Launch titles that would make you purchase the WiiU/PS4/720 Day One.

For any platform - an ENB-mod equivalent GTA game.

Or the next Bathesda game.

More sequels!

Is the answer in this thread.

Ugh, no thanks.

Ugh, not another one of these "I want no sequels" guys....

back on topic:

PS4 will by a day 1 purchase.
Doesn't matter what the other systems will get.
No buy! I learned my lesson.

I consider myself a competitive fighting game player with love for hack'n'slash, RPG games and of course everything Blizzard. That said, the platform holders would all have a hard time trying to come up with anything for THAT :D But let us see...

Wii U:
This is a hard one. If DKC2 HD ever becomes a reality with painting-like graphics and music from the original composers, I am there. Make it a DKC1-2-3(?) compilation with top notch art, and I am friggin' IN THE HOUSE! :)

Xbox 720:
Thinking back, for Xbox 360, Lost Odyssey was the game that made me finally jump in. I am no longer a believer in Mistwalker + MS, but if something along those lines would happen, I would be insanely happy. But for now, I would consider an Xbox 4 automatically if they manage to have an absolutely amazing, perfect-from-competitor-perspective Halo episode on the system AND keep the party chat and keep online-enabled backwards compatibility so I can continue playing fighting games. That is a must.

PS4:
This wont be easy. I have absolutely near-zero interest in (1/n interest, yeah, where n goes up, up, up...) in the current SCEA/SCEE/SCEJ franchises. Simply because the action/adventure/shooter direction in the last few years really was not anything that I was interested in. So two things would make me go: getting an innovative Atlus JRPG from the start, or an SRPG (not in the style of Valkyria, thx...). Or resurrecting something big. FFV remake for PS3 only is also a godsend. Or FFVI. But to keep the one game rule: FFVI HD Remake.

..that said, if any platform holder manages to secure an exclusive next Bayonetta or the next Kamiya game, I am in. Day 1.
Edit: Shenmue III is considered a realistic possibility now? I do not think so. But if that happens, Ill jump. In.

Nintendo Whatever- Absolutely nothing would make me buy a Nintendo console at launch or anypoint there after.

Next Box 720- If it launched with a game that blew my mind like Gears 1 did 5 years ago.

PS4- <$400 and this would be a day 1 regardless even if it launched with no games.

Sad to see in this day and age we still have consumers who are willing to go in blindly all due to remaining loyal and/or purely based on brand recognition.

Wii U: I seriously don’t see how a scenario with me not buying this at day 1 can occur. Maybe if the launch only has Ubisoft games.. But pretty much anything from Nintendo will make me buy it day one. Beyond that it depends how other publishers are treating it. I think the „definitive version of..” will make the Wii U hard to resist from a 3rd party multiplatform view. I also have a feeling that Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 for Wii U will be amazing. Hopefully Balance Board support continues. I’m also super curious about LEGO City Stories. If this truly is „GTA for kids of all ages” I think it will look and play great. Character, car and apartment building on the U-screen seems like a no-brainer for this.

The others: Not a huge fan of any of the exclusives for these consoles. But Shenmue 3 would make me buy any console at any price, and Rare back on form would make it hard to resist the next Xbox.

But right now I feel like I will buy Wii U at launch, and this will probably be good enough to stay competitive until PS4 and 720 drop in price and developers are ready to release games that really take advantage of the hardware.. probably around 2015. I really like the combination of new IPs and new hardware though, so if they have anything brand new and cool at launch, I might change my mind about the waiting game.

But Wii U for 2012-2015, and PS4 and/or 720 for 2015 and beyond seems like a good plan to me.

If I was made of money..

PS4:

Final Fantasy 15, new writers, exclusive

Wii U:

Another Metroid trilogy by Retro. Though I'm sure they are pretty done with Metroid working on Prime for so long.

No interest in the 720 or whatever the new xbox gets named.
Out of curiosity, why does being an "exclusive" title make the game any more appealing? Would it really devalue for you if it was also available of the xbox?

PS4 - FF VII remake
WII-U/Nintendo anything - dont care about any Nintendo consoles or games, never have and never will
XBOX 720 - Also nothing of much interest, after 360 just crapping out multiple times

So it would be PS3/PS4/PC combo like it is now

So, just curious here. Nothing says a FF VII remake must release on Sony hardware. How would it affect your decision if the remake was announced exclusively for Wii U?

Xbox 720: A Rare return to form.
PS4: A third party bonanza headed by a Ridge Racer return to form. Sly Cooper thrown into the mix as well.
Wii-U: A Retro Studios game, Super Mario Blank, or Metroid Blank.

