Lots of Trump moaning threads, but what are you going to do about it?

Its no secret there are a lot of people unhappy about the results of the US election and how things are shaping up in the new Trump Administration, but I haven't seen much discussion on what people plan to do about it. What is your game plan? How do you personal plan to influence the political dialogue over the next 2 and 4 years?

I for one, am meeting with my county's Democratic Office on Monday to see what roll I can play in the future. They are currently asking for applications for Precinct Chairs. There is a lot of room to grow in my county--- their Facebook pages as 600 likes whereas the Republican page has 950. I'm in deep red Texas country...

Its clear complaining on Facebook or NeoGAF isn't going to accomplish much of anything, so the only way to make things better to is to get engaged in the political process. Passively participating and limited your role to voting isn't enough anymore.

I never really felt I was "qualified" to be an active participant in government beyond voting, but with Trump's election, I now feel that perhaps I have been far too critical of myself. I know I have my strengths and weaknesses, but maybe the bar for public service isn't as high as I once thought... or more likely, it has been brought down much lower than I ever wanted...

Gonna sit on the side line and watch americans reap what they have sown. Not all of them are to blame but the cyclical process of change makes no discrimination.

Hopefully, us Canadians will survive the disaster.

Not much I can do right now but voice my disapproval. I'll have to wait until I can vote again to potentially stop several more years of this madness.

I held a meeting on Thursday with my regional members of a fellowship that empowers minorities to succeed in corporate America; the fellowship provides workshops nationally, and connects fellows with top tier business schools (ivies, MIT, etc) and top employers (Goldman, Google, Facebook, etc.)

The meeting was panel style with four current political staffers of color. One that works directly with President Obama, one that works under a Republican, one in the EPA, and one that worked on Hillary campaign.

Ideas of how to mobilize our communities to become more politically active were shared and I left feeling hopeful.

I'm also having a phone call on Monday about joining the Board of Trustees for my former public charter high school; the high school has a focus on public policy. I hope I can influence the school direction to empower students to see a career in politics.

I'm still looking at a career on Wall St though, I need them sweet tax breaks from supreme leader Don

I put myself on a monthly donation cycle for Planned Parenthood and I just did my training session to start volunteering at a local LGBTQ community center. My take on it is, it's clear that our government won't be working for large swaths of our population, so it's up to everyone to do a little extra and look out for one another, directly or indirectly. Especially those of us in a place of privilege with time to spare.

This is nothing compared to what I've seen from others - marching, organizing, educating themselves about the political landscape - it's all very inspiring, actually, and it's been the only way I've been able to stay sane.

Donate and volunteer for Democrats in '2018, support Obama and Holder's redistricting effort, donate to charities and organizations like the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, HRC, etc.

hard to do much with a torrent of disinformation and propaganda from every side is thrown at you in almost every part of your life

if we could distill what the truth was first, that'd be a good start.
personally I feel country is just too big and it makes it difficult to hold anyone accountable, and the people we rely on to keep the balance are bought and paid for and probably think they're being good people anyway

Vote in 2018

this too

Vote in 2018 and 2020 and try to advise my peers to do the same. If my money gets better I'll donate to campaigns and causes too.

Until then, be super petty and talk mad shit about Trump

I've been signing petitions and calling (i.e., mostly leaving messages) my reps in the House and Senate to protest Trump's cabinet picks, etc.. It may not amount to much, but I'm trying...open to other suggestions, too.

I'm making recurring donations to Bernie Sanders' grassroots campaign, Our Revolution. I hope soon I can comfortably start making these donations larger.

And once I get my life fully in order I hope I can do something more directly.

Advice for Americans:

Be politically engaged, debate and importantly vote and encourage others too. I would say if you are donating aim to donate to non-profit charities that will need help. Do not donate to the fucking Clinton foundation. What a waste pouring millions into that was to let Clinton spend what she spent campaigning and lose. Again, give to non-profit charities for families, minorities, LGBT groups, and any trying to improve living conditions in poor or troubled areas. They will need it given what the Republicans will no doubt do, or lack of doing anything to help many.

If you've got time even volunteer. Working with those that need help is incredibly rewarding, and I mean that in a good way, not egotistical brownie points. Helps your perspective with those in need.

hope for the best and that he's a good president. not gonna sulk, bitch and moan about him, because at the end of the day there's nothing I can do in my power to change the election. Voting for me was worthless anyway, since I live in a blue state. I'm gonna remain optimistic instead of pessimistic.

You must have a very low opinion of yourself. There's nothing admirable about any of this.

While what we have right now is shitty, if the internet wasn't open and Trump was in charge, it'd only get worse.

Of course, now that Trump is in charge, the government might start meddling with the internet that way anyway.

Vote in the midterms in 2 years. Vote in the general election in 4 years.

That's the most important thing anyone can do.

I'm giving up on politics ever making sense and working hard to have the skills to land me a good paying job in an industry likely not to get screwed over by the continuing death marches of automation and outsourcing so that I will be less impacted by shitty politics.

if i really could "make a difference" i'd do it in a heartbeat. i vote, i donate, and i would canvass but i'm in a deep red state

if i had a time machine i'd have gotten a degree that puts me in the political field but you really have to jump on that sort of thing early

for a lot of us there's really no choice but to let the chips fall where they may and hope the administration implodes on itself. an overwhelming possibility imo, which is why i'm not going through a handle of jack daniels daily

Support the legitimacy of all actions taken by the state. The people have spoken, we must respect their will, who are we to question it?

I think people need to calm down and have some perspective here. America despite all its faults has made progress over the decades, and that doesn't just disappear under a new president.

Damage will be done for sure, but the arc of the universe is long. I can't say it necessarily points to freedom. But change is not permanent, change is.

Under his administration, we have every reason to believe that irreparable damage will be done to the planet. The literal end of the world.

We were already screwed, but there was a chance that if the US really got into gear we could reverse the worst aspects of climate change. Instead we have a "climate change dissenter". It's like if you need a 100yd Hail Mary to win the football game but instead the QB immediately fumbles for a touchdown.

Trump has completely changed my post-college plans in two ways:
Job uncertainty for my former goal (was going to work for the Federal government, I don't trust job stability with a Republican congress and president)
Little further desire to take the "easy way out" and take a job that has little overlap with politics.

Although I didn't fully agree with Clinton, I could rest assured that in her America the least fortunate Americans could have some level of protection. The Republican ideology is to say fuck those people, so now I'm going to change my job search and see if there's a way I can combine my degree with something that reduces Trump's effectiveness and/or advances progressive causes.

Global warming alone means that we cannot be passive.
