Here, I gladly pass to you my coveted Worst Analogy Ever award.Amir0x said:you're like the religious people who tell me not to quote the scripture to point out when they're breaking it: "you don't even believe in it, so don't tell ME what the Bible says!"
And I just snigger and mock them: "Whether I believe in it or not, doesn't change the truth of what i've said."
It's something that you have to get used to. Believe me, I felt the same way when I first tried a demo 3DS at Best Buy. But when I actually had my own system and used the 3D for awhile, it became much easier to focus on. Now I don't have any problems seeing the 3D at all, nor do I have any headaches or anything, and the 3D image doesn't break unless I turn the 3DS to the side quite a bit. I don't even have any problems with the 3D when using the gyro controls in Face Raiders, Steel Diver, and Ocarina of Time 3D. You just need to get used to it, like any other new thing.Amir0x said:I will. Because there is no magical autostereoscopic 3D technology on the 3DS you own that everyone else doesn't, and all current autostereoscopic 3D technology currently has horrendous sweet spot issues. So, it's either you're lying or being extremely disingenuous about what you consider a "good" amount of give. I know which one I think it is.

Pros
- The black model is way nicer than the dingy beat-up store demo units I'd seen (all blue)
- Ocarina of time still feels pretty good and seems worth playing. I wrote a FAQ for it when it was still new but I don't think I've played through since
- I quite like the 3D effect, I only wish it were a little more pronounced
- Using the gyroscope for the free-look is really clever and frees up the desire for a second analog stick. I like it a lot. It's probably not technically superior to the iPhone's but for some reason I was pleasantly surprised by it (low expectations).
- analog pad is pretty nice. clever design for sure
Cons
- Unboxing experience was pretty awful. Cheap brown thick cardboard. GIGANTIC stack of books and pamphlets on top, 2/3 of which weren't in English. Apple's miles ahead of this.
- After four years on an iPhone and four years neglecting my DS Lite, resistive touch screens just feel *weird* now.
- The system menus and built in apps are clunky as hell.
- The PPI feels SUPER low after 14 months on an iPhone 4. It can't be higher than 100ppi (too lazy to look it up)
- Extreme glare when outdoors
- the y/x/a/b buttons are gummy and lame
- the select/home/start buttons are absolutely awful
Conclusion is that this'll probably have four or five games over its lifetime that I'll absolutely die to play, and it'll collect dust the rest of the time. It'll probably never leave my home. And that's why I only paid $99 for it (GameStop deal), so no regrets.
It's abundantly clear that dedicated portable game devices of this ilk don't have much of a future. The iPhone's current hardware and user experience kicks this thing's ass, just like the iPhone 5 will probably put the PS Vita to shame by the time it finally launches.

Yep. It's annoying at times in Ocarina of Time, but I've gotten better at holding my hands steady when hitting the L and R buttons. Funny that I have to learn how to hold a handheld properly, but I'm willing to jump through the hoops to get some 3D.yencid said:Noticed something, if the 3DS is even the slightest bit off the eye strain is a lot stronger. When it was perfectly aligned it barely bothered, problem is that just about anything messes up the 3D. just a slight move of the wrist can do it.
Haha. Just remember to turn off 3D when you do those shooting mini-games. Wasted 60 rupees while using the gyroscope with 3D on.Jimmy Stav said:While I'm starting to get used to the 3D (Ocarina of Time looks quite nice), it made me feel extremely sick when I first started using it and it's very easy for me to lose the 3D effect. The sweet spot is pretty tiny.

Would an average eShop user normally be able figure this out on his/her own? I sincerely doubt it. I certainly wouldn't. It is flat-out bad UX that really needs to be fixed.Tathanen said:I hear people saying this all the time, and it is just flat-out untrue.
ATTENTION PEOPLE LOOKING FOR FULL BROWSING LISTS IN THE ESHOP
- Scroll to the left on the main shop screen until you get the "search" button, or tap the "menu" button in the upper-left corner of any screen of the shop and choose "search" from there
- Tap "Add Search Filters"
- Change the platform to whatever it is you'd like to browse, such as "Virtual Console (All)" or "Nintendo DSiWare"
- Tap "Apply Filters"
- You are now browsing every game for that platform, in order of what was most recently uploaded to the shop. You can tap "Sort By..." to view the list by popularity or user rating, or go back to that "Add Search Filters" page to filter by genre, publisher, or price.
Hiding "browse" functionality behind a "search" tile? Not particularly intuitive, for sure. Not letting you browse alphabetically? Inconvenient I suppose but typically you use a sort like that to find a specific game, and you can do the normal keyword search for that.
The point is, you can browse full platform lists just fine, you just need to know how to do it.
Hmm, interesting. Re-arranging mine now.BowieZ said:I'm pretty happy with my Home layout.

Yup, although obviously no more a gimmick than HD graphics, or any feature, really.plasticpassion said:It's ultimately just a gimmick IMO.

BlackSalad said:this may or may not be the thread to post this in, but I've been wanting a 3ds ever since launch. My only problem is I do not want to get one for myself unless I get one also for the the wife... Is it worth the $340 initial investment for multiplayer? The newer golf game looks entertaining, I think ghost recon could be fun for us, and I know starfox/mario kart/brawl would be must haves, plus we've never owned anything since GBA's (@ launch too thx to chu chu rocket). Basically my delimma is I cannot own a 3ds unless there a fair reason for both of us to own 3ds and single player games will not help my cause. Any gaffers have advice? Help me sell this to the significant other!
That's a pretty interesting Home screen setup. Mine's kinda boring, it's mostly the default layout, but I like it that way.BowieZ said:I'm pretty happy with my Home layout.

I don't know what to say besides this being patently untrue. The games on iOS are so much better?? More content??
