Wow, I didn't even know DS4Windows was still around. I haven't had to install it in like 5+ years because 99% of games just support them or Steam Input out the box these days. Don't think I've ever seen a game that just didn't detect the controllers with Steam Input lol
Nothing on Gamepass works without using it on my DualSense,on Steam is fine though

If you're just plugging them in without Steam Input then yes they probably won't work on Game Pass games. But most GP games can detect them through Steam Input, which is why I haven't needed to use DS4Windows in 5+ years.

This is the first time (for me) where a game just doesn't detect Sony AND Nintendo controllers, with or without Steam Input. In any case, I appreciate you letting me know that DS4W is still being updated.

I've just had a quick go on this up to the first real boss, looks nice and polished.

I'm genuinely surprised how similar it is to From's games.

It seems pretty good though, will play more.

I don't understand the combat...
You move so slowly when locked on and your dodge is 1-step.
How am I supposed to get in close to the guy to hit him and then dodge if I cant dodge after starting an attack.
And parrying sucks ass. It's VERY late and even if you perfect parry, it doesnt stop or stagger them. i dont get it.
Breeze until parade master but he seems impossible...
tomorrow...

Watched some gameplay and it's kinda nuts how they nailed the animations for the mobs and bosses in their first big game.

Yeah it feels like I'm playing a reskin of Bloodborne.The performance of this game should embarrass all the top devs.I'm playing at 4k60 as that's all my tv does,but I've seen people playing at 120fps+ at 4k DLSS quality on a 3080
yeah it runs 120 fps maxed out 4k, dlss quality on a 3080.
But what's the surprise? The game looks like ass

I think the animations have some personality because they are puppets and they move accordingly, i really like the way they look and move.

I have a thing for puppet enemies since the mobs in dmc1

Taking back what I said about game being easy mode over the demo. Factory was dope and boss keeps wiping the floor with me so much don’t even see the point of getting a summon atm. Now thats more like it

Man almost got filtered by the Parade Master took a lot of tries to get past that second stage. Hopefully that first boss is an anomaly, it was really hard to get an attack window.

Just spent an hour with it and I take back any reservations I had because so far so good. Really does feel like an extension of Bloodborne due to the late Victorian setting.

So did they end up improving the dodge mechanic like they said they would after seeing the demo feedback? Really interested to know how it is now.
I didn't realize they did that. However, I recall the dodge being sluggish and off in the demo, but I just played through the demo area in the full game, and I thought it felt much better.

Is overleveling a thing for bosses? I find it interesting when someone makes the claim that you over leveled for a boss. I was raising my motility or base strength and I noticed it significantly. I just wonder if weapon scaling is something to consider

Some photo goodness (PS5 Performance mode) 📸 Anyone saying the game isn't pretty can be safely ignored because they have brain damage:

So just a quick tip that I read under a Youtube video comment. When it comes to Perfect Blocking, do not tap the block button (sekiro's way of blocking), instead hold it and do not let go till the attack finishes. I think the whole system is not explained properly / something is lost in translation between Korean and English.
I hope this is what I was doing wrong, because I'm pretty sure I hit guard immediately before/on impact yet I wasn't getting the perfect parries I thought I should.

Chapter 4 final boss was peak game so far. Felt like some Ludwig the holy blade shit kind of fight . Really well done.

Game layers on so many interesting facets. Just got to spend my boss souls on banger weapons and amulets.

This developer gets it.

So what's a good controller setting? I didn't really like the default and changed it to more "traditional" hack and slash settings. I put block/parry on LT though as these kind of games wear the hell out of the LB buttons....lol

My config:
X= nml attack
Y = Special/Charge attack
B = Dodge
A = Jump
LB = Legion Arm
LT = Guard
RB = Belt item
RT = Fable Art
L stick = Interact
R stick = Lock on

Absolutely. It is a fantastic action game with the best production values in years.

Gameplay in this game is very competent and you are greatly overexaggerating. Thymesia went with your approach, but despite quality gameplay everything else came up short and it is hard to go back to. The world of this game is so beautiful and captivating that many are sure to keep coming back. That to me is preferable.

Best production values for what exactly? A Souls style game or ANY game?? Surely not the latter..

What are the positives of playing on a CRT?
For new games, perfect motion resolution (clarity), no input lag and true blacks. (My crappy off-screen phone pics don't do it justice by a long shot)
See:

For older games, no upscaling at all to run pixel perfect lower resolutions. All low resolutions look great because the electron gun can just shoot out the exact "pixels" needed for the image onto the phosphors, whereas LCDs and OLEDs have to cram and stretch low res images to fill their fixed pixel panels.