Assuming the PS4 and Xbox 720 aren't underpowered casual garb then they're getting purchased day one regardless of the launch line-up. I'm a sucker for new tech. I skipped out on the consoles this gen so much of it will be new to me. As for Wii U if the rumored specs are accurate I'll have to pass unless we get a Mario 64 type of Mario game at or near launch. I mean with big hub levels that you can explore, not like Galaxy.

I find it kind of silly to arbitrarily lock third party games to a particular system, and I'm not sure any of the three's first party titles could get me to buy their system day one, so I'll just do a general list where I'd get whatever system these happened to be on.

Final Fantasy XV
Kingdom Hearts III
Dragon Quest XI
New SaGa game
Valkyrie Profile 3
Next game from Kamiya and/or Mikami
Skies of Arcadia 2
Dark Souls 2
Breath of Fire VI
Shin Megami Tensei IV (V? lol)

Basically, everything that'd really get me to buy a console day one are most likely never going to be launch titles or are unlikely to be made in the first place, so I'll be content with waiting ~2+ years like always before getting any systems.

As an extra, if The Elder Scrolls VI or The Witcher 3 required me to upgrade my PC to run them well, I'd probably take care of that problem pretty quickly.

Actually yes these forever development cycles are funny in a grim way.

What was more funny though was the fact that you'd present a Gran Turismo game as a launch title a possibility.

If you followed the development of the game you'd know it's not funny at all. Current cars are already being modeled for the next gen, GT5 isn't displaying the full detail they already have. The engine has already been redone from scratch, and they've already stated this would speed up development for the future games.

WiiU: A new main Residnet Evil (which si not going to happen)

720: Don't care, will buy at launch anyway

PS4: A new main Reisdent Evil (which is not going to happen anyway)

Bottom line: Only 720 at launch. ;)

RE6 on WiiU at launch is very likely imo ;-)

WiiU - at launch, hopefully with Pikmin 3 or a Retro title

Xbox - down the road, after it has accumulated some Halos and a Bethesda game

PS4 - Wipeout (the futuristic racer, not the shitty game show.)
WiiU - Waverace
Xbox 4-720-whateverthefuckthey'llcallit - Dunno. There's no 1st party stuff on the xbox I give a shit about anymore.

WiiU - If Nintendo makes a good zelda game (MM 2). Of course im asking too much here.
720 - Nothing. This console would only be for games that have bad pc ports or multiplat titles not on PC.
PS4 - Nothing. There is nothing sony has that I want. It could have been Demon Souls successors but thats multiplatform now.

3rd party titles that could be exclusive:
FF7 remake - I really liked this game so why not? It aint happening because Square is dumb and doesnt like money.

Cant really think of anything else. So many games this gen went multiplatform there was no real point except to get one console to supplement playing on PC. Thus that console will probably be the next xbox as this gen the 360 ended up with the best ports for games not on PC. Nintendo will continue to get shit on by 3rd parties. Sony will continue to have horrible ports.

Dark Souls 2
HD FF remake from 1-9 and 11
New Final Fantasy throw back to classic FF's
Chrono Trigger Sequel and or remake
Dragon Quest 11
Monster Hunter HD
Pokemon RPG HD(gameboy experience, but on console)
Classic Metroid HD
Zelda HD

Out of curiosity, why does being an "exclusive" title make the game any more appealing? Would it really devalue for you if it was also available of the xbox?

I suppose it would not devalue the game for him, but it might devalue the platform. The question was which game would make you buy a console day one. If the one game that might do that turned out a multiplatform release, why not buy it on another system, perhaps one you already own?

It might, but if GT6 is supposed to be a launch title for a console, it would more likely be PS5 than 4. There’s no chance of GT6 being ready for 2013/2014 unless it’s just GT5 with more premium cars.

It has as much as a chance then 90% of the games being listed in this thread

Not sure why people are excluding games that they "know" will be out for that console. If we are just listing what single game needs to be out, day 1, to guarantee a purchase, then:

Wii U:
Zelda.
Possibly SSB or MK (last one is doubtful). Rogue Squadron (long shot). I guess any one of these would do, mainly because I held off on buying a Wii, and plan to get through some of the backlog. So the killer apps are already there. If it's $300 or under, sold. If it's > $350 then it would need a next-gen killer app.

PS4:
Uncharted.
Almost a guaranteed buy for me. Uncharted would cement the deal, but so would probably half a dozen other games.

