Launch titles that would make you purchase the WiiU/PS4/720 Day One.

Any system that could pull off a AAA, universally praised MMOFPS/adventure title with team play, competitive play and RPG aspect (leveling, stats building, upgrading) that is extremely easy to pick up and play for quick sessions but also deeply engrossing for those that want to delve deeper into a story mode would be a day 1 purchase for me. I'd also want social networking integration/iOS/android apps so that you're connected to the game world even when you aren't playing. Not intrusive, annoying crap but alerts about up coming battles or wars in your region or maybe options in micromanaging certain aspects of your character etc

Apart from that..

Wii U: have to have an online multiplayer heavy game from Retro Studios and a Mario title on day one.

PS4/720: Would have to be home to the above dream title.

Retro Studios making either a new Metroid or an original IP would probably get me to buy a Wii U much earlier than I currently anticipate.

Xbox 3:
Gears of War/EPIC game
Forza Motorsport 5
Steel Battalion 3 + Controller
Jet Set Radio 3
Alan Wake 2
Fable 4 - delivers all promises.
Otogi HD
CrackDown 3
Mistwalker/MGS game
SplinterCell 6 - assuming its still xbox exclusive.

Playstation 4:
Pretty much anything from sonys first party studios:
God of War 4
Uncharted 4
Killzone 4
Wipeout BHD
United Front games game

Wii U:
Monolith Soft game.

.

Wii U-

*insert Smash Bros character* game

720-

Halo I guess

PS4-

I'd say Metal Gear, but it probably wouldn't be PS4 exclusive.

Wii U is a day 1 purchase regardless, but I'm probably going to wait a little on Xbox and Playstation. Probably because it'll be pretty expensive at launch, there won't be any good launch games, and a price drop would happen much sooner than a Wii U price drop.

Wii U: Announcement of some sort of achievements/trophies/online system (do they seriously expect people to play games like Darksiders 2 and Ninja Gaiden without achievements/trophies?)

Other systems haven't been confirmed so doesn't make sense to assume they are coming any time soon

Yeah, I can barely hold back the urge to projectile vomit over everything whenever I replay Super Mario Bros. without there being any sort of permanent acknowledgement that I got past World 1 or that I jumped 50 times in a row.

They're a fun extra when implemented properly in something like a multiplayer focused title, but how and why are achievements/trophies still a deciding point on whether to get a console for certain people? In the end they're completely frivolous.

Wii-U: A major Super Mario game and maybe whatever Retro's been working on, though I'm probably in the minority on GAF who'd welcome a packaged-in Wii-Sports sequel. One of the few games I've ever been able to play tons with my family.

Playstation 4: Something unexpected like LittleBig Planet was for me or seeing Naughty Dog come out with a launch title. Less likely to buy this at launch but after this generation I'd still probably get one sooner than Microsoft's offering.

X-Box 720: Don't give two shits about Halo nowadays so some proper revivals of old Rare IP's... If not by Rare than by another 3rd Party with the proper experience such as Double Fine, with quirky projects such as Project Milo getting some more backing for once instead of being cancelled before they even really get anywhere.

Wii U

(ANY) Mario Platforming or RPG game
Pikmin 3 (pikmin 2 is still my favorite game from the GCN generation)

Xbox 720

Viva Piniata 3 (this series needs to continue, the original two were incredible)
Fable 4

PS4

I cannot fathom getting a playstation on launch or really ever again, I hate the dual shock controllers, so there would have to be a revision there first. As it stands My PS3 has barely been touched because of the ridiculous controller (triangle, square, circle ugh!)

On Any System

Grand Theft Auto V/ any new open world Rockstar Game
Elder Scrolls 6
Mass Effect 4

One I should have mentioned, for Wii U.

I'd love to see Pac Man Versus reborn for it. The tablet controller is made for it. Maybe it would work as a downloadable title?

the only system that will launch with AAA titles will be the WiiU because Nintendo can't afford for it to get a slow start like the 3DS. The 360 and PS3 won't see their top franchises until year 2 at the earliest

XBOX 720 - Lost Odyssey 2, Alan Wake 2, New IP from Epic, a JRPG, Halo 5
PS4 - Syphon Filter, MGS6, New IP from Naughty Dog, a JRPG, MW4

Probably more to do with developers than franchises. Really hoping we see more developers take some risks on new properties next gen

Wii U = Waverace

PS4 = Uncharted 4

X720 = X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter OR Wing Commander remake...

