Let's focus group the most generic game ever

"You know gaf, we really are the most generic"

Player character
Moderately unattractive woman

Setting
Open world

Story
You have amnesia. The big enemy is some evil white dude in a suit running an evil corporation.

Your village is destroyed at the start as you are away during the tutorial quest gathering mushrooms or some shit. Alternatively you cause the death of your father/mother by doing something they told you not to.

Then it turns out the evil dude came from your village all along.

Mechanics
Crafting system
Buddy/companion system
Upgradeable home base which you use to send companions off to do missions
Towers to climb
Pets
Detective witcher vision
RPG-lite mechanics and you level up
Drug and hallucination sections all the time
Lots of slow walking with a companion from mission to mission
You start at 50% power then the evil guy takes all your shit at the beginning and you have to re-gather your upgrades
Climbing

Map
Filled with icons and collectables including flags, bugs, pictures to take

Some sort of legendary enemies/waypoints to pick off

Sidequests
Escort missions
Delivery missions

Companions must move slower than running, but faster than walking

Extras
Some sort of bullshit side game which is a card game or board game and played in bars or taverns in the world

Enemies
Mexican cartel gang
Ice gang
Fire gang
Triads
Nature people
High tech guys
Russians

Any more ideas? We'll pitch the game once we all make megabucks off GME

Mechanics
Press square three times to break a door with an axe. Behind the door is a treasure chest with you have to open by tapping square or in some cases have to pick the lock.

When you open the treasure chest you'll get an artifact which you can look and roll meanwhile your character speaks something stupid like:

"Wonder what this is. A religious artifact?" While looking a shoe which has a hole in it. And if you're lucky you can find a hidden detail in the shoe like for an example a gum sticked in the bottom:
"This must be a part of the ritual, maybe something they offered to the gods?"

Then you'll get 15XP, a level up and a new skill which let you aim down the sights.

I would say Minecraft. When I got my Windows 10 Pro I had constant suggestions to play it that nearly forced me to uninstall Windows 10 and go back to 7. Then uninstalled Xbox Live and all gaming-related apps from my PC now it's clean.

Basic Stealth system. Press a button for your character to crouch and basically turn invisible when walking through tall grass.

Sidequests
Enemy bases to take down. The world is divided into various regions and once you've taken down every enemy base in a region you "liberate" it.

Don’t forget the sections where movement is altered in scenes that should’ve skippable cutscenes but instead you get to hold forward while something you can’t win or lose at plays out, and some time after you’ve given up on humanity as a species it gives control back. Include promoting a button press to trigger an event, because by making it part of gameplay they ironically made it the antithesis of engaging and need to remind you that you’re supposed to be having fun.

Include at least one at the start during the village fire. You can do more, be sure to do a few of them with short bits of gameplay in between to really push the limits of what is cinematic gameplay, then at least one more during the final boss with that “Press X to win” moment handed to you on a plate so that it really kills the energy of the moment when it stops to wait for the input that isn’t necessary.

If you want to see this sort of thing in action, look no further than MGS5 and RE3R.

The great plot twist: Your childhood friend joins you in the beginning to help you escape from the village, it is then later revealed that he has joined the villain, holding a speech that sounds utterly brainwashed and intolerant how he always hated weakness because his mother died when he was young or something.

Mechanics: "realistic" hunger and thirst which means you have to eat and drink every 2 minutes game time.

Don't forget that you only grab one useless looking item out of a treasure chest overflowing with cool and expensive looking shit.

*digs through pile of gold, diamonds, weapons and other shiny stuff*

*pulls out cracked wooden mask*

"An ancient Idran mask, worn by temple dancers. This will increase my skill with the bow."

50 XP gained in Marksmanship

Make sure it saves before a 5 minute unskippable cut scene followed by a trial and error boss fight which ends with.... surprise bitches! Extra health and a new shield!

Make the protagonist super awesome but at the end of the prologue, bam! All your abilities are gone and you have the fun of earning them back. One. By. One.

Don't forget to add some shitty card/dice based mini game.

This is nonsense, Minecraft it's one of the most unique modern games, so much so that spawned a whole new genre with countless "copy cats" that are now their own thing, much like Doom or Dragon Quest or Demon's Souls did at some point.

You missed monetized cosmetics and then after all the reviews are out and the game is sitting at the nice pay bonus meta critic score of 85 you add pay to cheat dlc like xp boosters a thing you swore would never be in the game.

That's metro exodus... They constantly take your camera, controls and when you play everyone is always taking.. at the same time

Would rather go outside an play a real football game instead if that was considered gaming.

what is your point? are you trying to be witty?

My point is sharing what I think is the most generic game to me. And here you are you wanna force me to think that it's a masterpiece. Just move on and keep playing it if it's that good to you.

Generic it's hardly an abstract adjective only subject to personal taste. Minecraft wasn't generic but genre defining, or are you trying to argue that there were dozens of games like Minecraft before it? by definition, it's the complete opposite of generic.

Western RPGs to a T.

- Start out as level 1 loser with a dagger and rags
- Pick your class. Slow strong fighter who sucks at magic, weak crafty magic user who sucks at melee, or the jack of all trades ranger
- Fire and ice areas
- The first enemies you meat are rats or goblins
- Final boss is either a giant dragon or super tall demon dude
