't want to polarize himself but he could at least make neutral jokes about it
joshcryer said:Yep. Conan can go to FOX Jan 23rd if he wanted to. It looks like they're giving him a payout, too.
Watching tonights show, and after watching all of those Carson clips, I'm sickened. Conan would have been the next Carson. The next fucking Carson, guys.
Yeah, because Late Night hosts have a proven track record of being successfully promoted to the Tonight Show...Jubs said:It's to be expected. Dude is heir apparent to the Tonight Show now (barf).
Well if he does go to FOX, all he has to do is be better than Chevy Chase to not be the worst failure on that network.joshcryer said:If Conan goes to FOX he will eat in to a shitload of Leno's ratings. In fact, if it goes like it did with Letterman, Leno may never recover. Yeah, I understand all of the arguments in this thread. I have read every single one guys, so no need to repeat them. I'm not saying that's what *will* happen.
But oh do I fucking hope so.
Other than Community I don't watch any NBC shows (well, Conan).
Even better - people send them in. They probably have some interns sort through them. It's the laziest bit on television.Steve Youngblood said:I mean, I think anyone producing a newspaper has bullet-proof editing, but among the hundreds of papers produced on a daily basis, some of the stuff that gets printed is unintentionally funny due to awkward phrasings and typos, and Jay and his crack team find them!
Jubs said:It's to be expected. Dude is heir apparent to the Tonight Show now (barf). Offending anyone is the last thing he wants to do. Funny(sad?) part about it, is that he could be hosting TTS in 5-6 years, when Jay actually decides to retire for good.

That's a great question. I wonder which of his recurring sketches and characters he'd be able to take with him. Maybe that was part of the agreement that cost him the $10 million.grandjedi6 said:Who owns the trademark to Triumph? Please don't tell me NBC.

It's Robert Smigel's own thing. He can do whatever he wants with it.grandjedi6 said:Who owns the trademark to Triumph? Please don't tell me NBC.
joshcryer said:I bet Leno holds on to The Tonight Show until he either dies or his health is so messed up he can no longer do it.

The conversation was something like, you may get a shitty deal where you're currently working, but sometimes a new opportunity opens across the street (Olive Garden). She then said they're both Olive Garden people. It wasn't any super secret code about Conan being on Fox, but I read it as her thinking that's where he'll end up.B.K. said:How do you get that out of that?
I got that out of the message as well. Conan quickly spilled into a joke (unintentionally?) but yeah the story was a very coy cover story for see you at fox in a few months wink wink wink wink wink.B.K. said:How do you get that out of that?
My mom made a similar point today. She thinks that the major talent will be less interested in pursuing the Tonight Show since NBC has been so terrible at honoring their agreements.Number 2 said:i would think people would avoid it like the plague now. Sure it might be lots of money but its not worth the stress when the brass most likely will shit all over you.
Are you sure? On TV funhouse, one of his characters essentially was Triumph in terms of voice and demeanor, but it wasn't actually Triumph.fallengorn said:It's Robert Smigel's own thing. He can do whatever he wants with it.