Actually...X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter or Wing Commander on any next gen platform (including PC) would make me buy that console (new video card) day one.

Wii U- Super Mario Galaxy 3

Playstation 4- Uncharted 4, Ratchet and Clank Future 3, Infamous 3, Metal Gears 5

XBox 720- Halo 4, Gears 4, Crackdown, Alan Wake

WiiU: Jet Force Gemini 2 or an HD remake. Fuck, probably even the fuzzy ass original would make me buy one.

PS4: Anything by Suckerpunch, Insomniac or Naughty God. Anything EverQuest (CoN remake or sequel plz)

Xbox 720: Nothing. I'm over MS and the Xbox generation.

Doesn't Rare own Jet Force Gemini? Thought that like Banjo, Perfect Dark and Conker, Microsoft is now the owner of them. So that should be your Xbox 720 game.

:p

Xbox - Maybe Alan Wake 2. I have a high end gaming PC and none of Microsoft's other big exclusive franchises really appeal to me. Alan Wake was one of my favorite games of 2010 and I really want to play a sequel but I'm not sure if I could bring myself to buy the next xbox on day 1 for it. A lot of other factors would be in play for this, like other exclusives and price.

Of course the current rumor is that Alan Wake 2 is a Next Xbox launch title.

Wii U - I'm a Nintendo fanboy at heart so I will likely be getting on near or at launch as long as they have at least one first party game I'm interested in.

PS4 - Nothing. Sony doesn't have a single franchise I like enough to buy a new console for. I waited until the PS3 hit $300 and right now it's mainly my Blu Ray player. I doubt the PS4 will be in a different situation.

Wii U nothing
Playstation 4 nothing
XBox 720 would require one coop shooter, RPG and a action adventure, for example: Halo 5/Gears 4, Jade Empire 2 and Alan Wake 2/Kameo 2/Fable 4.

Actually, Xbox is the console I would put the most faith in next gen in terms of hardware reliability because I guarantee you they don't want to lose that much money again.

No first party game would make me buy a Nintendo console - not first day, or ever unless it was truly shit your pants amazing - again not first day, ever. The endless drip of Nintendo first party sequels hold no interest for me.

Having come late, and later respcectively to the MS and Sony parties this gen, I'm much more prudent about jumping on any ships next time. It would take a whole heap of bridge building and fulfilled promises for me to ever buy another MS console after the 360 mess, and Sony have always been on shakey ground with me, but at least their products last 3-4 years rather than 1-2.

Handhelds with their countless redesigns are also off limits at launch, perhaps even more so. For me, hardware is HARD.WARE. My SNES and Mega Drive still work, why don't my PS2 and 360?

Wii U: Probably no single title, but maybe a combination of titles like Pikmin 3, a new full fledged Mario game, and some new IP.

PS4: An Ueda game that really sets the benchmark for that generation, at the start of the generation.

Xbox 720: Nothing I can think of at the moment.

Wii U: nothing

PS4: nothing really, but Uncharted 4 would come close.

720: Mass Effect 4, Gears 4, Lost Odyssey 2 (a girl can dream), Dead Space 3 or 4

WiiU-There's really not much chance of buying it at day 1 but a Monolith Soft game would help a lot.

PS4-Again not much chance of buying it at day 1.I bought my PS3 in 2008 and was a bit disappointed by the lack of games that appealed to my tastes. This time i won't be hyped by announcements,i'll wait for the actual games to be released, see how they turn out and then decide.
Still there are some games/franchises that could me make me buy it at day 1 if they were to become launch titles:a Team Ico game,Demon's Souls 2 (co-developed by FROM and SCEJ),Valkyria Chronicles 4,FFVII remake,Onimusha 5,new Siren game and HD ports of PS1 games.

Besides sequels of already established series,i would also like to see some new IP's which wouldn't be afraid to take risks in their design (just like Demon's/Dark Souls did in this generation.)

Wii U: DQ10
PS4: Something Naughty Dog or Strong First Party stuff
X720: Halo #

So I will buy all three, but I really need to think about supporting only one for multiplatform stuff.

