hamchan said:They took a really long time developing it and it's the most linear FF ever with a big lack of sidequests compared to past entries. Also is it shorter compared to past games? Or maybe the length of time the story takes place over is much shorter, makes it feel less epic.
Characters were awesome, I really didn't have a problem with any of them. Sure Hope was a little whiny, but he was a kid and I could relate to his plight.

Anyway, I thought XIII was OK, and certainly not as bad as GAF makes it out to be (besides Hope and Snow). But XII wasn't only a better FF game, but one of the best games I've ever played.
I hated everything about the game except the gameplay, graphics and music
Not in an RPG game. Explorations (literally non-existent), sidequests (uninteresting and boring), story (this needs no explanation), characters (with the exception of Lightning and fang, the rest can burn in hell for all I care), poor design choice (switching between characters & the summons looked ridiculious).Jeels said:Isn't that the majority of what makes up a game?
Put me in the FFXIII was great camp. I need to start a new play through.

Oh lord, this. I can honestly say Vanille ruined the whole game for me. Everytime I hear her talk I want to bitch slap her to get her to shut the fk up. Her voice has been so sexualized it felt like she got a dildo stuck up her ass the entire game. The way she laughs, giggles, and moans. It was terrible.mavs said:I think I could have gotten into (or through) this game if there were no cutscenes and dialogue was text-only. I can't remember the last time I experienced any media so completely sabotaged by mere voice acting.
Nah that was MGS4.acidspunk said:I'm guessing you haven't played many games. It was the disappointment of the console generation.
Alex said:My main issue with the game is that it wasn't a game. There isn't one single part of it's interactivity that isn't broken and braindead, you can't find a dumber RPG than this.
enzo_gt said:OP I agree with everything in your post.
Right up until you mentioned the ending. Worst ending to any game ever. Also the bosses sucked for the most part in this game. Top 5 of all time? I wouldn't say top 50 this gen. It isn't a great game, but it's a pretty good one.
Le-mo said:My least favorite Final Fantasy and my most regretted purchase of 2010. I hated everything about the game except the gameplay, graphics and music, but in the end I could not pull myself together to finish the game. The characters were shit with the exception of Lightning and Fang. Vanille......is my most hated video game character ever. I hated everything about her. If I could have muted her for the whole entire game I might have been able to finish the game. The story was shit. This was the first JRPG that I've played that required the player to switch between characters and quite frankly, I fking hated it. Dumb decision. It's a shame that a game with such great gameplay mechanics was packaged into such a poorly designed game. No exploration? F u Square-Enix.

OP: how did you feel about XII?
i dug the battle stuff mostly, music and transitions were great...characters had their moments, i thought acts 6-9 or so were pretty goodbut i hated how they had me start to dig lightning then just kinda gave up on telling me about her, or anything in vanille's village (which was really a great setting, with that music), and yeah, the endgame shat all over itself plotwise which makes it hard to stand out in my head as being a really solid entry.sazh with gun to vanllle's head in the rain was a pretty tense scene
its not nearly as bad as GAF/others give it, i think, but im not sure if it makes my top 5 FF games of all time, its close though.

I can't decide if this is a joke post or one of the saddest defenses of a "video game" I've read.Silver_DNA said:I'd like to jump in on the FF13 love, or whatever is going on in here. I liked the battle system because it allowed me to do a lot of cool stuff with minimum effort. The linear story line meant I always knew where to go next. And while I thought the story was just okay, it kept me interested until the end and seemed like a genuine effort by Square-Enix to appeal to a western market.
My increasingly busy days mean my video game hobby is turing into a form a relaxation, and I could relax while playing Final Fantasy 13. I haven't liked an FF game this much since I played 8.
(Since I liked 2, 8, and 13 does that make me a weirdo?)

Not the most popular opinion perhaps, but I don't care.

Maybe make a Japanese game you dumb cunts, not a muddled, boring attempt at pleasing Westerners.jonnybryce said:When Square Enix gives interviews upon interviews about how they know FF13 let a lot of gamers down and that they're not sure what fans of the series want anymore due to the negative feedback they've received it's not just a Gaf thing.
FFXIII is possibly the biggest un-western title out there.I should be doing hw said:Maybe make a Japanese game you dumb cunts, not a muddled, boring attempt at pleasing Westerners.

Yes I remember the 1up interview, but that seemed to be more of an excuse like "hey yeah it's like CoD and not because we fucked up".ULTROS! said:They put Leona Lewis.
Also, I remember reading Kitase being inspired by Western FPS games to make FFXIII or something.
Pretty much. I liked XII. I don't like XIII.cosmicblizzard said:It actually seems like fans of XIII are generally not fans of XII and vice versa. Makes sense since they're polar opposites.
