I let my wife know since I was a gamer I was lusting for violence. Her response: good to hear.

Anyone got an email address for Leland?

As much as I hate this witch hunting shite, there is one thing I do actually agree with some of these people on.

I do believe, that violent / graphic media (note, not just games) does desensitize people (note, not children, everyone) to that imagery.

I say this based on my own observations and others, who for example didn't play violent games or watch violent movies as a kid.

I find those that did are far, far more open to the most graphic violence, where as those that did not can't stomach it aswell.

It's the one truth they use to propogate their agenda based lies.

There have been plenty of people in threads like these point out that they can't handle real life graphic violence. There's a world of difference between a violent game, a violent movie and real life violence. I can watch torture porn without flinching and play the most violent games out there without being bothered, but I can't real life graphic violence. I can't handle seeing things like broken bones, deep cuts etc. It just makes me feel very uneasy.

Absolutely. But I find that those who avoided or simply did not engage with violent or graphic meddia as children, have more difficulty disconnecting between 'pretend' movie or game violence/graphic content, and real actual violence and graphic content.

In the microseconds it occurs, some people do not make the distinction. It's easy to say afterwards that it isn't real. But the point of such things is to make them look as real as possible, leading to people reacting secondly to the fact that it's fake, rather than first if that makes sense.

When I see something that is graphic and looks real. My first thought is 'damn, they made that look so real'

Not everyone is like that, others would react 'OMG, that's sick!' then break it down into 'but it's not real'

I have noticed this is directly related to how much of this content people watched or played as children.

I guess it's anecdotal though, but it's what I believe.

Yee operated out of san francisco. Young people voted (and vote a lot) for him in this city, or at least circled democrat for senate when they voted for obama.

I am a young person so this doesn't apply to all but sadly, a lot of young people are dumb shits and circle democrat automatically without even seeing what the person represents. Republican and democrat are just arbitrary terms these days, nothing beats old fashioned research.

I love violence in entertainment. But I could never be a doctor, medic or anyone in the medical profession, because I can't stomach real life violence and gore. I get sickly/queezy

At least to me, violence in media is stylized and not realistic at all to what it really looks like. I was raised on violent media from as young as 8 years old. 17 years later it hasn't softened me to it.

I do sometimes wish that the most popular, best-selling, western-developed games didn't always have to utilize killing other humans as an important gameplay mechanic. Call of Duty, Assasin's Creed, Red Dead, Grand Theft Auto, Uncharted ( to an absurd degree), etc.

Yeah it was really about socialism.

I'm merely saying that to characterize ZDT as being a bombastic patriotic film is a complete and total misreading of the film.

In fact, I have to question whether anyone who says that about ZDT actually watched the film in the first place.

There's always Angry Birds, other mobile phenoms, Minecraft, Fifa, Madden, etc...

I should probably have said that I'm only reffering to being desensitized within media, not neccesarily real life violence.

When I say more open to graphic violence, again, I mean within media, not IRL.

Agree with you there. But what it's really about, and what its perceived as, isn't always the same thing.

I could see some politicians viewing the film as patriotic (some without seeing it) whereas a game (without playing it) is clearly self serving and not credible.

Is it a bad thing to be desensitized to media violence?

That depends on alot of things, but I would say no, in general.

I wasn't really suggesting that it is a bad thing, simply something that does ring true, and is an argument used by these very people.

The best lies have an element of truth, and all that.

Thanks for replying.

And I missed the point of your original post. My apologies.

Blaming games is rapidly becoming a fossil.

Mainly because gamers that started with the NES are starting to become credible adults in their 30s/40s.

Soon there will be 50/60 year old gamers who go into politics and they will be the final nail in this nonsense's coffin.
