I got 3 stitches yesterday on the back of my head. Doc's resident and the nurse said the ocean (salt water) was fine for swimming, just not the pool, but to wait at least 24 hours first. Tomorrow it will be over 48 hours.

Just to be on the safe-side, has anyone ever encountered any problems with swimming in the ocean with stitches? I would assume the salt water would speed up the healing process seeing how it's only 3 stitches.

I think the commonly accepted advice for any medical related questions on GAF is:

Go to the emergency room.

So yeah, take that for what you will.

sharks will smell that and fuck you the fuck up.

Nah Brah, I usually swim with an old man who can keep up quite well. I'll swim on the inside and if I see a shark coming, I'll let it eat him while I make my escape.

That's right. Real men get staples.

Pool water would normally be harmful but you're talking about swimming at the beach with three stitches? You should be fine.

What beach is it and where are your stitches situated if you don't mind me asking?

It's right on the back of my scalp, about 3 inches under the crown. I go to North Miami beach and end at Hallandale beach, where I have a place.

Wouldn't salt water speed up healing time? Go for it, dude.

That's what I figure. Every time I've had a wound and gone in the ocean it's healed much, much faster.
