OMG!!

Sony's products falling.

Nintendo's products rising.

Microsoft's products rising.

I can hear them coming... :D

Anyways, good sales for Pac Pix and Meteos being the niche titles they are. And StarFox at 125,000? Woah.

OMG! TEH MOMENTUM IS ON TEH NINTENDO'S SIDE. Soon the DS will take over the psp at this rate. PSP am doomed. :p

I am too ready to sleep to go into my usual overanalysis right now, but the biggest bit of news is that this puts PSP's Media Create total over 1 million. More specifically: 1,018,728 to DS's 1,902,695.

It's obvious that the only reason that PSP was selling so well is because of the prolonged effect of the launch shortage. Now that the launch demand had tapered off, we are beginning to see the that the demand for the system is not too hot...

Oh wait.....

Yeesh, the lead was 1 Million in January. The PSP hasn't gained as much ground as I thought it did.

If GBA SP sales reach 20K a week again, it really won't matter.
That hasn't happened since 01/03-01/09 and I suspect it won't until it sees a price drop there. BTW when do the new DS colours launch?

The PSP hasn't exactly overtaken the DS, but I don't think anyone expected it would. Just the fact that it's been selling better than the DS for all of 2005 is impressive to me.

Actually, I think it's been outselling the DS for longer, but I can't be bothered to find any 2004-numbers.

I don't think this trend started until mid-January. It happened earlier on the Media-Create Charts than it did on that other one.

The first time the PSP outsold the DS on the MC chart was during the week of 01/10-01/16 and it has every week since then (which is 9 weeks now).

Next Thursday (24th).

It's interesting that neither Pac Pix nor Meteos caught on in a big way. Maybe they'll sell well in the long run, but not a good start, and they're both about to get trampled on by Kirby.

I've always wondered, but why are the hardware sales so consistent each week?

I mean assuming at this point there are no stock shortages, how come exactly 44-48k people by a PSP and 24-28k people buy a DS each week. I mean you would think that every few weeks it would range and 50% of the people bought a system a week early and you'd get 66k then 22k the next week or just some variation.

It's just odd...

Famitsu puts DS at much closer selling rates with PSP. I do wonder if these numbers are accurate, it's almost too consistent to believe.....

Fun with stats:

DS and PSP sales numbers have been pretty level since the week of 2/6. PSP averages 44.8K and DS averages 26.2K per week since then. If these rates were to hold (i.e. I'm engaged in a hypothetical scenario here), DS will reach 2 million units sold in another 3.7 weeks (2nd week of April) and PSP will reach 2 million in 21.9 weeks (3rd week of August).

These numbers won't stay stable for months on end. If the ratio stays the same (PSP outselling DS by nearly 2:1 every week), then it will catch up much faster when the hardware market is more active.

The majority of the gap will be made up during the holiday season. By that time, the gap will be disappearing by the 100k...

You don't know that for sure; there are so many DS games that still need to come out that have traditionally sold systems, and the gap can widen again with the release of the proper game or a price drop.

Nintendogs + color NDSes should boost NDS sales into the 30K-40K for next week, and hopefully continue like that for a while. I'm predicting that word of mouth of Nintendogs is going to have it be the next big seller on NDS. Is there much advertisement of it over there yet?

DS will sell by the bucket load next week
The japanese will go mad for the new colours. GBA SP sales always went sky high on relase of a new colour.
Also, some people wanting one may of been waiting for a new colour batch?

Also Kirby is out this week...

All three versions of Nintendogs will be available April 21st for 4800 yen each in Japan.

I wish I had the choice of that ash black DS. The DS just looks better in black, whereas the SP looked better in silver.

Nintendogs ... I have no idea how this could do. In some ways I think its almost the most important DS game Nintendo will release this year outside of Pokemon DS. It'll say a lot as to how consumers feel about the type of gaming Nintendo is trying to push with the DS.

It could be a Tamagotchi craze or it could fall by the wayside.

I could've sworn Nintendo was going to release Nintendogs with the colored NDSes? My bad.

Nintendo is releasing two rounds of new DS colors, ash black and ice white in a few days (with Kirby?), and electric blue and pink in April alongside Nintendogs.

i'm as straight as a die. But that pink DS am GORGEOUS!
they should of released that with Kirby though and done a bundle deal???

Yeah you'd figure they'd release the pink DS with Kirby, but maybe they hoping that girl's will be more attracted to a "non-game" like Nintendogs, which I admit probably has high appeal to girls.

Come on, NoA, give us colors too.

They should release red, white, blue, and pink for us. American colors + girly appeal.

Next week should be very interesting. Colors can do wonderful things for handheld sales and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see DS over 40k, maybe quite a bit over.

Yup. I'm betting it will be the first week DS outdoes PSP since its nine week wall charge.

That table would be good if it wasn't for the fact that you have the wrong PSP total for the week of 01/17-01/23. That week the PSP sold 66,543 units (go back and check my correction in that thread). It seems like I've pointed this mistake to you a few times.
