Lawsuit filed against EA for 'scripting outcomes' in Fifa

I don't play sports games online due to people taking it way too seriously. I prefer to play the season/general manager mode. I don't play FIFA, but I do play NHL a lot. I have noticed in my games, while going through the season, it seems like my guys are off and the other team is doing really good. It never really bothered me, because in real NHL you have off days, and it gives me a little bit more challenge for that game.

I have never gotten into the Ultimate Team modes in these games and never understood why people would want to spend money to open up digital cards for players, especially when then following year's game you would have to start over. I can see some people enjoying the grind in winning the coins to open up new packs though, and I think that is where the issue is. You can play these Ultimate Team modes against CPU players rather than real people, and if you are grinding that way to gain in game currency rather than playing against people online, I can see why having this dynamic AI would be off putting and feel like it is pushing you to buy the packs rather than grind for them. I do wonder though if in these CPU games if the AI is just using the same algorithm as what is used in the other single player game modes which is what I am experiencing when my team has an "off" day. If so, then it is not really a system in place to make you purchase more, but their AI system to make the games more competitive and "fun". However, the lines begin to blur once there is a push to buy virtual currencies with real money. It could very well feel like they are cheating you so you will buy in and we would think that due to the "buy now" area being front and center in these games. It does not mean EA is cheating here though. It really could just be their AI algorithm that they have had for a long time, being used throughout their game modes. We just think they are trying to cheat us now, due to the possibility of us buying extras in the game.

Then again, EA could be scumbags and indeed are trying to force people into buying more.

Also, I really hope the dynamic AI is only being applied in single player games against the CPU and not in online games, because that defeats the reason why so many people want to play online against others: to be the best.

I am 75/25 on this, 75% leaning on this is just the same baked in AI as the other modes and it just feels like cheating due to the option to buy is there and 25% leaning to EA trying to force your hand.

Anybody who plays fifa regularly knows it has some form of scripting/dynamic difficulty. The amount of bs in the game is unreal... Yeah idiots like myself buy the game every year. Yes I know I am part of the problem bla bla.

Patents exist that sony is going to sell me MT when I die to much in notdarksouls. Should I sue for that patent existing?

There is no evidence of this tech being used in multiplayer. Many games use DDA in singleplayer, and EA has openly said as much

You should definitely tell them to fuck off and not buy any soulslike game that tries to sell you "gitgud" points.

Meanwhile, Ubisoft already sells "time savers" for RPG games.

Certain mechanics are conducive to compulsive behaviours and are strictly regulated in slot machines, casinos, gambling websites in non shithole countries, things like payout ratios (obv), heartstoppers or near misses to jackpots and big prizes, favouring certain outcomes when a players bankroll is low or high or whatever, rate of play, amount you can stake at a time etc etc etc. In fake or play casino games (esp on mobile) these are not regulated like gambling games and can include some hardcore tricks along these lines so you trade up to the money games. Certainly loot boxes rely on variable reward rate reinforcement which is what awakens the monster of gambling addiction in many people, and obviously loot boxes use similar sensory stimuli to slots when you open them. Using similar mechanics in a sports game to increase spending by gamers which for FIFA includes children is a hefty accusation, I've no idea if it's true or not but if so then that's a sharp intake of breath from me.

Also screwing with a sports game for whatever reason, so what happens on the pitch isn't determined by the two players actions, this just repulses me surely you've just ruined your sports game?

By your logic, Diablo 3 would be illegal and pretty much any game that uses RNG.

Not even remotely what I said.

- Diablo 3 doesn't sell (advertise) itself or its subject matter as solely skill-based.
- Even if it did its in no way the same principle.

For that to apply D3 would need to actively/become impossible to win during play unless you buy x-item with real money (which in the case of EA and player packs isn't even the thing that helps you, but instead lowers an independent scripted value that forces you to lose. Again deceiving you, the customer.)

Edit: And just saying here, that's if it's true. It needs to be proven after all.

If you need to buy RNG packs to "win" then how is that solely skill based? How is that any different from Diablo 3?

For the longest time I was convinced that Smash Ultimate would give me a better connection after buying something from the eShop...
