Late Night Wars - Conan's last Tonight Show was TONIGHT a long time ago

I'm pretty sure he was way too old to make that kind of reloco.
Too bad, he was really awesome.

Also I miss Conan and Max's conversations and interactions from Late Night, hopefully we'll see more of it on his new show.

So with the bare minimum in mind, how long should it take for Conan to go back on the air.

Yeah, Andy on the couch and Joel as the announcer would be amazing. Like Andy a lot, he's really consistently funny and sometimes has great insights but I really miss Joel.
I miss Joel too. What a great voice. Conan, Andy, Max, and Joel all on a show on FOX and given the opportunity to do whatever they want would be glorious.

Yeah, Goldenage writers are long gone and Simpsons will never be good again. Also Conan is made for TV and you can see that he likes doing what he is doing and isn't going back to some dark office to write Simpsons episodes. He wants to stay on tv.

BTW what is the situation with Letterman ? Is Ferguson going to take over him or Conan ? Ferguson has pretty good raitings (beating Fallon and before that he was beating Conan) so there should be no problem... Then again I really think Ferguson's humor would not cut in earlier time slot so who knows.

Letterman has about I think 3 years or so left to his current contract, and I think Paul has been quoted in saying that around then might be the time he hangs it up or announces that he plans to hang it up. Ferguson is hysterical but I'm fairly he certain he doesn't WANT Letterman's job, and is completely comfortable with his current timeslot and position. What would do him better, though, would be an increased budget, that way he can expand on his humor without having to move around.

Besides, Letterman and Conan continually keep in touch and Conan is for the most part Letterman's heir apparent, in terms of both humor and audience. But who knows.

NBC probably owns Max Weinberg and La Bamba, too.

Just thought I'd throw in that I'm for Andy going with Conan. He's hilarious, and like the antithesis to Kevin Eubanks. He's what a sidekick should be.

Andy's "I spent money" bit was hilarious on Thursday :lol

Absolutely hilarious. He sold it with such perfect deadpan... That is the funniest single bit to come out of this fiasco on any of the talk shows. :lol

I wonder how much this hurt Conan at the Tonight Show. I love Conan, but when forced to choose these last 7 months I usually chose to watch Dave. THe reasoning was that Dave is approaching retirement but Conan would go on for another decade at minimum.

That's not awful of you, makes sense. We all assumed Conan would be there for, you know, years. I still watched Conan, but I can understand why people would watch Letterman.

I've watched conan a lot and agree, but this has always been a week defense. To the casual viewer they will just be weak jokes. Never understood why the monologue never improved much since he's a funny dude
Similar to the Carson we don't remember looking back is that we watch Conan every day. Certainly he can't be legendary 24/7 but he certainly had "it" when things failed or something off the cuff occured. Hornymanitee.com was one of my favorite mistakes ever. (proudly owned by NBC). The fire drill, his self depricating (I SAW THE SKETCH it wasn't that good) Sure Conan wasn't a Letterman at interviews but he never had huge guests, a Hugh Grant Hooker Scandal, etc. but he was did ok (at worst) in my book.

Whew, thank God this whole ordeal is over.

As I have said all along, Conan is - quite simply - a hack. He couldn't hang with the big boys at 12:35 AM, and he couldn't even last in Los Angeles for a year. What a joke. Maybe if you guy spent as much time watching his show as talking about it online and watching YouTube clips, he wouldn't have gotten the axe. But what else should I expect from an audience of twenty-something, apathetic slackers that are easily amused by irreverent non-humor and frantic (albeit lame) physical comedy.

I should be thanking you all for doing me a favor, and helping Leno get his old job back - The Tonight Show will finally be watchable again. I was almost getting used to going to bed early.

This just goes to show you, NBC should have never have attempted to replace the most popular and most likable late night personality in the business. Regardless of what a bunch of competitors and fringe comedians say, Leno has always been one of the most respected men in Hollywood. Yeah, rally around Patton Oswalt and some other guy I have never heard of, but disregard comments by Jerry Seinfeld and Paul Reiser - men who have had actual, real careers.

The best part about this is Conan is done. I'll never have to hear about him again, because even if Fox is able to get just two-thirds of its affiliates to air him a year or two from now, he'll never be able to compete against Leno or Letterman. Or better yet, send him off to the fringes of cable, where he can become completely irrelevant. I'm sorry, I'm just a little bit ecstatic about the fact that Conan has nowhere to go but down.

The smartest thing NBC has ever done is jettison this red-haired loser from the network. He couldn't maintain his lead in his old time slot, and he couldn't do it in his new one. If Fox wants to bank on a proven loser, fine by me. We can watch Conan crash and burn, and Fox will go another decade before attempting another late night show.

Awesome.:D

Obvious troll is obvious.

You might want to take a look at my post history. I've been a Leno fan since as long as this forum has been around.

You can think that if you want, but Leno is the best of the best in my book and got a totally raw deal from NBC. I'm glad he's taking The Tonight Show back, because somebody needs to rescue it before Conan totally destroys it.

So what's everyone's expectations on where Conan is going next?

I think FOX seems most obvious, but I really hate a 3 way split on that timeslot. I think Conan has a better shot of rubbing it in on NBC if he can somehow get Letterman's spot so its just him against Leno and whoever his successor is.

Yes, I obviously started this troll five years ago, because I knew there would come a day when it would come to fruition.

Massive rolleyes.

People just can't deal with the fact that more people enjoy Jay Leno then the minuscule audience that watches Conan. It's like, you think there is no world outside of the microscopic one you create on Facebook or Twitter.

Guess what, more people like Jay Leno. We don't even need to rally behind him, because he's going to get the show back on his own.

And trust me, affiliates are HAPPY about Conan getting the boot.

Have you been following things or do you just draw baseless conclusions about what happened?

Damn dude. You just walked into the Lion's den and started throwing rocks.

I just get sick and tired of Internet groupies who - amusingly enough - DO NOT ACTUALLY WATCH CONAN, getting all up in arms when a far more popular comedian takes his show back.

It's not like Leno wanted to leave. NBC banked on Conan bringing some kind of youth movement, but he failed miserably.

Now we can return to the status quo, which is fine by me.

Conan needs to bring back the pleasing the affiliates sketch.

What a failure of a troll. All that time typing it up and not one bight. ;-)

Willco is the Jay Leno of trolls.

I thought you retired from GAF, you hack! Why don't you make room for new troll talent?

Whatever helps you guys sleep easier at night. I know I will once Jay is back on at 11:35.

Seriously though. If you really want to troll, do a couple of stints at 4chan first and learn the basic.

There's nothing worse than a troll who isn't good it. It gives all the competent trolls a bad rap.
