MAG bullshots

GI scans are out and it confimmed to be FPS

The biggest change SOCOM fans will notice in MAG is the gameplay perspective; Zipper abandoned the third-person perspective in favor of a first-person experience. "We looked at the number of different camera options for the game, and settled on FPS primarily because of the scale of MAG," Bodewin remarks. "Some of our previous games were third-person, and it was well suited to [managing] teammates and AI quadrates as well. But for a game of this size we really wanted to make it the most immersive and the most intense large-scale game that we could. There's really no better way to do that than to sink you right into the action and look at things through a first-person perspective."

Thanks TTP :D

Apparently this is in the new GI also

The servers make intelligent decisions as to what information reaches the console, optimizing each user's fixed amount of bandwidth. Zipper hopes its architecture keeps the battles humming along above 30 frames-per-second in every circumstance, whether 100 soldiers are fighting over a key point or four aerial assaults are triggered at the exact same time. The dedicated server structure also allows Zipper to systematically eliminate cheating by monitoring server activity, and the team has placed a huge emphasis on streamlining matchmaking to avoid long waits between matches.

Awesome! Now let's get to the meat of this, the gameplay! Come on details. Persistent wars? Classes? "Perks"? Let's go people! :p

...oh. Party system? Please be a party system. Especially something this large scale.

I think Shadow War is the name of the fictional war going on in MAG. That's it.

That's Shadow Rawr.

Here I go I guess. Just typing it as I read it lol

-2 to 256 Players
-'hopes' for 30FPS when all the action is going down at all times
-Dedicated servers with new network architectures to help reduce lag
-Streamline matches to reduce need to wait.
-All audio cues (planes flying by, air raid sirens) are actual players causing it or player triggered actions. This can happen in other regions and you can hear in distance.
-PunkBuster quality cheating detection. System tests for things like rate of fire/movement/damage to keep things in check
-First Person view (better sense of scale and immersion into game)
-20 years in future, 3 major PMCs bid for war. The power struggle of these 3 dubbed Shadow War
3 Factions, only 2 announced now: Raven(high tech weapons, most trained soldiers on planet. Will appeal to Halo/Resistances fans). Sver(fierce fighters from middle east/central Asia area. Battle harden warriors)
-256 Domination mode. Attackers and defenders. Out layer of defense and inner layer. Once gone through the out layer 'hell breaks loose'. Anti-aircraft and radar are vulnerable. If your faction wins alot it gets the contract for that game mode and gets XP bonuses and perks.
-3 other game modes: Acquisition(128 player escort-style mode. Steal 2 prototype armored transports and bring to extraction zone). Sabotage(64player, control 2 points for X time then a demolition objective is revealed which must be destroyed). Suppression(64 player team deathmatch)
-Customize face, voice, armor.
-No soldier class system, but has a free-form kit creation. Can save 3 different load-outs. Depending on your choice of weapons, it can be told by looking at you so others can tell. Change your load-out to match how the battle is going.
-Snipers can get more than normal XP for killing people in designated areas of importance
-Ranking up gives access to new weapons/perks/leadership positions.
-Recognizes issues with large scale maps and the traveling.

-8 player into a squad, 4 squads into a platoon, 4 platoons into a company (US Military)
-Certain goals for each squad/platoon etc. Have 2ndary goals like blowing bridges.
-Veteran ranks can enlist into leadership roles, give orders to squad, then platoon, then the company(OIC)
-Officer only communication channel to help organize the battle

-Want to be approachable to casual yet have alot of features for the hardcore.
-Been running 256 player tests since Nov. 08 and plans to have closed/open betas.

Dedicated servers fuck yeah. Only problem is where these servers are located :lol No use having them in the U.S. if you want this game to be successful globally.

It sounds good but I don't want to get my hopes up in case it fails.

It honestly sounds like they grabbed some of the better elements from Operation Flashpoint, Battlefield 2, and Call of Duty 4, and meshed them all together to pump out this.

The only real problems I can find in this are map sizes if you want the full 256 players, and other players themselves. I imagine at times the more popular modes will be those 64 player servers just so the idiot player ratio will be lessened.

At E3 last year they claimed they were already running 256-player matches. I guess they were full of crap.

You thought regular players were going to be able to host 256-player matches? :lol

Well its says they been running 256 player matches each week since Nov. 08. So I guess they could be running the matches earlier too.

It wouldn't have surprised me if it happened. This is console gaming!

Thank god this is confirmed to be an FPS, this gen thas has proved that all TPS games suck online.

-Ranking up gives access to new weapons/perks/leadership positions.

:O

Did they say anything about the release date?

Excellent thank you! So far sounds incredible. Anti-air? Huge escorts hopefully done SOCOM style? Ganking experimental weapons? Snipers getting bonus xp? Sign me up.

I hope they get this closed beta up and running soon. I need to get into this one, my luck with Sony's random pulls have sucked so far though, outside of Home.

Until more details, "In Zipper I Trust".

Nice...but I can sense Delaystation striking hard this Fall.

Way to jinx it... way to jinx it :(

Anyways, I'd think they wouldn't want to go for a Nov release date. Perhaps early Oct?

That is a pretty cool way to be doing this. Until a match is lost then you will earn a premium from what your PMC does best.
-PunkBuster quality cheating detection. System tests for things like rate of fire/movement/damage to keep things in check
Sounds like they got everything under control.

You have now been quoted.
-Certain goals for each squad/platoon etc. Have 2ndary goals like blowing bridges.
This should spice up the given orders, good decision.

TTP

Have a fun! Enjoy!

Damn, I'm afraid this system will label me as a cheater. :/

Reminds me of a wet dream I had some weeks ago.

I'm really hyped for this one now. When it was announced I wasn't too impressed with it or interested in playing an FPS on the PS3, but I've gotten quite used to the DS3 in a FPS thanks to Killzone 2. I really hope I get into the beta because I don't think they'll be doing a demo for this one.

Thanks for the info, sounds good on paper let's see if it's good as a game (finger crossed), anyways I hope they don't rush it like Socom just to avoid the holiday big games.

No Conquest-style mode? :\

Although with this in mind I guess it'd kind of be like a large scale capture-and-defend-these-points-mmkay mode anyway. A bit like Titan in BF2142 perhaps, only objectives will be more varied than just capturing and holding bases.

This game could end up being multiplayer greatness. I really hope Zipper can pull it off. The name is still stupid though.

Yeah I don't understand this either. The FPS market is already oversaturated.

Warhawk doesn't suck

All I want to know is if you can call airstrikes on areas you already ordered your platoons to go to :lol

Also what kind of blast damage is there in this game?
