If you think Faraday being named after himself is bizarre - or really, if you have trouble wrapping your head around anything related to time travel in Lost - read (or just read about) All You Zombies by Robert Heinlein. It will make you say, "What."

I think it's pretty appropriate. Faraday's whole life is one giant time loop.

If there's any character with a more tragic life story than Locke's, it's Faraday.

But it isn't a loop if the island can be destroyed. What's Faraday doing in the X timeline now? What happened to Ms Hawking and Widmore? Are they even alive? Is Richard still alive? If Faraday exists in the X timeline, then the bomb did NOT sink the island, otherwise it would have killed everyone including unborn Faraday. :p

Oh yeah, been meaning to ask this for a while. Is the whole "it only ends once/anything else is progress" convo meant to be shrouded in mystery, or is it just me who cannot figure what the hell that's supposed to mean?

Boone also. Boone was a hero, and he had a quite a tragic story and death.

It's pretty much referring to what Lost is all about. Definitely meant to be shrouded in mystery. We probably won't know exactly what it means until the final episode.

Imagine Calton in the editing room. Damon comes in with a cup of coffee.

Damon: Morning.
Calton: Morning. I take it you're here because of the spoilers.
Damon: I am. How do you think it leaked?
Calton: Why don't you ask them yourself?
Damon: I don't have to ask, you did it. You leaked the spoilers. You're trying to prove me wrong aren't you?
Calton: You are wrong.
Damon: Am I? They speculate, they hype, they troll, they complain. Always ends the same.
Calton: It only ends once. Anything before that, is just progress.
Damon: Do you have any idea how badly I want to fire you?
Calton: Yes.
Damon: One of these days, sooner or later, I'm going to find a loophole my friend.
Calton: When you do, I'll be right here.
Damon: Always nice talking to you Calton.
Calton: Nice talking to you too.

And on the sixth day the LORD David Bowie created man and woman in His image. And he saw that it was good. On the seventh day the LORD created videogames so that He might take the bloody day off for once.

The specifics of "the end" that Jacob refers to are still a mystery, but it seems Jacob is basically telling MiB that he's not looking at the big picture regarding humanity's social evolution.

Every instance where humans come to the Island, and fail to overcome their wiked and barbaric nature, MiB sees it as a series of hopeless isolated incidents that always end the same way.

However, Jacob sees it all as a continuous process of trial and error. Each generation essentially builds on the progress of those that came before them. Basically, it ain't over till it's over.

Until the show ends and everything is revealed, everytime I get stoned I imagine that Lost is about the console wars. Jacob wearing white = xbox360, MIB wearing black = PS3. Look how angry MIB is and how relaxed Jacob is during their first scene together. Jacob has had a year long head start and is comfy. MIB comes out the gate tired, costing $600 when the console war starts (Black Rock reaching the island). Ben Linus is the $300 PS3 slim. Locke is Wii.

Really? It's pretty self-explanatory imo.

They're talking about human evolution. MIB thinks people are incapable of truly improving themselves, and that any steps forward they take always "ends the same": death, destruction, corruption, etc. Jacob has a more optimistic view, believing that humans are always improving and evolving, albeit in small ways. When he says "it only ends once, everything before that is just progress," he's saying that anything that happens in mankind's history can be considered progress. There's only one ending to it (that ending being the eventual extinction of humanity, however that happens).

edit - Catalix said it better.

True. That does make sense. I guess I had trouble grasping it because I kept thinking it had something to do with the time loop, whereas the time loop I suppose is a microcosm of the greater notion of history repeating itself.

Of all the insults I've seen thrown at Locke, this has got to be the one that burns the most.

I have no problems suspending disbelief watching LOST but screw Darlton if they expect me to believe that creepy ass Ethan came from this place--Especially this place.

I thought this as well, didn't MiB say 'they' (referring to human kind)?

Holy shit. I just rewatched the last part of LAX where jack and Locke were talking about the airport losing his father. There's a lot of double meaning that I missed the first time.
"They didn't lose your father, only his body". I can't believe I missed it the first time.

Locke: "My condition is irreversible."
Jack: "Nothing's irreversible."

BELIEVE!!!

I can't get into the insane fan theories. The show's not over, so I still have a wait and see attitude.

Me neither.

I don't really theorize, and when GAFfers post their theories I just glaze right over them (unless it's a few select posters).

I still think there's something in this exchange:

"Say hello to my son."
"Who's your son?--"

EDIT: More than just Locke passing on the vague message that Christian is "alive" in spirit.

The show's been pretty good about answering some questions, at least in seasons 3-5. So I'm sure they will answer the big questions. If it doesn't, then CRAZY SPECULATION AWAY!

Really? People are reading in to the "they didn't lose your father, they just lost his body" too much. I just think it was a really nice character moment that doesn't rely on some slight of hand double meaning.

...

Oh, who am I kidding? I thought it was just a guitar.

It really works for the other characters who have been killed and possessed also.

You know who is mad hot? That woman who was with Horace when Ben was born, she's in Broken Arrow too. Awful film.

As for Jack and John, I thought Jack was going to go crazy when John said that about his dad's body. I thought it was a really strange moment, and it didn't seem like John was being comforting to me.
