Great first 3 pages in this thread :lol

:lol

It's funny how tools come in week after week complaining how everyone is a nfan and masturbates to sales and only since Easter started has "accepted" PSP sales as being "okay."

Well at least the Sonyboys aren't gloating this time around, perhaps they have learned their lesson after doing all that gloating when PSP was out-selling the DS weekly in the first place. Maybe when Easter resumes we can all finally have peace...

What am I saying, even if some people stop gloating there will always be someone to start and always be someone to say all fanboys masturbate to sales. How sad.

reason why PSP finally outsold the DS

Good. More PSP's out there = more potential software sales.

It's nothing changed though. PSP sold as much as it did last week. It's only the DS numbers that changed.

PSP has been doing pretty decent this entire time with hardware sales, it's just no one noticed because DS was doing so well and you're all nbots.
Actually, I think anyone is willing to admit the PSP has been selling well over the holidays.

PSP - 132,757
DS - 91,379
PS2 - 80,886
GBASP - 17,443

GBM - 11,818
Xbox360 - 7,477
GBA - 564
Xbox - 156

Nice to see PSP numbers actually increased this week!

<DS Fans> GO DS!
<Media Create> What's this? The DS has walked off the track for a smoke break in the middle of the race!
<Izzy> Hey! The PSP just passed the DS' position! THE TIDE IS TURNING!
<sonycowboy> Nintendo only sold half the PSP this week!
<Japanese Storefronts> goddamnit, get running again so we can have product to put on our shelves

*Oh snap!* :lol

Don't think Fuzzy posted the English notes so here they are:

Sales of the top 100 titles totaled 2,074,647 units, 76.81% of last week's total. None of the new titles launched this week took spots in the top 100, and the market was thus completely centered on existing titles. DS titles in particular performed well, and eight of the top ten software titles were DS titles.

DS made impressive gains in the hardware market as well, and was so popular that a series of stores ran out of stock. This developed to the point that Nintendo made a formal apology for the DS shortages. Partially due to this, total DS sales fell significantly compared to the previous week of 355,904 units, or 56.29% of last week's result.

Sales results for the same week the previous year (Week 1, January) were 1,358,355 units for software and 388,465 units for hardware. The software market expanded compared to the previous year, and if there had not been shortages of DS results for hardware would certainly have risen year-on-year as well. It thus appears that this year has gotten off to a strong start.

Did anyone think we'd get Xbox numbers in 2006?
If Media Create thinks it makes sense to track down Xbox sales which are ~150 every week, what does this mean about the other consoles?
Will we see GBA numbers throughout 2007?
GBA SP / GBM / GCN numbers throughout 2008?
PS2 numbers throughout 2009?

And what do you expect first - the Xbox 360 dipping into triple-digit sales for the first time or Xbox selling less than 100 units permanently?
If the first were case, we could see numbers that look like this:
Xbox360 -981
Xbox - 117
That would seem quite humiliating for MS... I guess that's the reason why we still get Xbox numbers, after all. :lol

This line is confusing me.
I already addressed that, MC made a typo and meant total HW sales fell significantly compared to the previous week.

The continued presence of the Xbox on the charts show that companies like Media Create have quite a sense of humor.

"Look, Moore-san! We CAN count after all!"

Ah. Still might be wise to post them on the latest page so no one misses it. :)

Those Japanese, if they'd just held off buying just 50,000 DS's that one week when the DS sold over 600,000, then there'd still be enough DS's left on the shelf for it to beat the PSP! But no, they just had to be greedy and buy up all the DS's. Now I fear the momentum is shifting. Nintendo = teh D00m3d!!

You know, I don't think that we should give the PSP this victory anyway. How about when the new shipments arrive, we just spread them out all over January since the DS would have beaten the PSP if there were more. ;)

Why do I always end up doing charts while drunk?

I'll do a december-jan one to start over during the weekend.

Easter isn't over, a stock shortage doesnt count.

Thats like saying that Jesus was a loser for 3 days just because he was murdered and sealed in a cave.

As soon as they get stock back in, DS (Jesus) will roll the stone aside and kick everyones ass again.

It will be interesting to see Famitsu DS hardware numbers for this week since Dengeki and MC differ that much. Anyway, for the two week period 12/19 - 1/1 Famitsu had these numbers:
DS 1,022,943 (!)
PSP 245,747
PS2 167,629
GBASP 56,308
GC 42,802
GBM 31,099
X360 20,070

Also I just have to post the complete PSP/DS chart for this week since DS didn´t do that well...

that chart is amazing!

the software chart says easter is still on. The more PSP hardware that is sold and the less PSP games sold, the more...

The difference is DS not being an eloquent paranoid schizophrenic who believed to be the son of the mixture of an inexistent God and his adulteress mother, ending his life condemned to death, being the main character of the most best-selling book worldwide, and leading millions of people to ages of darkness, misknowledge and opression.

BTW, DS is a great console :lol

Sad but true.
Edit: anyway, this board is not about religion. More photoshop please :D

What is Blue Dragon's release date already? This 2 weeks figure is insanely low. O_O

Here's a question: can someone (Fuzzy?) give us the "sold to date" totals for each of those systems, kind of like what is done for the games? If there's only rounded numbers for a few or no numbers at all, that's fine, but as many as possible would be extremely helpful.

Just out of curiousity but how popular are mmorpgs in Japan? I know its an absolute craze in Korea, but thats a very different environment.

I've always had the impression that the internet hasn't quite taken off in Japan the same way it has in the West, and most internet access over there is mostly via mobile phones so its very different to the way we use the net.

Anyone know better?

Do you think xbox 360 will see a big boost once it gets its token RPGs and Biohazard games? Maybe enough to be an actual contender?

Think about it. the DS has sold some gigantic number of consoles since launch. How many people in japan could actually be considered a market for a portable console, and of those how many already have one? We may have hit a point where everyone who wants a DS has one, and we'll start to see sales decline as a result.

Oh my god :lol

Not saying that sales won't decline as I do think that it's nearly impossible to sell another ~4.15m this year in Japan, but I do think that DS will have a fantastic 2006 with hardware sales of about 3.5m.

I'm 95% sure you weren't being serious when you posted this.

heh. just another toss off theory to go with the rest. It is an interesting question from an economic perspective though. How big is the potential market for a product like this anyway? What kinds of numbers were they expecting to make, and what are they looking at now after their phenomenal christmas season? Raw sales data is very interesting unto itself, but i'd love to hear what Nintendo and Sony market analysts have to say from their own viewpoints.

As for me, i bought both upon arriving in japan, so it's just an idle curiosity =)

Ridicoulous.

If a machine sells like Nintendo DS - so fast, and with a peak of 600.000 - and break all records, it is impossible that his sales go down so fast, and in just a week.

It's clear that there's stocks shortages.

If you had right, the PS2 wouldn't have cumulate 2 millions machines in 2005 anymore.

The question is how the market sees the Nintendo DS. If Nintendo is right then one part of the market (the gamers) see it as a 'successor' to the GBA and therefore it has a potential of selling to 15m+ GBA owners. And then there is the 'non gamer' part of the market, which (again, if Nintendo is right) will (or already has) be interested in this handheld cause of (non) games like Nintendogs or Brain Training and then perhaps even buy 'traditional' games like Mario Kart, Seiken Densetsu or whatever.
I do think that DS has proven that it is able to catch the GBA audience and I also do think that DS has proven that it is able to catch the non gamers, so a user base of 15m+ should be expected (if they don't release a successor really early).
