So after months and years of putting it off, I finally got around to reading...

My god...so awesome. I loved Bryan Lee O'Malley's art style and writing tone. The books were funny, cheeky (I loved the wink-nudges towards geek culture), charming, and I found myself falling in love with the characters. Admittedly, I had a crush on Ramona while reading them, too. Like a big crush. :\

If I have one complaint it's that Book 6 makes almost no sense. I read it twice and I still had no idea what the hell was going on making for a somewhat of an unsatisfying conclusion to an otherwise fantastic series. It also calls to light just how badly miscast the movie was...especially Michael Cera's dweeby portrayal of Scott.

Once the all the color editions are out, I plan I buying the set and re-reading them from the beginning. I've learned the power of understanding!

I think Cera was the perfect Scott. The only reason the ending of the movie doesn't relate to the comics at all is because they had to reshoot the very end so that
Scott ends up with Ramona
and I think that was because they weren't allowed to read book 6 or something like that, maybe? Not sure.

of course this may be biased because this is my favorite movie ever.

i loved te comics and read them as they were released

the movie was better, even if they did leave out matthew patel

Might have been miscast, but the movie itself was solid. Adaptations are adaptations and such.

Indeed. Great film.

It's been a while since I read the books but I remember enjoying the hell out of them. I need to go back and reread them. Or hell, actually purchase them instead of using the library again. Stupid two-to-four week wait for inter-library loans kept breaking the flow.

I thought it was Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour.

Oh you're right, it's the second volume. My bad!

On topic, I love both versions.
The movie has a kick-ass soundtrack, great battles (the fight against the Twins was crazy)... And I actually liked Cera as Scott.
The comics have more character development which made a lot of characters more interesting than in the movie... I also wish some scenes like Crash and The Boys helping Scott were in the movie.

I love this series so much. I have the box set of the comics, the Collecter's Edition Blu-Ray of the movie (and the recently released Steelbook edition!), a figurine of Scott with The Power of Love, and a Ramona poster hanging on my door.

Re: the movie, it's in my top 5. Even if you don't care for the characters or dialogue, it's a triumph in cinematography, sound editing and visual effects, and the music and atmosphere are awesome.

Scott Pilgrim was the first comic I read, I really really loved it. I think it would have been better if they actually released more than just one movie, I feel that it was kinda rushed because there were 6 books, but anyway I enjoyed and Cera was the best actor for Scott.

I bought the steelbook for $12 at Walmart last month! DVD/Blu-Ray/maybe some other version? Not sure.

I love the comic, and it's amazing how they got the movie casting perfect for everyone... except the main character. Huh.

If you have a chance, play the game, it's co-op fun and the soundtrack is amazing!

Does it add anything to the normal BR version?

hmm...haven't even watched it yet but I'd guess no.

also: do get the game indeed. some of the best $15 ever (with the knives addon of course, need to get Wallace soon...)

Loved the comic. The movie had some great stuff but I didn't like turning the Ramona/Scott relationship into a parallel of the Scott/Knives relationship, especially since they changed the ending to match the comic.

As a massive fan of the game, I'd really advise against buying the Wallace DLC. He's a lazy headswap of Stephen with a few unfinished/broken animations and rainbow-coloured hit effects, and the online mode is absolutely atrocious (it lags like crazy and I've never completed a session without it being dropped).

That said, everyone with even a passing interest in the comics and/or beat-em-ups should play the game, if only to experience Anamanaguchi's amazing soundtrack (Another Winter and Gideon Wrath are two of my iPod's most-played song).

Amazing series. I read them all after seeing the movie(which I love). After reading the comics I think the movie should have been made in two movies. The ending felt rushed. Kind of. I suppose I didn't think it was rushed until after I read the comics. Haha.

Anyways, I love both of them!

Snagged the first volume when it was the kindle daily deal the other day. I'd glanced at it previously and never really "got" it. Thoroughly enjoyed the first volume this time around though.

Really enjoyed reading the series.

The movie was pretty good as well.

Had fun with the game too.

This does remind me I need to stop being lazy and put up the nice box I got for all the volumes already.

If I remember right, book 6 wasn't done yet when they were writing the script. They only had notes from O'Malley about it. The filmmakers and O'Malley worked pretty close together on the script towards the polishing stage to the point that some of the lines they wrote for the movie ended up in book 5 and 6.

Think about that really hard, because there is no way Scott Pilgrim would have made it to movie 2 if the box office had anything to say about it

Awwww man. Stephen's, like, my least favorite vanilla character. Sucks about the online too. And Rock Club all the way!

Ahh, good to know! Thank you!

Coulda done a Kill Bill--make a four hour film and chop it in half, release its parts three months apart.

Coincidentally on TV right now.

I never knew Kill Bill Vol. 2 was released 3 months after... I knew they were filmed at the same time but still.

It's one of the best movies I've seen in a long, long time. I literally can't remember the last movie where I actually wanted to see it again right after finishing it the first time.

The movie may be Edgar Wright's masterpiece

The comic might be the best damn comic of it's respective decade

The video game...well, it looks pretty and has great chiptunes

So yeah, pretty cool across media boundaries

The sixth volume was a big disappointment to me because it contained no surprises. Just about all the major events happened exactly as I was expecting. I got the feeling O'Malley just wanted to be done with the series, so he put out a perfunctory final volume and that was it.
Too bad, because the books were getting better with each volume before that. It's amazing how much the art shifted from volume 1.

I haven't seen The World's End yet, but it's not as good as Shaun or Hot Fuzz. Technically it's amazing and the action scenes are terrific, but the storytelling is outright bad in the second half.

I really liked the movie, but the comic has never done it for me. A bunch of forced references with a not-too-insightful relationship tale and incredibly inconsistent art. I thought seeing the references to geek culture in a multi-million dollar film made a much bigger impression than in a comic. It doesn't really blow my doors off to see a Zelda reference in a comic book...let's face it, a lot of the people who make comics are game nerds. But seeing such a thing in a major motion picture, now that was a novelty.

The main thing the movie is missing is knive's dad. that sequence in the comic's is great.

Overall though, I prefer the movie. Something about the comic never quite sat right with me. I also had a hard time telling characters apart because of the overly simplified art style + hairstyle/clothing changes.

If you ask me the movie would have been stronger if they left it the way it originally was. I was always of the opinion that, in the book, Scott should have
ended up with Kim Pine. Since Kim isn't as developed in the movie, Knives would have been a fine substitute.

I don't understand why MTV passed on doing this as a series. Could have easily drawn the same audience that Daria did.
Did MTV really pass on it? I thought it was a limited, 2 episode thing for Adult Swim. Regardless, I'd watch it for sure.
