MARIO + RABBIDS: Kingdom Battle |OT| XCOM on mushrooms

Fair to say that peach makes rappid peach almost redundant with aoe damage reduction and jump healing, no?

Not really, no.

Peach's heal jump doesn't reach the level of healing P. Rabbid gives with her ability. Sure, you can heal jump every turn, but late game when enemies hit you for 120+ damage, that's not gonna cut it.

And her shield thing actually makes her take a fraction of the damage intended to another character, so that they take less. The Valkyrie units do this.

However, both P. Rabbid and Peach is a better combo, as they can keep each other alive(and mario I guess) a long while.

May I recommend instead Rabbid Luigi, with a skill tree focused on his Vamp Dash?

With max tile movement, max dash damage, and max Vamp damage, hitting two enemies will usually get L. Rabbid back to full HP, or just shy of a few hit points to max.

And, he inflicts Vamp, which restores HP to any character who damages the target.

When you do a battle with a Smasher, that's the best way to go back to full HP.

Rabbid peach can do 4 consecutive dashes at 100 dmg a pop, which is pretty great. Non-jump healing is more flexible than jump healing imo, because you don't have to commit to movement to heal. Real peach has some fun AoE attacks, but the lack of an ordinary attack can be limiting if you aggressively target enemies (because your other characters will take damage as well).

I played most of the second half of the game with rabbid peach and rabbid yoshi (currently working on the ultimate challenges). I think her heal is more than adequate if the third team member is robust themselves. I played the two rabbids as alternating "tanks" as I worked through a map pretty successfully. I cleared most of the main game with perfects on my first or second try (except 4-8 which I resorted to rabbid Luigi for).

Until halfway through World 4, I was using Rabbid Luigi and Rabbid Mario because maximising their dash damage and movement range made it easy to take out groups of enemies.

Getting my ass handed to me on the midbosses for World 2. Unsure of the best way to handle them. I'm currently using Rabbid Peach and Luigi but thinking of subbing in Rabbid Luigi. What's the best way to be stacking the skill trees?

Same. Would love advice.

I managed it with Luigi and Rabbid Luigi on first try. Put some points into Rabbid Luigi's vamp dash abilities. Let Mario and Luigi's points mostly go into their steely stare/hero sight abilities. Boost Luigis health once though.
I'd suggest getting at least one of them on high ground for more damage. I got Luigi up there, then I focused on the earth enemy first, dashing into him every round with Rabbid Luigi and then healing up with all of them.
Never forget to dash/jump on enemies as often as possible before shooting, I know I sometimes do. It's extra health you get back when someone has vamp on them and without it my Luigi would've gone KO for sure.

What's also pretty good is using Luigi's mine as a decoy. Send it out without it exploding that turn. The enemy might attack it instead of one of you people and the next turn it will seek out the enemy anyway.

Also if one of your people is really low health always put one of the others out in the mid of the field without cover, usually the enemies focus that one then, regardless of his HP.

Got to the mid boss for world 1-S and coming in with Mario already at half-health is really kicking my butt....

Is there any way to actually heal up outside of combat?

I started the game today and I love it so far. The challenge in world 1 where you need to defeat 5 midbosses while there are three chain chomps is destroying me. The best I've managed was 4 kills before I lost a character. I had flawless performance until then.

Thanks for the advice? I switched out Luigi for Rabbid Luigi, then reset all my points. Focused on vamp for Rabbid Luigi, heal and Hero Sight for RPeach and Mario, respectively. Was able to beat them immediately. I used RPeach's sentry as a decoy, as you suggested and focused on the Earth one first. Hero Sight and vamp dashes did well to take out the smaller enemies running about.

Just did Ultimate Challenge 2 on about my sixth try. Dear god that was tough, and I dare say there was the odd stroke of luck in there. Managed it with Rabbid Peach and Rabbid Yoshi who I used as tanks pretty much. I found Luigi just way too fragile for such a challenge. The section with the last 6-8 enemies is insane.

Edit - wait just seen Ultimate Challenge 3. AHAHAHAHAHAHA. Fuck me.

For world 2 boss:
is there a way to game it so that you get him to take a party member you don't want? i tried experimenting a bit and it doesn't seem like it wants me to have luigi in the party, which maybe makes sense since luigi's long range and high movement would probably break the fight. other than that he only seems to take whatever party member is on mario's right in the cutscene

I was under the impression that
you just lost whoever's in the the third slow in your party. That's how it seemed to work to me, not that I did extensive testing.

My god, that difficulty spike at the world 2 boss. That was hard. It was fun to figure it out though.

Yes, indeed! I lost a few times against it yesterday (having got him down to just 7HP left); hopefully I'll clear it when I get the chance to get back to the game this evening.

Agree with those saying they hope it sells well and becomes a series. Would love to have more of these and it would also be interesting what other types of collaborations Ubisoft and Nintendo could come up with using Nintendo IP.

I'm currently towards the end of World 2 and it feels like the game is actually longer than I expected (which is great). For those that are deeper into the game, how long can we expect the full game to take with the challenges?

Had my first real error. Game force quit on me on the 2-2 special level. I restarted, redid the same moves and it shut down at exactly the same time. I had rabbid Mario slide explode the two guys standing on the furthest platform and stop in one of the goal zones. He did his dance on the move before. I then did a full shutdown and this time accessed the level through the washing machine (previously I came across it by walks the level). I did not do the dance which led to some changes but replicated the rest. No force quit. Will test further, but the fact it shut down twice on the same move was interesting.

