Loom
Monkey Island 2 Special Edition

I forgot that Outlaws was even a thing that existed. I can't remember if it was any good or not, but I do remember playing the demo now. I think I got it on a PC Zone CD.

People, BUY OUTLAWS!!! It's amazing! One of the best Doom-clones ever created and has a RDR feel to it. It's beyond perfect!

My body lies over the ocean,
My body lies over the sea,
My daddy lied over my mammy,
And that's how they had little me!

The Dig is awesome!

Never again.

ZAK MCRACKEN!
FUCK YEAH!

Well I didn't wanna spend any more cash til April, but fuck it, here's my money GOG.

edit: Is Loom the same as on Steam? IIRC the OG Floppy Disk ver. is considered the best ver. of the game right?

Zak McCracken needs to be in everyone's game collection. I remember making a certain Commodore store clerk's life hell for 6 months, checking daily to see if the game had been released. Buy it!

I bought Loom on Steam for OSX a while back, tried playing recently and the voiceover/animation are completely out of sync with long pauses for the animation to catch up.

Never again.

LOL

Yeah, this puzzle sucked. As a whole though, I absolutely love The Dig. Surely some of the best atmosphere in any game ever. That music, the loneliness, the abandoned civilization... real Spielberg magic.

Also, Outlaws! That was the thing I came to post about, I can't wait to play Outlaws again.

Holy shit!
I totally forgot Outlaws even existed, but I spent like a whole summer playing it as a kid.

I'll probably never buy or play it again, but it's great to know it's out there for those wanting to experience it.

Holy shit, didn't recognize the name Outlaws but I looked it up and I actually played the hell out of that game as a kid, definitely picking it up!

ZAAAAK!

Is that now all of the early-SCUMM titles with the exception of Maniac Mansion? I'm expecting MM to be covered with the DOTT remake that's on the way, which would make it understandable that it's not out.

I seem to recall that one of Infernal Machine and Emperor's Tomb was regarded as significantly better than the other. Am I remembering right, and if so, which is the better one?

I can remember when Outlaws looked cutting edge, we were all amazed by it at the time.

Its a superb game.

Outlaws is terrific, one of my all-time favorites. Highly recommended. As others have said, the Morricone-inspired soundtrack is incredible. One of the very few game soundtracks that gets spins from me.

As much as I love the visuals, I don't remember folks being too high on how the game looked when it was released. It came out right after Quake (true 3D!) and games that came out afterwards on the faux 3D engines (Build engine and Dark Forces engine, like Outlaws) were seen as antiquated.

On my first playthrough, I had one of those strange integrated graphics cards that messed up my sound and went through most of the game without audio (!). Ended up getting a new rig with a Monster 3D card and was set up. Direct 3D! Besides the music, the audio is great. Game looked incredible with accelerated graphics. From the gunshots to the enemy AI taunts, just too cool. Outlaws was my first FPS experience with reloading guns and rifle scope. Definitely ahead of its time in many ways.

Multiplayer was so very fun, too. DM, TDM and Capture the Flag and Kill the Fool with the Chicken (?). I played all of the modes on the Zone and mIRC. Some neat custom maps. Just checked and saw that one of my old web haunts is still up. Neat site, I think the guy created his own art for the page.

Haven't played Zak since the C64 days. Instant purchase and I'd like to try Indy and Outlaws as well. Excellent releases.

Based gog, zak mckracken looks like the FM Towns Marty version.

Anyone bought Loom yet? Is it the cut-down talkie pc version or the FM Towns version?

--edit

Ah, there's audio, looks like the pc version :(

I forget, was this supposed to be the last wave, and if so, is GOG likely to dole out a few more releases over the next couple of weeks like they did with wave 2?

If this is it, I gotta wonder if Curse of Monkey Island is destined for a remaster. Maybe even Escape too.

edit: Oh yeah, and Outlaws is awesome. Played that when it came out, managed to beat it though I recall it being really tough. I don't even like Westerns in general. :)

Outlaws looks like a buy for me. I've never even heard of it, but it looks interesting and I'm seeing a lot of positive responses both here and on the GOG forums.

Favorite memory from The Dig is playing god and making an abomination turtle, only to see it decompose on me from my incompetence as a deity.

Outlaws, finally! The game is a pain in the ass to run on modern OS. The GoG version will probably solve this.

Is this Indy as good as Infernal Machine? I really want to replay that one...
I played both (Emperor's Tomb on PS2, Infernal Machine on PC and N64 - Blockbuster exclusive!). I didn't complete them but I got stuck near the end of both games. I think I prefer Infernal Machine just because it seems to balance out the adventure game parts with the action/Tomb Raider-esque gameplay. (If I remember correctly, Infernal Machine was LucasArts response to the popularity of Tomb Raider, similar to how X-Wing was a response to Wing Commander).

Emperor's Tomb certainly has some adventuring aspects (inventory, puzzles, etc.) but definitely leans on the rock 'em, sock 'em action more. Personally, I enjoyed both a great deal - it may just depend on which style you prefer. I do remember Infernal Machine being a bit janky with movement and interactions but I still love it. The creator of the Fate of Atlantis worked on Infernal Machine, so it certainly has the pedigree. I'm a big Indy fan so I am a pretty easy target for his gaming offerings.

Ooh, this is great. I loved Emperor's Tomb at the time, but I'm expecting it hasn't held up, but I'll get it out of nostalgia. Loom and the Dig are great - even though I already own them on Steam.

Zak McKracken is the only Lucas adventure I really don't like. Not particularly funny, and lots and lots of horrible dead ends. Especially with that awkward money system in place and having to fly from place to place (which costs money each time) without knowing where to go first or when you're done there. It's very easy to get stuck in an unwinnable state without knowing it, thanks to the numerous random puzzles without any strong logic behind them. Lots of mazes to stretch out the game in the second half as well. I find it almost impossible to finish without a guide, and even then it's not a very pleasant ride.

Outlaws though. Outlaws is gold. Was waiting for this, I felt like it had an even lower chance of being rereleased than the old adventure games. Going to download it as soon as I can.

Every time I see a batch of Lucasarts games get re-released I get excited and look for Maniac Mansion and Day of the Tentacle, and I always leave disappointed.

I imagine Double Fine's Dott release should have some kind of classic mode, which would give you both dott and mm (via weird ed's computer).

I think more games should have a new release like Duke Nukem 3D had on Steam. Not only is the game re-released, but the multiplayer works like a modern game.

Tentacle is getting a remake by Double Fine, and presumably it'll include a classic mode and Maniac Mansion as an easter egg, just like with the original DOTT.

Continued lack of Full Throttle is a bummer.

Double Fine is also planning to remake Full Throttle after they've done Day of the Tentacle, depending on how well the Grim and Tentacle remakes did.

Is all the LucasArts classics appearing on GoG mainly thanks to Disney? Because I gotta know who I have to thank for making all the classics readily available again.

How is that Indy game? I remember liking the demo, you could pick up chairs and beat dudes with them.
