When the relic's long-dormant magics are awoken by the treachery of a malign magician, an entire kingdom falls into a cursed slumber, prompting a young soldier to embark on an unforgettable journey...

Game Features
– Simple, Accessible Controls
The control system has been streamlined to work perfectly with modern touch interfaces.
The position of the directional pad can be adjusted freely, enabling players to switch between one-handed and two-handed play with a tap of the screen.
The combat system has also been reworked, allowing for one-tap battles as well as more complex play.

– The Tension System
During battle, you can select 'Psyche Up' to give your next attack some extra oomph!
The more you psyche a character up, the higher their tension will rise, until they finally reach an insane state known as super-high tension!

– Skill Points
Skill points are earned when your characters level up, and can be assigned to various skills in order to learn new spells and abilities.
This system allows you to perfectly tailor your team to your liking.

– Monster Teams
Certain monsters found in the field can be scouted for your monster team – if you're tough enough to beat them, that is!
Once assembled, your crack squad can take part in the fiercely contested tournaments held at the monster arena, and can even come to your aid in battle!

– The Alchemy Pot
Combine existing items to create entirely new ones!
Even the most unassuming objects could be ingredients for the greatest items of all!
Seek out the recipes hidden all over the world, and see if you can cook up something truly special!

– The Casino
Fans of the series will be pleased to learn that the casino is back, and fully-equipped for fun!
This time around, there are three exciting activities to enjoy: bingo, slot machines and roulette!

Can't believe how fast phones got this strong.

Call me when it gets ported to an actual console.

Excuse me?

Is it still 20 whole seconds until you can enter your first command in a random battle?

20 seconds times let's say... a very conservative 1,000 random battles is 5.5 hours of your life sitting there wishing you had a mobile PS2 to play it on.

Maybe... you should try fixing that before releasing it, no?

I am not as pessimistic about turn based Full RPGs on mobile

The IOS preference it irritating but understandable i guess.

Otherwise they are the perfect type of platform that can easily get away with touch controls honestly

Of course they need to be designed with a degree of effort and consideration. Anyone play this yet?

Pretty sure they can't really fix that, the hardware is just not good enough it seems. People are better off playing on iPhone 5+ devices. Specially since they did actually improve the performance over the original version in Japan, so I guess they've already applied that for this. In the end I guess on their end it came down to either half-assedly supporting those devices or not supporting them at all.

I see I'll be booting up my PS2 this weekend.

EDIT: To be fair, turn-based RPGs aren't that bad on phones, but still...I can't really imagine enjoying this as much without the full TV.

If this is the same iOS port with the bad framerate and loading times, I can see why people are pissed.

I'd rather have this on PSN as a classic than play it on iOS. I don't even have an apple product. Plus this isn't the way I want to play a 100+ hour rpg. I need a controller and a big screen.

This game screams for the HD treatment anyway.

Please understand.

Would love to have this on Vita and not my stupid iPad.

Capcom recently put out MHPortable 2nd G out on IOS and its apparently BETTER than its console counterpart in almost every respect (improved visuals, online play, tons of options and support)

Thats the level of effort that companies need to put in if they TRULY believe in Mobile as a platform

Half assing it is insulting.

At first I read "Dragon Quest VII localized", then realized my error by reading "iOs", then had the taste of salt in my mouth.

I'm curious as to how this runs and how well it controls, so I'm getting it for those reasons. KotOR, while lagging behind other versions, was still decent on iOS with touch controls. Hopefully the same applies here.

I actually find the opposite more true for myself.

I can consume JRPGs in bite size chucks while commuting, waiting on lines, etc. Plus these games don't require much dexterity. This isn't DMC for example, so touch is fine.

I just can't take the price.

I remember buying DQ8 when it launched on PS2, still have it, will probably just go back and play that copy. Alright Gov's?

$20?!

LOLOLOL
This is what I'm saying. I really struggle to understand Square-Enix's stance on the pricing of their mobile offerings. They're one of the few publishers on the App Store/Google Play who price their games that high. Even the big players (as much as I hate to give them the credit) like Zynga and GameLoft rarely price their games above $9.99. Even Epic, who are a console publishing stalwart, priced their Infinity Blade games at $10 or less.

I'd love to hear why Square think they're exempt from the same standards everyone else has more or less established. The fact this price is attached to a game that is a port of a now-bargain priced game on a retired console makes it worse.

I've been wanting to play this game forever. Just waiting on a decent port/remaster.

I refuse to play this game on a phone/tablet though.

Yay it's Dragon Quest VIII!!!

Oh. Ok, that's ok. Cool! Haha! Dragon Quest VIII on the go!

SquareEnix said:
it will cost $20.

Oh wow. Um... Well ya know, Dragon Quest VIII is pretty great. I bet putting such a sprawling game on the phone and tablet took some real effort. And it's SquareEnix, so you know, maybe it's worth the inflated price.

This is just.... Unbelievable.
Count me out.

I bought a few expensive ios games through the years. Half of them are unplayable now because the companies won't update them (these are $20 apps we are talking about). Ultimately I finished none of them.
I gave it a good try but gaming on my phone/tablet is one of the worst experiences and doesn't warrant anything more than a $5 per game price tag. Period.

Glad some others will be able to play the game for the first time, as the original game was really something special.
Maybe somehow some of that comes through for the new players.

Let's try to have the level of discourse higher than "3DS/Vita please" and "$20 LOLOLOLOL"

Thanks!

I dont mind those prices as long as the game quality reflects that of what we see on its console counterpart (or better)

But we almost ALWAYS see LESS effort and lower quality across the board.

SE has been really good at providing me with games I want to play during my commute to and from work every day. Never played this game back on ps2 so that makes this release better for me.

Might want to edit the OP with Bolding since people seem to be missing the point:

It's older hardware, guys. It's not that unexpected.

I played the Japanese version on iPad and on-screen d-pad makes this game unplayable. Controller support must be mandatory now.

And yes, everybody's right, 3DS version pls, SE.
