That's awful...wow, just wow. I hope he hasn't let his legal deal give the final yes to this already. Conan should seriously just mess with them now, stick with the current contract, and TAKE the 30 min bump just to humiliate and frustrate them. Sure, there's tons of bad blood that would make it mega uncomfortable for awhile, but I say just ride it out, keep your characters, keep your ability to slam the network and sit pretty with the public until Comcast comes in to nuke the joint later.
That's not a bad idea. No way Comcast keeps Zucker.

If only he didn't care so much about The Tonight Show!

It sucks though, I can't imagine Jay Leno Show at 11:35 for 30 minutes being a success. He could maybe have just sailed those waves for a year max and it'd go back to normal...maybe.

"In the year three thousand. In the year three thousaaaaaaand!"

"Jay Leno, his organic body deteriorating with age, will use his vast wealth to transfer his brain into an android so he can keep hosting the Tonight Show. After a long and successful career, NBC will announce that Jimmy Fallon will take the reigns of the show. But on the debut episode of the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Jay Leno 3000 will storm the stage and destroy Fallon with laser-guided shoulder rockets."

"In the year three thousaaaaand."

That's not legal, Fox can't artificially pay Conan a low salary for the remainder of his NBC contract.

Why can't they? Steve Jobs took $1 in salary this year. Conan could argue that he's doing it to expedite his getting back on the air so he can repair his reputation which NBC executives dragged through the mud in the press.

The other day, I watched David Letterman's biography on tv and for about halo an hour, they also talked about Jay Leno.
Basically, when he was younger, he went on the Tonight Show and Johnny Carson hated him, and never invited him back.

Is this really true? According to IMDB, Leno was a guest 4 times on Carson between 1977 and 1988 and guest hosted the show 40 times between 1986 and 1992.

It's what I saw on the biography channel. =\

Yeah, it's pretty much common knowledge that Carson preferred Letterman, but I doubt he disliked Leno that much.

I haven't heard that but it makes sense. More than likely those staffers would be working for him wherever he moves to. It does indeed sound like it is bullshit though.
I doubt they would go on any sort of record, it just is foolish. If I opened a restaurant hiring various people from all over and then closed it to save my hide before things became rough would I need to be responsible for everyone?

In the meantime they get to chill in CA and wait until the gravy train gets more steam.

During the writer's strike, Conan paid the salaries of over 80 of his employees out of his pocket. That story is a bunch of crock.

I don't think anyone can guarantee at this point that Conan can take all 200 people (assuming the figure in the article is correct) with him, since it's not even known what he'll do next.

Conan's rep has already responded to the article from the Post:

Conan O'Brien is adamant that his show's employees, who moved out with him from New York to Los Angeles for The Tonight Show, must be taken care of before he finalizes an exit deal with NBC, his rep told TVGuide.com.

Denying a New York Post report that said some staff are upset O'Brien didn't accept NBC's offer of a 12:05 slot — which would have allowed staffers to keep their Tonight Show jobs — Leslee Dart said O'Brien has been "worried about his staff since Day 1."

"That has been the first point in his discussions and would be a dealbreaker if his staff isn't taken care of," she said.

She said she expects a deal to be finalized soon.

Dart said she did not know if NBC was being cooperative regarding the staff's accomodations, but said any deal O'Brien agrees to would not overlook the staff.

Calls and e-mails to NBC were not immediately returned Saturday.

I think if he goes to Fox it's a pretty done deal that he moves almost the entire staff to that show. Come on, we know Conan, that article is tripe. He wouldn't be the type of stiff his entire staff because of his opinion of the Tonight Show's legacy. Even if he didn't win this battle, he's most likely going to make it up to his staff somehow.

Blind sources in newspapers are always risky. For all we know that could be some douchebag who's getting paid twenty grand by NBC to leak that stuff to the press for PR control.

Once a staffer actually goes on the record with being upset at Conan not having their back, I'll pay attention. Until then I'm just going to assume that if the source is unnamed then the story isn't even keel. And then, even assuming it is true, do you really think a single unnamed source can account for all 200 people? It's more tahn likely one pissy intern who won't get college credit now.

pretty sure he paid his entire staff throughout the duration of the writers strike, so I'm sure he'll try to find a way to keep them happy through this.

Why would he be paying the entire staff? Wouldn't everyone but the writing staff be paid by NBC?

You may laugh but most people speak pretty highly of the guy in numerous interviews. I also doubt the staff saw the 12:05 showing as nothing short of a pink slip from NBC.

Also not sure about the Post story. Smacks of a typical smear job, not unlike something seen in politics.

But it's funny that this story is coming from a News Corp. paper since Conan could be headed to Fox. :lol

Does anyone else thinks the first TTS where Leno is back will get huge ratings and NBC will use it as proof that canning Conan was the right decision?

NBC would never do anything like that. Period.

Yes, and then the immediate drop-off of viewers (becasue really, they tuned in to see the train wreck) the next day, NBC will write it off as "expected, but we're still making money!".

Of course that's what they'll do.

I just hope there's a few Conan fans in the audience who make it a little hard on Jay.
