MARIO + RABBIDS: Kingdom Battle |OT| XCOM on mushrooms

Holy crap... $40?!?! If these things were Amiibo priced/Amiibo sized/actual Amiibo, I'd be all over them, but for $40... absolutely not.
There's a smaller version, looks exactly the same, same size of amiibos, same price.

Here's the big one in comparison with an Yarn Yoshi:

Hey, how and when can I play co-op?
You need to unlock the Buddy Dome first, I think it happens after you beat the first world (it's a structure shaped like a boxing glove on the left of the Castle).
You can play it just by using two Joy-Cons horizontally.

So I wonder why they aren't Amiibo, especially when the game has Amiibo support! I can think of two reasons.

1. Nintendo didn't allow it.
2. Ubisoft wanted full profits on the figurines.

Which do we think it is?

Probably concerns over ROI given that amiibos generally have a <20 dollar pricepoint. No guarantee that Rabbid amiibo would sell, so they might as well go full ham on a smaller run of more detailed figures.

I'll add a third one: they were probably late with submissions and deadlines for production.

For #1, they need to produce a minimum of 100,000 units, IIRC (according to a Steamworld Dig 2 interview at Gamescom). With the success of the game, that would be achievable.

Rabbid Luigi is the real MVP and there's really not much discussion to have on that topic.

I just need to stop saying "vape dash" instead of "vamp."

Has anyone had issues with the game just not launching? Sometimes I start the game, get the Switch logo but then it goes blank and the game doesn't launch. After restarting a number of times, replacing the game and rebooting the Switch, it will eventually start working.

Mario + Rabbid Mario + Rabbid Luigi is pretty overpowered. Max out on Mario's hero sight and dash damage, while maxing R. Luigi's vamp dash and R. Mario's explosive dash. The explosive dash is so strong with vamp dash because it's an AOE dash that hits for more than 100 damage per enemy. Combined with magnetic and a vamp shotgun, this setup just melts everything.

Oh shit. That happened to me too. I thought I was being a bit impatient when I saw the blank screen. I removed, reinserted, restarted it and it worked.

The more I play this game the more I like it.

It's mind boggling how it exists and how well it works. The Ubisoft team did a great job, especially since first reactions were less then enthusiastic about it.

I've played through both modern XCOM games multiples times, but I seem to totally suck at this game. I'm only part of the way into world 2 but I'm just getting my butt kicked. Are there certain skills that are must haves? I feel like I screwed up along the way.

You can respec anyone for free, at any time.

I like the movement skills since they add a lot of flexibility. You don't have many choices so early in the game though.

I find that it's helpful to think of this as a puzzle game and make the most of each and every turn. Avoid being in situations where you're forced to fire at an in-cover enemy, abuse the hell out of the crazy movement system, and never forget to run into enemies if you're in range (it's 100% free damage).

Halfway through world 3. Loving the game and I think my complaints (mostly minor) line up what with others are saying, namely that I wish you could either have 4 people in your party in 1P or if it at very least didn't force you to use Mario. The battles here are based on 3 players for sure, just would like to mess around with more variety.

I am getting pretty tired of the block puzzles and stuff in between levels though.

This game is lacking a lot of the more frustrating stuf from XCOM's metagame. Really glad I don't have to worry about positioning a rookie in some stupid spot just so he can get the kill shot for XP, don't have to worry about speccing wrong, or putting time into the 'wrong' research. The game doesn't need a full blown strategy layer like XCOM, but I wish it did have something a little more compelling than solving block puzzles to unlock 3D models.

I think I need to start saying vape dash.

Just got done with World 2 challenges. Peach can be a beast. Shotgun blast a huge group of enemies, it crits, triggers her overwatch and she blasts them all again. Take out 3 shield bearers with one action.

I do wish they didn't limit the teams as much. You should be able to have at least 4 characters later in the game and you should be able to configure your team however you want. The whole Mario has to be your team leader and that you have to have at least one Rabbid sucks.

I finished the main campaign last night. Quite an interesting game. Wondering if we'll see any kind of sequel or something.

I see people already discussing this game being a success, do we know how well its doing already?

I'm at the world 1 boss. This game is amazing. I don't have a big history with thist type of turn based game, but I'm completely sucked into the mechanics of this one and I love figuring out how to make the most out of a single turn. I haven't had any issues getting perfects in the fights so far, but I'm prepared for that to change.

At first the big rabbids were kinda scary, but I love how you can get them into this deadlock if you space your partymembers out: they can only move 4 tiles, so if you fire at a distance with one guy and then another, they just stumble from one party member to the next without being able to do anything. With some slide damage these guys can be toast fast.

The exploration is also pretty well done considering these are mostly small areas. Looking for extras can be useful since there's a chance you actually get a weapon or power orbs. All in all it's a fun palate cleanser to balance out the fights.

Very impressed with this game. If this keeps up it'll bump Nioh as my goty so far.

I just got past the world 3 midboss, surprisingly on my first try, this game keeps getting better and better. Mario + Luigi are the GOATS with the hero shot+steely stare but those
teleporting dudes
are the worst :( Stop avoiding my auto killer shots!

Not quite. You get a total of 1500 power orbs, while what characters actually need to max out varies from ~1600-1900 depending on who it is.

Thanks. I was rather hoping that
it would be possible - but I'm sure that I'll be able to find a few skills that I can do without.

Just finished watching the ending.
Fucking lol at the swerve with the Rabbid Peach statue and then Beep O being F.B.

I expected the ending was going to be Spawny undoing the merges and the Rabbids returning to the real world. I prefer this one though since it keeps this weird version of the Mario universe around for a sequel.

So you want to play Mario+Rabbids, but without Mario+Rabbids? :-)

Just started this game this afternoon and I'm loving it.

I really wish the loading screen images were available as wallpapers. They're great!

I'm doing that thing I do in every Mario game where I go the completionist route and burn myself out by the end. Why am I like this.

Been playing this game with my son. We love it! Can't believe he totally stopped playing Splatoon. Wish there was more multiplayer but it's great.

One of the best little touches in this game has to be the different overworld elements from the different worlds that get added (some more gracefully than others) to the hub as you progress through the story. Some of them are even pretty decently hidden.

Holy shit the difficulty spike from world 1 to world 2 doesn't fuck around. Getting my ass handed to me now. Is there a decent strategy against the big Rabbids with the stone slab that take like 60 hp away? Those guys suck. I dash them and run away but they just pummel me

So how can i heal my party members between battles?

Find a mushroom. I think that's the only way, aside from using easy mode.

Ditto from world 2 to 3, perhaps even more so - and from what I've read here from others, then again from world 3 to world 4.

Try to keep your distance from the smashers if you can, but if you're unavoidably close, using dash attacks won't trigger a counterattack. I focused on upgrading dash attacks as a result.

Just completed all of World 2 including getting perfect for all chapters, challenges, all chests and the secret chapter, before tackling World 3. This is definitely the best way to play, the Hard challenges were just right in terms of difficulty. I hope there's another big spike for World 3, W2 got a bit too easy towards the end.

Also, how do I get Tarot cards? are those a postgame thing?

Also I realized I'm not very good at this game based on trying the challenge stages in world 1. First one said it was "very easy". Kill 14 in 3 turns. Yeah that's not very fucking easy lol

Damn I was hoping there was something more that I was missing. That's what I've been trying to do lol

It's pretty easy. Upgrade some weapons and you can 1 shot most if not all of the enemies, use dash/stomp constantly and remember your bonus actions.
