LTTP: PS3 Remote Play doesn't actually work with anything

All I wanted to do was check the Golden Week Sale currently going on the US PSN Store. Unfortunately I have family over at the moment and they were hogging the TV to watch Dancing With the Stars. No problem, I think to myself.

I pulled my Vita out and powered my PS3 on via Remote Play to check the Store. I haven't used PS3 Remote Play in a long time and I had gotten used to how PS4 Remote Play lets me operate the whole console from my Vita without restrictions. So I go the PS Store on PS3 over Remote Play and get the message "This content cannot be used with Remote Play." Really? I can't look at the PS Store on PS3 over Remote Play? Come on, Sony. I know that it doesn't work with games at all (besides Lair, LOL) but nobody figured you might want to browse the store? Out of curiosity I wanted to see if anything actually worked on PS3 Remote Play besides the XMB, so I tried to open the YouTube app and lo and behold, "This content cannot be used with Remote Play.".

I give up. I'm not even going bother trying to use PS3 Remote Play anymore.

Not every game is supported but I did try Tokyo Jungle which works surprisingly well. PS4 RP is the real deal though.

PS3 remote play is pretty much only for PSone games and....uhh...PixelJunk titles

I guess God of War and Team ICO collection too, post patch

Literally it.

I wish I had a PS3 capable of CFW just so I can get Remote Play on basically every PS3 game. Such a great feature that barely anything uses.

PlayTV, and DLNA support is what I've mostly used it for. Turns PSP/Vita into portable TV, or media streaming device.

The store used to be accessible via Remote Play - before Sony updated the store to be an app. It's disappointing that they never made the new store support remote play. But the PS3 can barely manage to run the Store app, it performs so badly.

First, the sale doesn't start until tomorrow, so you wouldn't be able to see anything.

Second, can't you just use the vita's native store?

It works with every PS1 games, including games on disc and PSN Classics. The lag is pretty dire though even on a direct connection, I have trouble even with purely menu-driven RPGs. PS4 Remote Play is so much better.

Does the web store work on the Vita's browser? I know it works on the PS4, which is kinda fun.

It's shit. Not even really a feature. Don't trick yourself into thinking this is even a thing. Because it's not.

It was a start, but there was just not enough power there. It wasn't designed to be, especially on PSP. Remote Play on Vita and PS4 have special video processors or something that blows away what PSP/Vita were able to do with PS3. However, if you only have a PS3 and both PSP and Vita, do remote play via Vita. It runs much better there. But nothing compares to what Vita and do with PS4.

The PS3, unlike the PS4, was never designed with remote play in mind. Which is why it sucks.

PS4's got the background processor, a video decoding chip and faster wifi, so it's so much better at it.

Both physical and digital PS1 games can be remote played on vita.

Yes it works with disks. I've done it with FFVII of course it's not as convient for switching that way but it works.

Thats great because i've been wanting to play MGS 1 on Vita but don't want to spend $10 when i already have the disc version.

Is there any sort of input lag? I won't mind if its just a few frames but anything too noticeable i probably won't bother.

If you wanna use Remoteplay PS3 then get CFW basically. Or just play the short compatible list

Still get heavy input lag either way and the picture quality is pretty bad

The lag is terrible. Feel free to try it, there's a few parameters you can tweak to make it better, but don't expect anything very playable.

Remote play with PS3 is a mess. Why would you even bother? So bad that I NEVER imagined it could work so well on PS4.

use the vita browser? unless op doesn't have wifi...

I guess I would just use the web store on my phone if I wanted to do that. No reason to use the Vita's browser. I just thought I could be clever and use the PS3 to browse the store from my Vita, but nope.

It helps if I wait until the sale starts though anyways.

There was never a party to go to when it comes to PS3 Remote Play. Maybe the experience will give you even more appreciation for how much better PS4 Remote Play is. I mean, at least it works. Sony really stepped up its game.

Yup PS3 remote play is pretty much useless. Still glad they attempted it though, because now we have awesome remote play on PS4. :)

Of course it's bad. 802.11b.

Early Remote Play was based on their home media streaming, the interactivity came later and was resource intensive on PS3. it worked pretty well with streaming DLNA content.

Yup. It was maddening for several months last year when commenters here on GAF - supposedly informed gamers - kept saying "remote play sucks" in response the the PS4/Vita RP info. I guess we had to go through that experiment to get what we have now.

I just played ICO on it, worked well enough, though the ps4 is obviously superior by a large margin. Would have rather had a portable version of ICO but it's better than nothing.

Work and playability are two different things.

Yeah, especially the latter PS1 games when the DS1 was made available. The games that were designed around the original PS1 controller worked very well on remote play on PSP. With the touch screen and back touch pad on Vita, the latter games work much better than they do on PSP, in which you need to press multiple buttons to emulate the pressing of one button, which is not ideal, especially when speed is required.

It's garbage and why would I want to remote play a PS1 game to my psp/vita with extreme latency when I could just install the game direct to the device. Missed opportunity but they got it right on PS4

If you have a smart phone or tablet you can just look at the web store. The PS3 store not only functions incredibly poorly, but I find the layout confusing.

Aww I just bought a Vita and I was really excited to remote play The Last of Us. I just knew it was a feature, I didn't realize it didn't work.

This is what I used it for PlayTV was immense with it on the PSP and Vita. I kinda wish they would bring something similar to the PS4 now.

i played a good portion of tales of xillia via remote play
tales of symponia works too
the only problem is that audio is choppy, video and control were good

a lot of games work actually, that bullshit sony said about it's up to the developers to implement remote play is not true
cfw enables remote play on most games, with good results a lot of the times

it's my belief that ps3 remote play was shelved for ps4 remote play since it was coming out
i think if they optimized ps3 remote play, the choppy audio problem would probably be solved
