Launch titles that would make you purchase the WiiU/PS4/720 Day One.

I would pay any amount for any system that had Shenmue 3 or the next Panzer Dragoon at launch =p

In a few places, this thread has been a dive into a really unattractive depth of console/brand enthusiasm. The idea of buying a console because of devotion to the honour of its first-party branding or non-applied specifications, regardless of games, actually sickens me. As does to the idea of being enthusiastic for a dream remake on hardware X, but condemning it to be ignored with contempt if it appears on hardware Y. Its like the scribblings of crusaders of some sort.

Eurgh, I wish the thread had not been bumped, all sad now.

Yeah it's pretty disgusting how people are already forming alliances to hardware that doesn't exist yet. On the bright side, these types of threads are a good way to see how biased some people are. =p

Nintendo is probably the only one of the big three that could hook me in with launch titles. Give me 3D Mario (especially in the same vein as SM64) and I'll be there. I'd go nuts for a new AAA mascot game at launch. If Retro puts out a new IP at launch I'll be down. I want to get the Wii U early so that I have a chance to enjoy it before the other consoles come out and steamroll it graphically.

Sony and Microsoft don't really have IPs that I need to purchase hardware day one for. I really like Gears, Uncharted and Halo, but I'd rather wait a year or so on the new Xbox and Playstation to see where third parties land. I'll wait to see if Microsoft gives a shit about making or securing exclusive core games again (they seem to get super hungry at the beginning of gens). And Sony's exclusive besides Uncharted and Ratchet rarely interest me, so they'll have to create something new to hook me in. I'll probably jump in to the Xbox 3 when the equivalent of the premium Elite SKU comes out and I'll buy the PS4 slim way down the line.

PS4 - A new WRC game made by Evo, or anything Naughty Dog have touched.
Wii U - Donkey Kong or Mario.
Xbox - None of their current exclusives interest me so it'd have to be a new IP.

Next Box - Assuming backwards compatibility and continuing LIVE functionality (both of which I fully expect): I'll get a 360 Day One for the Gears/Halo/Fable franchises, even if they aren't available immediately at Launch.

Wii U - On the fence here, but a combination of Metroid Prime (for me) and a new Mario game (for boy first and me second) would push me to buying Day One.

PS4 - Unlikely to buy Day One. A combination of a reasonable price AND Uncharted 4 AND a real Valkyria Chronicles sequel could change my opinion on that. Otherwise I'd just wait for the first price drop.

Let me help you with other quotes.

Wii U: Startropics U

nothing for the others

Wii U
Anything

PS4
Nothing

KiNextBox
Nothing

but yeah, as if I'm not buying the U day one either way

PlayStation - Uncharted? (It's working for Vita).
Xbox - Gears Of War
Wii U - Mario

I'd pay $1000 for the Wii U to play Mario.

I am buying a Wii U at launch and I fully expect there be to something special to play (i.e. a new Mario, Diablo 3, and perhaps Skyrim GOTY with a new interface.)

As for the new Sony or Microsoft system, they have to offer me more than better looking versions of current franchises. While Nintendo seems to capture the magic with their new consoles, the other two seem to always rely on graphics as their selling point. Perhaps I am just tired of the same games, but I want to play games in a fresh and exciting way.

It´s funny how you don´t represent all kind of fans, instead you concentrate on one fandom.

Wii U - Pikmin 3, proper Mario or Zelda, Wave Race, F-Zero

720/PS4 - racing games

but in all cases, whether or not I jump in at launch has mostly to do with console price

The original point was not that there are games that people really want (which is the point of this thread), but that they would buy the system no matter what, irrespective of software. Really wanting a Mario game isn't the same thing.

It's funny that you think there's an equivalency though.

Honestly, I feel like there a almost no games that would make me want a console at launch. With all of the sequels, etc. that get thrown around, and my backlog of 80 games on Steam (half of which I haven't touched once) along with my PSN+ backlog (have barely touched any), and my Android/emulator backlog... I am in no hurry to add another system into my life.