XBN:
Pretty tough sell. Now that Mass Effect is pretty much guaranteed to be out on PC, and even Alan Wake is probably coming to PC, it's down to Halo (Gears is meh for me). I like Halo, or used to like it, but I was vaguely disappointed after Halo 3. I think it's going to come down to the USPs (Unique Selling Points). It needs to have something that convinces me that I don't know about now. Kinect with no additional controls is a failed experiment for hard core gaming, as far as I'm concerned, but if they somehow manage to get past that and show me some unique control scheme that actually improves hardcore gaming somehow, I may bite.

I don't think anything could, I'm not buying consoles day one anymore, gotta let the first wave of consoles pass.

Sad to see in this day and age we still have consumers who are willing to go in blindly all due to remaining loyal and/or purely based on brand recognition.
It's probably based on neither and more to do with their first party.

It's probably based on neither and more to do with their first party.

Which is the most unconsistent of all three. Compare first party line-ups between PlayStation, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3, and there’s almost nothing in common. God of War has a 2+1 split, Gran Turismo has 2+2+1, Buzz and Singstar was released for PS3 but completely dropped off the radar due to a massive shift in demographics.. Naughty Dog as a developer is probably the biggest consistency, but even there it’s Crash Bandicoot/Jak & Daxter/Uncharted. You simply can’t look at past PlayStation consoles and know what will dominate the next.. except that it will have all important 3rd party multi platform games and the same controller as always. 3rd party has always been the key to the PlayStation success.. Sony could shut down all first party studios and it would probably not change a thing for the console.

(Btw, this is coming from a European perspective where PS3 reigns supreme in both hardware and software sales. But first party game sales are not matching the sales of COD or FIFA or even Assassin’s Creed. I would not be surprised if NFS The Run (PS3) outsold Uncharted 3 in Europe, although I don’t have the total numbers for the entire region)

Wii U:

Achievements online profiles no friend code BS etc (proper competitive operating system)

Not acknowledging the existing of any console from Sony or MS until one of them is confirmed ;)

The thought of buying a console on launch is laughable to me. Utterly ridiculously.

That being said.. if PS4 had a legit DMC game and it looked like it was headed in the correct direction.. I'd probably bite. Same thing with a Skyrim-esque elderscrolls game as well.

Wii U

Wave race or fzero

Playstation 4

A platformer from ND , no cover based shooting gallery.

XBox 720

Nothing after my RROD, they owe me money as far as I'm concerned.

Disclaimer: The games must be made by the same people who made the best in the series, not some new studio that just got named after them, because then there would be no point, a name is just a shell.

The similarities between the three PS consoles is that they all have great first party support. And the first party keeps expanding with more great devs. I don't think he was concerned with sales.

Wii U - Nothing. Nintendo is always 1 generation behind Sony and MS and always focuses on their retarded gimmics.

Playstation 4 - Will probably get this day 1 with a couple of games no matter the line up. Just a great multimedia station to have (if it's anything like the PS3)

Xbox 720 - If this comes out before PS4 and really impresses me (which it probably will, seeing what the 360 delivered. Still can't forget the snowy winter day when I saw 360 hooked up with King Kong on a 'massive' 40" screen in a store)

WiiU:

New Zelda, New Mario, New in-house F-Zero, New in-house Starfox.

PS4:

New Jumping Flash, New Team ICO game, New Gran Turismo.

Xbox720:

??

I suppose it would not devalue the game for him, but it might devalue the platform. The question was which game would make you buy a console day one. If the one game that might do that turned out a multiplatform release, why not buy it on another system, perhaps one you already own?
He also said he's not interested in the xbox.

PS4 - Rebuilding their online from the ground + a 360 style controller even if it's not the default in box. Persona 5 exclusive would be the one conceivable game that could make me buy it within the first year or two considering my past with Sony hardware.

WiiU - Sub 200$ or I'm not interested in the slightest at this point after the wii turned out.

Xbox720 - Honestly if it was basically a more powerful 360 with kinect built in and without the launch hardware issues I'd be 90% there. Then the first Rockstar/Bethesda/bioware game even if multiplatform would make me (OH GOD I ALMOST SAID JUMP IN EWW FUCK ME) buy one asap.

Im going to buy possibly the wii-u day one (if not a major disater comes) but F-Zero WX or Star Fox in the vein of 64 but expanded will make me shit my pants in anticipation and hype if they realese with the console.
Also new Punch-Out!! by Next Level games again, with old roster returning and lots of new and funny characters (doubling the roster would be perfect, I love too much de punch-outt!! wii characters so I need them back, logically changing their story and some of their moves). Same superb animation the wii one has and amazing cel shaded graphics that make the game look exactly like you are watching a saturday morning cartoon.
But be the same as Punch-Out!! nes and wii, nothing like Super Punch-Out!! with its easy system and non boxing characters. Although I would bring back the rival trainers.
