McConnell delays vote on healthcare bill

The WH hasn't really been involved with the Senate bill much at all. It's been a very different situation from all the arm-twisting they did to get the House bill passed.

The time the WH stepped in it only made it worse because of what they pulled with Heller.

Its gonna be hilarious when Obamacare remains the law of the land, 8yrs of running on it and they can't touch it

When this is the actual reality, then we can relax and even then we must stay ever vigilant because fascism is a dangerous enemy.

The question is how bad do they want tax cuts? I remember a GOP guy saying they were willing to pile on debt and the economy's growth will blah blah blah...

I could actually see the House sighing a breath of relief if Democrats regain it if only because they can go back to not having to worry about their vote changing anything.

It's not the official name. The GOP specifically branded it as such so it would forever be hated by party. Unfortunately for them Obama actually went out extremely well liked so even saying they are getting rid of obamacare can't raise the approval of this bill much

I know, it was a joke..

If they had any sense, they'd see this development as a serendipity, not a setback. Move on.

McConnell's reputation is sorta on the line for this, so I can see why he'd want to get it through.

Of course, polls say he's the least popular politician in the US anyway.

Geriatric Evil Turtle!
Geriatric Evil Turtle!
Geriatric Evil Turtle!
Taking away health care.
Rich guy tax cuts!

Here's hoping this keeps getting pushed back until it's too close to midterms for them to get the votes.

So McCain got a delay because his surgery was under ACA, right?

I know it's not, of course. But that the vote on this is delayed due to surgery is definately ironic in some way.

"Better Care Act". Right, because striking over ten million from the rolls and increasing costs for almost everyone is so much better.

BIG NEWS: Two more Senators, Lee and Moran, are nos on Trumpcare. Strong rumor.

If it sticks, it's a new ball game. WH meeting now.

McCain wants to start all over.

“One of the major problems with Obamacare was that it was written on a strict party-line basis and driven through Congress without a single Republican vote. As this law continues to crumble in Arizona and states across the country, we must not repeat the original mistakes that led to Obamacare’s failure,” he said in a statement from Arizona, where he is recovering from surgery.

“The Congress must now return to regular order, hold hearings, receive input from members of both parties, and heed the recommendations of our nation's governors so that we can produce a bill that finally provides Americans with access to quality and affordable health care.”

McCain’s statement comes after GOP Sens. Jerry Moran (Kan.) and Mike Lee (Utah) announced on Monday night they will not support taking up a bill repealing and replacing ObamaCare, effectively blocking the legislation.

Holy shit, the surgery worked.

And who's fault was that?

It's really adorable watching the Republicans acting now as if they weren't dead set against affordable health care for all Americans from day one, because as we know the only devil that exists to them are entitlements for the working class and poor. They did everything in their power to sabotage and defund the ACA so sitting back now and acting as if they're being forced negotiate a plan with the Democrats to save the system they broke is the height of hypocrisy... or just another day in Republicantown.

McCain, Graham and a few others have been spouting that all along, they just don't put their votes where their mouth is

They can still strangle the ACA via other means
Yeah. They're gonna focus on making sure Obamacare doesn't work for as many people as they can for the next few years. "Aww man. Your premiums went up again! Damn Obamacare. We really should just get rid of that thing (and give myself a tax break at the same time. Muwahahahaha!)"

I love the irony of delaying the bill while McCain is in the hospital using government provided healthcare.

When this hail mary fails the next move will be to shore up the ACA. Unlike Trump, the GOP knows they are on the hook for its failure

The subsidy issue Trump has been using for blackmail will almost certainly be fixed in the debt ceiling or spending bill. The GOP is going to pass a sham party-line spending bill but they openly admit that they don't expect it to pass the Senate and want people to vote for it regardless of its contents

This is a complete lie. Obamacare was not "driven" through congress without a single Republican vote. Off the top of my head there were over 182 Republican amendments to the bill and countless Republican led committee hearings. It was done of the course of around a year and remember there was an extensive nationally broadcasted hearing over Obamacare.

I thought about making this post but I've given up. Keep on fighting the good fight

Yep, the pressure is off so now he can pretend to give a shit.
