Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut is coming next week [Up: Out now, my sweet]

The endings are better. Maybe I am bitter, but it is a shame that there needed to be a huge out-cry for these to be reworked. I mean, you would think that the people who actually created these stories and characters would care more about what happened to all these characters and where they ended up than the fans. Instead of just phoning home the original ending and doing color swaps to make them seem like the different choices.

It seems they were too caught up on focusing on freaking multiplayer and additional content to that. Bioware has truly not been the same since moving to EA. Hopefully all this has been a wake up call to them.

Just started the download, 2 GB was more than I was expecting. But from a quick look at impressions here this doesn't do much to help the ending, haha.

I'd be pleased too if Bioware/EA was paying me money to write bullshit posts like this.

2.5 hours?

Did you read that right off the list of bulletpoints in the email they sent you?

What the hell is your problem? O_o

Yes, it took me about 2,5 hours to play through the cerberus base again, fight on earth and view the ending. I even skipped the final conversations with my teammates before leaving for the final battle. Seems like I missed some more changes thanks to that. :-(

I hated the original ending, but not because of the direction the story of Mass Effect took, but rather the lackluster way it was told. This is a good story that was initially told incredibly bad on it's final stretch. I wanted Bioware to fix it, I expected to be terribly disappointed once again, but as it turned out, Bioware actually did their homework.

And pleased rest assured, this is my honest opinion.

The comments in here are exactly what i expected they would be prior to the release of the DLC. Can't wait to see the EC after work.

Didn't the lead writer kick out all the other writers and wrote all of the ending himself without listening to anyone else?

fixed it one more time for you.

PS. "lazy dev" is among the worst things on gaming GAF.

You're right...not fair. I'm sure people worked hard on what they worked on.

At some point though, someone gave it all a green light and said "Good enough. Ship it."

I don't know what descriptor one might use for that but I suppose "lazy" isn't it.

Why did it take so long for them to release this extended cut? All the endings had the same exact sequence and pictures basically but with a different monologue.

Nothing has changed, you could have loaded your save from on teh catalyst ship, all we got were some new cutscenes

Their team was probably way smaller than the one that worked on the game and they created nearly 2gb of new content.

It's not as easy or fast as it may seem.

Then this whole extended cut was a waste of everyone's time.

Squashed man = kid
Stock photo from internet with a little photoshop = Alien race
each ending just being a color swap

Bioware is a fucking lazy dev.

Sure, some decisions they did was questionable, but can you really call a whole team lazy when they did nice stuff like the Tuchanka and Rannoch missions? The Ardat-Yakshi monastery? The Grunt/Rachni mission? Those werent "lazy".

This was shit. Just polishing a turd. It's a mixture of funny pictures that was created after the game released and a slideshow. This shit is shit.

They were pretty short...

Pretty short? They all have the usual ME mission length.

But i admit that ME3 quality is a big rollercoaster, some very highs, some very lows, some decent, some high, some low.

I guess that's what happen when you have so many people working on only some parts of the game instead of the whole thing.

I immediately posted my impressions here after finishing the extended cut.

I just read through this thread to see why my good impressions were immediately attacked by other obviously deeply disappointed players.

It seems like many people hoped for a totally new ending. I never expected that. Yes, you could argue that the whole ending isn't really that good.

It's just that I never dared to hope for more than a revised ending that is better told, features way fewer plotholes and actually explains what the hell is going on and how your actions impact your friends and the galaxy. And I think Bioware succeeded in that.

I agree: This probably wasn't the best direction for the final act of the saga in the first place. But at least I can live with the way this story is presented in the extended cut. Maybe it's still far from perfect, but it's definitely a big improvement.

What does "2gb of new content" even mean? Nothing. File size means nothing in terms of weighing meaningful content. One guy can edit a shitty video from existing content and compress it poorly and it could be a gig. A team of people can also work on a 30 hour RPG for 2 years, and it could only be 8meg.

I love how the new
Refusal ending
is basically a fuck you to all the people who complained.

What a major ass retcon in all the other endings though.

Hm, the Extended Cut can be "bought" for 0 points on Origin now, but it's still "unreleased".

I wonder when it will start downloading.

I spent twice their length hunting shit on the Citadel and playing recycled multiplayer maps.

EDIT: EXTENDED CUT UP FOR PC!!!

EDIT: "NOT RELEASED YET" FOR PC!!! YOU CAN PRE-LOAD IT!

Did i mention running around the Citadel and multiplayer maps? No.

I ain't downloading shit.

The extended cut is basically another color swapped ending with a few differences. It has the same slideshow for each ending with the synthesis adding green glowing eyes and circuitry lines.

Didn't they say that you would have to load a save file from right before the attack on the cerberus base?

I'd be quite pissed if it turns out I could have skipped that after all!

Hey, they're not aggressively stupid any more!

Now two (refusal and destroy) are aggressively mediocre, and the other two are aggressively hokey!

What gets me is the
completely retconned mass relay explosions. It just reeks of Walters going "Oh, yeah now I remember that I wrote the supernova bit into Arrival and the the codex explicitly states that they are too advanced to be tampered with or rebuilt. Yeah well... they never actually exploded though."

While I understand fans often become more in tune with the intricacies of a given universe's lore than the original creator (i.e. Blizzard and the red shirt guy), it is just poor form to have so many holes accumulate in one single 10 minute span. The fact that most of them were retconned just goes to prove that Walters has a hard time keeping the lore of the ME universe sorted out (or maybe he just doesn't give a shit).

Also, Forbes just posted this article covering the EC:

Some people are blindly trying to find significance off of this shitty release.
