WASHINGTON, DC — A video that appears to show United States Marines urinating on the dead bodies of Taliban fighters could implicate those involved in war crimes, CNN reported on Wednesday.

The 39-second video posted on YouTube and TMZ.com appears to show combat-ready soldiers desecrating the remains of several bodies on the ground; it’s titled “Marines peeing on taliban.”

CNN said a Marine Corps official identified the soldiers as being from a sniper squad based on their equipment, including helmets and weapons. In extreme cases, an act such as urinating on a body could be construed as a war crime, the official told the network.

A user named “semperfiLoneVoice” uploaded the video to YouTube on Tuesday.

There are stupid soldiers who do disgusting things in every military. You shouldn't feel special.

That said... Ugh.

This kind of echoes Abu Ghraib. The U.S. military seems to act pretty shitty towards people it has control over.

If it was just taliban forces than I'm having a hard time caring. They're the clear bad guys and who didn't want to do something like this after 9/11 and finding out they were involved?

I'm still pretty pissed about the dog incident though.

Well, they shouldn't. It's unprofessional. But it should also be noted THAT THEY KILLED THEM AS WELL. And that's about as much of a shit as I care to give. If it was civilians I could muster slightly more outrage, but if they are real combatants then getting pissed on is the least of the things they need to worry about.

I agree. But the thing is that fucked up soldiers from other armies murder, torture and rape. All detestable, but actions that are not hard to comprehend. The twisted shit that comes out from the American army would confound the best of psychologists.

Shit like this doesn't arise from surging testosterone and hormone levels, needs of army intelligence gathering or war fatigue.

First I've heard.

It's war.

Why the hell should I care whether soldiers piss on their dead enemies? Bullets desecrate living bodies more than any piss does to a corpse.

Because they're not supposed to fuck with the bodies after confirmation of death.

You don't think their family will care if someone urinates on the corpse of their loved one?

They might care more that they have a corpse instead of a son. If they're worried about his 'honor' or whatever, he's not. Not anymore.

It's not classy but it's certainly not something to get outraged about. I'm not going to pretend I'm angry about this when the soldiers in question were from the damn Taliban.

Fixed.

There are people like this everywhere all throughout history. It's not a US military thing.

So what, I can't focus on one country? This act can only add fuel to the fire, and yes, the US military gets the most coverage when it comes to doing stupid stuff to people they kill, at least in the context of the current wars in the middle east, which is what I'm focusing on.

They are fighting and killing to eject an "enemy" whose stated intention is to get the fuck out of the country the second they stop fighting and killing people. So it may be more complicated than "bad guys" but they are still working against their own best interests in an attempt to further retard progress and democracy in one of the most backward regions of the planet.

So shooting them in the face is all good tho?

War, despite what people think, has rules. As military personal you're supposed to be obey the R.O.E. and be perfessonal at all times. What they did is consider unbecoming of Military personal is something that is taking very seriously.

Yeah, heaven forbid we try to hold our soldiers to higher standards. We should just start targeting civilians again. I mean, it happened in WW2 so we shouldn't try to stop it from happening.

Once again - it's war. If these were innocents I would be outraged. If this were the family members I'd be outraged.

But piss? AFTER putting bullets through faces and turning formerly living beings into torn meat? Yeah - I'm having a hard time seeing the problem outside of some sense of decency towards the enemy that one shouldn't really expect much of on a battlefield.

Uhh they are man. Did I just run into a Taliban defense force? I know the joke is we have one for everything here but I didn't think we had one for something this extreme.

We do hold them to standards. They should be reprimanded, but war crimes? Maybe if they strung them up and butchered them on camera, yes. But urinating on the bodies? Small stuff man.

But what does it accomplish? Just makes the rest of the world hate us more.

That's an incredibly simplistic view

No, of course not. That's just stupid. There is simply a U.S. military defense force that wishes to hold our soldiers up to a higher standard. This isn't honorable. "Fuck honor in war," right? Too bad, because the other side will always use it as an excuse to wage even more war, which is more reason why we shouldn't act this way.

I agree war crimes is a bit harsh. Personally I'd say a dishonorable discharge + large fine and/or short stint in jail.

No. None of this "GAF HAS A DEFENSE FORCE FOR EVERYTHING!" nonsense. The point of that comment was that disrespecting a body shouldn't be okay even if they're the enemy.

You really can't see the difference between the two?

I don't think the family cares about the pee as much as the dome shot..you can't see the difference between the two?

Don't get me wrong, it is really lame to kill someone and pee on them... but during war people do strange things.. and as long as the strange things aren't hurting non-combatants..