Wii U - StarTropics, Wrecking Crew, Mach Rider, Baten Kaitos 3, Smash, a Good Feel-developed Starfy game

Playstation 4 - Suikoden 6, Wild Arms 6, Dark Cloud 3, FF7 remake

XBox 720 - Lost Odyssey 2

Dreamcast 2 - Phantasy Star 5 (offline), Skies of Arcadia 2, Shenmue 3, Panzer Dragoon Saga 2, Streets of Rage 4, new Alex Kidd, new Sinobi

How come?

I'm just not interested in any established xbox franchises. Only kind of exception is Forza but even then it wouldn't be enough to make me buy the new console especially if they continue the pay just to play multiplayer bullshit.

When do companies want to lose money anyways?

Wii U - Proper pokémon rpg, not the shit we got on gamecube, Zelda

Playstation 4 - Uncharted, proper Crash Bandicoot (or proper crash team racing lol)

XBox 720 - Lost Odyssey 2, Gears of War 4

WiiU- Some form of Mario or Zelda

I'm probably going ot buy the PS4 and 720 day 1 whether they have games or not (unless they're way overpriced).

Anything that is fun to play and makes me go 'wow, this definitely wasn't possible until today'. Don't care whether it is new or old IP - a new Halo or Uncharted or whatever isn't going to make me fork out for a new console if it is just the same running at a higher resolution with more polygons.

I feel pretty much the same way, except I'd prefer new franchises. I'll probably end up getting them all at or near launch, but if all we're getting in the beginning is what first party triple A titles represents at the moment, but with a new lick of paint, I really oughta wait. Here's hoping we don't see another Uncharted, Halo, Zelda or other overhyped/worn out game for the first five years of the next generation. Maybe by then one can actually start getting excited again for when the next installment finally arrives.

Unfourtunately that won't be the case, but luckily I expect smaller teams on a tighter budget will still able to make games that makes the machines worthwhile, just like Sound Shapes is making the Vita desirable.

I think my favorite console and the one I'd be most inclined to buy at launch, will be the one that makes it easiest for developers to produce and distribute games. I wanna see something like the App store on a machine that's easy to develop for and where the store itself is in the spotlight, so it becomes natural for people to check it out on a weekly basis. Xbox Live indie games was a great idea with half-hearted execution.

Someone takes that idea to the next level and I'll not just buy the console. I'll be hyped.

Resident Evil 2/3 given the "ReMake" treatment (without on-rails 'Chronicles' or RE4/5 style controls). I've resigned myself to the fact that this is pretty much never happening, and that Chronicles was RE2/3's "ReMake" Retelling. :(

I'd also support a Dino Crisis reboot with my money, as long as it was more DC2 rather than like DC1, DC3, Dino Stalker, Turok etc.

Maybe not "Day 1", but I'd certainly covet whichever console had them, and save up my money as fast as I could. Honestly the current-gen consoles offer enough features, can't imagine what the next gen could offer me to be honest as i'm not a motion controls/high graphics lover, so it'd have to be something special game-wise to make me pony up the money.

PS4 - Uncharted, Metal gear Solid 5

Wii U - Mario or Zelda

Both Nintendo and Sony must show off more than just launch games however. I must see around a full years lineup or I won't buy.

Xbox - I won't ever get an Xbox at launch. Banjo 3, Kameo, or something along those lines would be tempting. But the Xbox 360 didn't have enough for me, so I need to see how the next one plays out.

Whichever one announces a next-gen non-handheld Monster Hunter game. Also, whoever manages to nail a console MMOFPS.

Oh and someone who works on True Fantasy Live Online. :D

Fallout: New California

Saints Row the Forth: Now we have Red Faction's destruction tech.
A proper platformer, like we used to have in the N64 days, or a new Elder Scrolls game.
How come?
The 360 is a desolate wasteland of exclusive titles. Do you want a boilerplate third/first person shooter or a racing sim?

Quite honestly it doesn't even matter anymore for me, I'm just going to wait in PC Land for a year or two until I see what console is going to be the front runner.

A Naughty Dog game of some kind. A Jak game would be what I'd want the most, but them having a game at launch would make me go for a PS4. Not that I think it will happen, but it would make me get one right away.

A new Ratchet & Clank, Mirror's Edge, Prince of Persia or Beyond Good & Evil are some others that would probably get me to get a system at launch. I think I'd actually feel comfortable waiting for Nintendo or Microsoft system generally, just because I have waited in the past.
