A friend of mine asked to post this here for him, guys. I thought it was interesting, so here you go:
Hello everyone. This is not Insane Metal, as everyone would think, but a friend of him from a Brazilian Game Forum. I am more known as Pistolero sem-dedo.
Some days ago, when Max Payne 3 was announced, we here in Brazil got very excited with the news that the game will take place in São Paulo, the Biggest city of our country. Rapidly, I made a post guessing and discussing the places that the game would show, and how the game will not lose the so remarkable Noir feeling of the series.
In the middle of the arguments, the Brazilians that visit the Neogaf forum reported that some people of here were saying some absurd things, like the game will take place in the middle of the jungle. As soon as I saw that, I had the idea to make a post for Neogaf to show to you some of the São Paulo culture and way of living, and why this city was chosen to be the place of Max Payne 3.
Well, as you saw in the Game Informer issue, one of the places the story will happen is in some favelas of São Paulo. The City is a very contrastant one, very rich and very poor people live side by side. The photo below, for example, shows the Paraisópolis Favela, and the big differences of acquisitive power the São Paulo Society has, showing why the developers had to make a Favela in the game:
There is also the heliopolis favela. It is the biggest of the world.
Well, São Paulo is not made only of favelas, and to be sincere, favelas dont have a Noir feeling. What I really hope is that the favela level, showed in the Issue of Game Informer, is only one of the places the story will occur.
The City has a lot of places that reminds the places Max visited in the late games. One of these places in São Paulo is Cracolandia (Crack Land, in a literal translation). The Cracolandia is a conglomerate of blocks in the old downtown of São Paulo that is dominated by the crack traffic, and in the middle of day junks addicted to this drug use it on the sideways and alleys:
If Max really hit the bottom of misery in his life, he is living in Cracolandia.
Near Cracolandia there is a very infamous building, the Edifício São Vito. It is a series of apartments that nowadays is abandoned. Buns, Junks, addicteds and Drug Trafficants live in this building, considered the biggest vertical slums of the World. Its incredible how this building screams for a level of Max Payne 3. It got more even more fame a few years ago, when the mayor of that time (Marta Suplicy) called a demolition team to destroy São Vito, because it blocked the view of the window of her office. In the end, the demolition never occurred, and the mayors office moved to other building. Below there is some photos of São Vito:

The old downtown of São Paulo resides some other places that could appear in MP3. One of them is the Santa Ifigenia Avenue. At day, its a huge black-eletronics market (my X360 came from there), and at night is populated by low price prostitutes and porn theaters.
The monastery São Bento, where the pope stayed in his visit in São Paulo. It is in the Santa Ifigenia avenue to!
Santa Ifigenia Bridge Noir Style
The Max Payne series doesnt always shows horrible places. Remembering the games, the final levels always happens in big mannors or office buildings, in the heart of the financial neighbors of New York. São Paulo has places like this to. Below you can see the view of some financial neighbors of São Paulo:
So, as you can see, we dont live in the middle of the jungle like a lot of people thought. São Paulo is considered the 3rd biggest city of the world, and is very similar to New York in a variety of ways. Before I forget, sadly there is other bad thing of our city that I didnt mention. The subway system. It is the most populated subway of the world (yes, it surpasses the Chinese and Japanese in quantity of people per square meters). Some photos to illustrate it:
