LucasArts' and BioWare's long-awaited, much-discussed joint development project -- widely speculated to be an MMO set in the Star Wars universe circa BioWare's own Knights of the Old Republic -- will be revealed to the press October 21, according to an invitation sent out to media outlets including Gamasutra.

Fun

I think we all know what it is, but finally we'll get some details. And maybe some screens/vids. :D

I loved KOTOR 1 and loved KOTOR 2 even more, and I'm greatly looking forward to a KOTOR MMO (which this surely is). I think that both Guild Wars and Lord of the Rings Online have shown that it is possible to include a good story line in an MMO, so I'm confident that Bioware will succeed in doing even better than these games, in this respect.

:( I know. Where's my DLC/Mass Effect 2?
If there is a sequel or DLC in the works, Microsoft will probably be telling them to shut up for the mean awhile...and I think Bioware tends to like to get some progress on a project before they start showing it off.

TGS is our last real hope for DLC. I wouldn't get ya hopes up, cause ya know Microsoft hasn't even told us what the GTA IV dlc is yet.

A KotOR MMO sounds weird to me... because there's already a Star Wars MMO out there, and no one seems to like it.

It better be a Monkey Island MMO!!
I'd be there day one.

It had a rabid fanbase, but the developers changed it to be more like WoW, which pissed people off.

People USE to like it...this will hopefully be the REAL star wars MMO

Why is everything on October 21st?

Because it's my birthday yay! :D

I am also going with KOTOR MMO but I reserve any excitement. The last SW MMO was meh and Bioware first has to proof that they can also do a MMO.

I guess that's kind of what I'm hoping for. I really loved both of the KotOR games, but it seems kind of amusing to think that there'll be two Star Wars MMOs out at the same time.

Galaxies, in its original form, had (and still has) the most passionate following I've ever seen in an MMO.

very very very low expectations for this title.

Lucasarts leaks said the game is a heavily upgraded Star Wars Galaxies etc.

Considering it was Lucasarts who wanted Galaxies to be a WoW Clone instead of the Sandbox it was originally I suspect we will all be bitterly dissapointed in the direction Lucasarts is taking KOTOR MMO

What? This is the dream, son. Bioware with the Star Wars licence to play around with is a joy to behold, and the KOTOR time period is perfect for such an MMO. The Jedi thing never really worked in SWG, because according to the lore there were only secret Jedi running around at the time, leading to all sorts of complications when the developers started messing with the initial formula.

See? Early SWG was good!

Damn, really? I mean, wouldn't Bioware be pushing for a more cinematic, expansive experience? But I really could see LucasArts stone-walling for a WoW clone. Grrr.

Gotcha. I understand now.

Not really. I don't even think Mass Effect has been released in Japan or if its going to be released there.

As much as I would love more DLC, I want more info about Mass Effect II than DLC. I'm eager to see the improvements and the storyline take the next step.

After playing TFU and Sonic Chronicles, this news means much less to me than it would have a month ago.

Considering I'm opposed to paying a monthly fee for a video game, let's hope there isn't a subscription charge. Otherwise, the ending(?) of the KOTOR trilogy will be Wikipedia'd or YouTube'd for me... :(

The chance of them going Guild Wars on this are about 0%.

Big companies are diving into the MMO space to collect monthly subs, unfortunately.

I really don't get this line of thought.

The price of only 3 next-gen games brand new is the exact same as a year's MMO fee.

I actually save money because I buy less games. I used to buy 2-3 games a month at $50-$60 each. $15 a month is a freakin steal... if the MMO is any good.

OH WHATEVER COULD THIS BE?!?!?!?!!?

This will be the most anticlimactic announcement ever. This has been beaten around the bush so much that the bush has been killed, uprooted, thrown away and replaced by a statue of Wicket.

hey lucasarts: how about you and namco announce something? like, oh i dont know, a star was fighting game based on the soul calibur 4 engine?

or does that just stink of too much common sense?

Do you just have an assload of gifs ready for every possible announcement? :D

Keep it up.

SOmetimes I wonder if people have a crazy organization system for their gifs, because tons appear at every announcement, or if people just make them from scratch every time.