That said, the game required to get me to buy a system would have to be spectacular, something I really want and can't get elsewhere.

Wii U
- A full fledged Pokemon with 3D towns and online battling. No need for me to invest in a 3DS/DS to fully enjoy it.

Playstation 4 - A new Legacy of Kain game.

XBox 720 - A new Legacy of Kain game. (And if it came out on both, I would go for the console that released first. Assuming no PC release.)

WiiU = nothing that i can think of now
720 = new splinter cell or MGS
PS4= Motorstorm, Uncharted, Infamous God of War or MGS

Nothing

Even if launch had 20 games I wanted I still wouldn't buy at launch. Always best to buy a year or 2 later, for price drops (for games and the console), and hardware reliability. Besides I still have tons of games to still play from the current gen.

WiiU - A new Metroid game from Retro

Xbox 720 - a next gen Batman game from Rocksteady. And possibly a gussied up version of Halo 4.

PS4 - Nothing comes to mind. May skip Sony next generation altogether.

720 I will buy day 1, new hardware is enough for me.

PS4, not sure at the moment. Probably will buy also just because its new hardware but will not buy if the price is again $599.

WiiU, I don't like motion controls so I'm not going to buy this unless there is something that interest me like crazy.

I'm pretty much sold on Nintendo and Sony consoles as I love their first party studios, as long as the console isn't overpriced like the PS3 at launch, I'm in. The XBox is nice, but for my third party needs, I prefer my PC. I mostly play exclusive games on consoles. The only Microsoft IP I'm interested in are the old Rare IP, but now they're too busy making casual games to make a new Banjo or Perfect Dark :(

Wii U: Non-2D Mario, Paper Mario, Waverace, Starfox, Zelda, 2D Metroid, Final Fantasy Tactics, Pokemon RPG, Mother 4, Smash Bros

PlayStation 4: Anything Naughty Dog, Valkyria Chronicles, Last Guardian (if pushed back), Heavy Rain spiritual successor, Sly Cooper, Ratchet & Clank, Metal Gear Solid 5, MotorStorm Apocalypse 2, Wipeout.

I actually think the best launch lineup for PS4 would be a small selection of titles backed up by a big PSN launch lineup - get stuff from Q-Games, Thatgamecompany, DoubleSix, Hello Games, etc plus new versions of things like Echochrome, The Last Guy, Trash Panic

Would be glorious and would really cement PSN into the core of the experience.

Xbox 720: Can't really think of much here - I love my 360, but there's no individual games or developers I can think of that would pull me back in with just one title - I guess if new Halo or Forza looked epic I'd probably dive in.

Wii U and PS4 will be a tough sell for me. I can't think of a single title that would make me jump for them.

While the PS3 I enjoyed GOW3 and a couple of other titles it probably accounted for 5% of my gaming time this generation. The Wii accounted for even less and just had nothing that I enjoyed. Edit - I did get a ton of use out of the Blu Ray player on the PS3.

The next Xbox I will pick up day one regardless of launch games.

Wii U : Smash Bros 4 or Zelda U. Or a Monolith Soft RPG (lol). Or an Intelligent systems game maybe.

PS4: Final Fantasy XV (VS XIII?) Maybe a SuckerPunch title.

NextBox: Can't think of anything. The Last Remnant 2 I guess.

It's super unlikely, but I just wanna say it:

Shadowrun 2 for the new Xbox.

I'll most likely be getting the new Xbox day one no matter what though :P

Try actually reading the quotes he picked out. Most of them say that they're buying a Wii U regardless of what comes out. One guy even goes as far as saying he'll buy a Wii U for "anything". Lol. And most of the quotes also say that "nothing" would get them to buy a PS4 or 720. So even if those consoles launched with the games of their dreams, they still wouldn't buy it because of the brand.

Phoenician_Viking is right. It is stupid to try and just pick on the fanboys of the HD twins and ignore the Nintendo fanboys that are doing the same thing.