Edit: won't be able to test for a bit but wanted to add that I'm on a cart and I haven't connected online since the day one patch installed.

Why isn't Peach's Castle / Overworld not on the soundtrack on spotify? It's my favorite take on Peach's Castle ever!
For whatever reason (probably some weird stipulation in the licensing agreement) none of the tracks that are rearrangements of preexisting Mario (and in the first boss's case, DK) tracks are present on any releases of the soundtrack.

It's actually really hard to say, I now understand why people were being so vague about how long the game is before release. Story mode is probably 15-20 hours if you don't hit many stumbling blocks. Including all the challenge levels, including the ultimate challenge levels you unlock after beating the game, you can easily double that figure I reckon.

That said, if you're having problems with some of the levels then how long is a piece of string? You can already see that just in story mode some people are having lots of problems with levels and bosses that other people aren't. Rest assured that there is a LOT of content. No-one will come out of this feeling short-changed.

Anyway, just did Ultimate Challenge 3 first time. It was epic in scale but definitely easier than the first two I think. Just one more challenge to go and it's all over :(

Went into 2-6 with 10 HP for Mario and walked out with a perfect. I retried a couple of times and finally got it. Mario rabbid and Luigi rabbid doing some work.

My 6 year old is having a blast with the game. I thought she wouldn't enjoy it because it's a strategy game, but she understands it enough to enjoy it- plus she's reading the dialogue (with my assistance). The only trouble she sometimes has is changing Shoot/move/characters and other abilities, but even I sometimes get confused with that.

You need to find a mushroom to heal outside of combat.

You can also use the "easy mode" option but I'm assuming you want to avoid that.

Did I mention that peek- a-boos are the fucking worst? Hey, let's make an enemy who can teleport himself, and has insane range and deals 90 damage per shot. Also let's give them vampiric. Oh, also they have the most insane skill you own team can get, magnetic dance, so you can't even get into cover when they don't flank you via teleport.

Fuck these things so hard.

Agreed as well. When I saw the trailer of this game my thoughts were "what the fuck are those ugly rabbid things" and "Mario can't even jump when he's moving around!?"

Then I saw the reviews, then I checked out some streams. Seeing the gameplay in action and how beautiful the game is, along with the GAF impressions, sold me so quick. I'm over halfway through World 2 and I'm having an absolute blast. I can't put it down. Really hoping to see some good sales, it deserves it!

That happens to me a lot also.
But in my case i started to use the left Joy-con buttons or pro controller d-pad to do that.
Up and down changes characthers and the left and right to choose the moves. For me it's a lot more intuitive.

Just started World 3 and getting a weird bug where the input delay on the A button is crazy long. It's really irritating

Game changer! After 10 hours I'm still messing up switching actions/character!

Just played for an hour and did all the intro fights. I can go back to levels later with new abilities right? Because I found blocks to push but hadn't learned that ability yet.

Yep, you'll unlock the ability to push blocks after beating the World 1 boss, so you can come back and find lots of treasure. There will also be new challenge missions you can find when you revisit World 1, as well as a secret chapter with new levels.

Cool. Right off the bat this has all the attention to detail and polish of a first party Nintendo title, very impressive.

Is the game always 3 party members?

Also I'm loving how the odds are 0% 50% 100%, none of this missing 80% shots all the time like in xcom.

Man I just created a crazy combo. I set both Marios and Luigi's stare/overwatch ability, fired a sniper shot at a smasher, that then bounced him triggering both special abilities which one ended up bouncing him again killing him in just one turn without moving!!! Amazing!!

EDIT: Wished the switch video capture feature was available to catch this!

Second fight of world 3-7 fucked me over several times, those fucking big rabbids doing 200 damage plus Vamp... damn

Yeah those big rabbids are actually stopping my perfect streaks. My usual rabbid luigi/rabbid mario combo doesn't work as well when these guys can punish you for being so close. The damage power up is pretty crazy.

I'm not done with World 3 yet, but looking back on the game so far, Mario + Rabbids has been EPIC. Feels like I've traveled to so many different places. Each of the worlds is just jam-packed with environmental variety, memorable moments, intoxicating atmosphere and eye-catching details. SO GOOD. Eager to dive into the fourth and final world!

I'm on 2-8 now and I'm still kinda confused about something: Do you lose your progress through a given chapter if you warp to Peache's Castle between battles? I've been super paranoid and have been only warping back whenever I make it to a new Chapter, but it's making things really inconvenient. Sometimes I just wanna do one battle and save and move on to other stuff with my day. :/

Just completed the last of the Ultimate Challenges so I'm done with the game now. Only got 97% of chests but there's no way I'm running through the worlds for the third time in a week looking for just a couple of chests.

The Ultimate Challenges were definitely tough but my Mario, Rabbid Peach, Rabbid Yoshi dream team got me through them ok. First Ultimate challenge took me 3 tries, second took me about 6 tries, third took me 1 try and the fourth took me 2 tries.

Although that doesn't sound like a lot of tries, these are easily the longest Challenges in the game. Screw up near the end of a challenge and you basically lose about 20-30 minutes of progress at least. I surprised myself with how well I did on the last one though; it had to be completed in under 30 turns and I did it in 21. The second Ultimate challenge was ball breakingly tough, easily the toughest in the whole game for me.

I probably won't be back for the first Challenge map pack but I'll definitely pick up the season pass once the story DLC is out. Fantastic game, definitely one of the best of the year so far.