Turned off v sync on Steam Deck and it made a noticeable difference. I didn’t mind 30 fps with Bloodborne and so it runs great at 30 fps. No complaints there. The game loads all the shaders before the game boots to menu, as in its own menu. I’ve never seen a dedicated menu for shaders. So far it’s ran pretty good on Steam Deck.

The graphics are better than Elden Ring. Performs way better too.
Absolutely not better lol. Flat shading and less geometry than bloodborne.
At least the begging of a game looks like that.

I mean even was watching dr disrespect for few minutes yesterday and he was looking for more options to crank it up and it was already at max. He said it looks bad and I don’t think it looks that’s bad but it certainly looks closer to ds2 than bloodborne :p

Died at first boss 10 times before giving up for the night. I do not get the parry to click. Hopefully I just need to rev up my “souls” skills a bit.

Nah. The animations suck and your speed sucks. He is doing wild swings out of nowhere and you have no speed or dodge length to dodge that… and parry leaves you vulnerable to next attack.

I am sure we will get through this next time but it doesn’t feel right.

PlayStation would do well to move in on this dev while they still can.

Careful. There’s guys in this thread saying the game looks like dark souls 2 visually.

The amount of brain damage you’d have to be subject to to think this game looks bad is absolutely astronomical.

No, it doesn't look like that weirdo broken 30fps locked randomly walking into bosses game

the one that looks like it was made on Windows 98 PC in 2011

I still don't know how to play this game. I like the art and want to continue but it took me one hour just to beat the first mini boss and leave the train station. I was just getting frustrated and I almost dropped it. Any tips for the beginners?

You have to have brain damage to think it looks great.
Looks like indie ue game. Flat. Nothing more.
It looks good. Just nothing special. Static and flat.

Don’t confuse graphics with art. The game got nothing even on bloodborne. 2015 game. Dark souls 2 is better and looks better lol

Some tips/tricks for those who are just starting out (some of this should be obvious):

- unlocking 3rd amulet slot should be a priority

- you can never go wrong upgrading healing potions

- 59% is the threshold to maintain light weight/movement so Capacity stat becomes increasingly important even if you're running a "light" build. Why? The weight of defensive accessories becomes increasingly heavy. Combine that with Arms and weapon weight and you can easily go over.

- moreso than Souls, if you're running a Dex build (Technique) then investing any points in Strength (Motivity) is useless since there isn't any armor stat requirements to worry about.

- use the phantom NPC on boss fights if you're having trouble. It will do some decent DMG but more importantly, serve as a distraction allowing you to let loose from behind a boss/buy time to heal etc.

- DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THROWABLES! These also have stat scaling and can make the difference between victory and defeat. I've had a couple of boss battles where I'd used up all my healing potions, boss was down to 15-20% health and I finished it off with Throwables.

- tutorial says you CANNOT dodge attacks when the enemy glows red. This is confusing because the truth is you can (and more often than not should!) but just make sure you're not in the impact zone.

- enemy specific type amulets can make a tangible difference to DMG output, don't forget to switch them out depending on the area you're in/enemy type you're facing.

- because you can alter stat scaling through Cranks (brilliant idea!) you should absolutely experiment with a variety of weapons. However, you CANNOT change the stat scaling of Arms (after 20 hours at least, doubt this will change). Luckily the 2 Arms I favour most scale with Tech lol

- carefully consider what to use boss souls on, weapon or amulet. If you've already got a formidable weapon then I'd lean toward amulet even if that boss weapon scales with the build I'm running. Example: last night I beat a boss, could make a badass weapon that scales with Tech. I've already got a great boss Tech weapon, the amulet on the other hand increases ALL Arm tiers by +1 (so if the Arm had A scaling it now has S). That's going to help my build much more overall.

- charge attacks (R2) combined with Fable Arts (triangle) can quickly help put an enemy into a staggerable state. Obviously depends on the weapon/attack with heavier weapons building stagger window quicker.

- although you can equip 2 sets of weapons it's not worth doing so because of the increased weight. Of course, if you're happy having a heavier build and don't mind the movement/stamina penalty then go right ahead!

Hope that helps anyone having trouble with the game though honestly this is easier than any of the Souls games and should be more "accessible" to a wider audience.

R2 is very useful.

I’ve been using a greatsword and it’s worked so far. No need to overthink it.

Everything about this really excites me. I've gotten into tons of the more janky souls-likes, this one look a step above most of them.

Great idea to make it a horror spin on a classic fairly tale too.
