Just finished up all three seasons.

Holy fucking shit what a fucking series. I need more!

So I'm curious how much of this is based on history 😱

Has anyone here been to modern day deadwood? lol

Welp I don't usually typo but when I do it's for excitement, as I literally just finished the series and am posting from mobile.

God rest the souls I may have offended... and pussy's half price for the next 15 minutes!!!

Edit: Fucking cocksucker Hearst

My favorite series of all time. Just finished a re-watch with the wifey recently, and it just gets better upon each viewing.

As for the history question: most of the major players are based on real-life people, and a lot of the broad strokes are there, but Milch took a lot of liberties as well. Seth Bullock, for instance, was not an ill-tempered killjoy with a short fuse as the show depicts. He was actually known for his ability to negotiate and settle situations without using force. He did have several run-ins with Al Swearengen over his operations at the Gem, which eventually led to Bullock drawing a dividing line through the main thoroughfare of the camp, and he pretty much just enforced the laws on his side of the line. There's a lot of detailed history on Deadwood from this time period, and I'd recommend any fan of the show go spend some time reading about it. Pretty cool stuff.

There were some things swirling earlier this year about doing a film. Don't know if anything's developed on that. I'll never forgive HBO for cancelling the show. Same for Rome. Loopy fucking cunts.

One of the biggest tragedies was this show getting cancelled!

I always wanted them to do a spin-off in like old West coast Chinatowns. Wu's origin or something. All the illegal gambling spots and underground shanghaiing in SF, Portland, Port Townsend, and Seattle would be an awesome show.

Thanks yeah.

Been reading this: https://www.deadwood.com/history/

what a facisnating place lol
holy shit:
Long after the Black Hills gold rush ended, the brothels of DeadwoodÂ’s Main Street continued to operate. They were shut down briefly in 1950 when an overeager StateÂ’s Attorney tried to shut them down. But just a few months later, many of the establishments reopened due to a legal technicality.

In 1980, federal and state authorities were finally able to shut down the last four remaining brothels. Local supporters protested the raid with a Main Street parade—much like the one that happened when Madam Mustache and Dirty Em rolled into town on Charlie Utter’s wagon train.

Yes, awesome show. We're rewatching it now, and just finished the second season. Ian McShane pretty much makes the show.

"Every footstep a fuckin' adventure."

just finished this

holy shit, deadwood

everyone was so good.. jim beaver especially

yeah the casting was amazing. Behind the cursing, The dialogue is fantastic it's so poetic, almost Shakespearean.

Who would argue that the venue was the cause of these happy memories, nor the bill of fare? The bitter coffee, the rancid bacon, those stale biscuits that were tomb and grave to so many insects. No, gentlemen, it was the meandering conversation, the lingering with men of character – some of whom are walking with me now – that was such pleasure to experience, and such a joy now to recall.

gonna check out Justified then.

I still maintain that the fight between Dan and the Captain is probably one the greatest, if not the greatest fight scene in any medium.

Or maybe I'm just biased. It was so damn good.

To me Deadwood might be the best TV series ever made and one of the few that have a real humanist outlook to the writing. All of the characters felt like living, breathing humans which cannot be said about 99% of the modern series's (however good they might be otherwise).

bump! Is Justified a Bullock-worthy watch after this series?

Justified had some of the best character dialogue in the game. Definitely a must watch if you loved Deadwood. Lots of cameos too.

My friends and I use swears from Deadwood all the time. My one guy was late and I told the table "he must be busy prickling his prick in the cunt brine of another." Then I realized I had just said that in a crowded restaurant on a Saturday afternoon lol
