but that just me :\

The everything multiplatform argument only works when the consoles are similar in power and controls. Otherwise you just end up being rather silly in demanding that a publisher waste time and effort shoe-horning ports to every system imaginable.

Nintendo doen't seem to have a problem getting the biggest games. In Monster Hunter and Dragon Quest they've secured major new entries in 2 of the big 3 third party series in the country, which is more than can be said for any other post-PS2 platform. Though DS comes close with both a new Dragon Quest and high profile FF remakes.

However, people do tend to want a liiiittle something in between the biggest games.

Next five weeks (3/16-22, 23-29, 3/30-4/6, 7-13, 14-16)

PS3 - 22K - 18K - 16K - 16K - 85K (or more)
WII - 18-20K
360 - 6-8K

With those numbers, and lets be "nice" and say 360 will have 8k for all 5 weeks, 360 will break 1 mill at the same week PS3 will break 3 mill.

And both still going down

July 2006: PS2 "Powerful Pro Baseball 13 live" about 8.4 thousand
July 2007: PS2 "Powerful Pro Baseball 14 live" about 8.0 thousand
July 2008: PS2 "Powerful Pro Baseball 15 live" about 5.1 thousand
March 2009: PS2 "Powerful Pro Baseball 2009 live" about 2.6 thousand

July 2007: Wii "live baseball powerful Wii" about 2.1 thousand
July 2008: Wii "Powerful Pro Baseball 15 live" about 1.6 thousand
March 2009: Wii "powerful live baseball NEXT" Approximately 1.5 thousand

Pawapuro audience is now on DS and PSP. Where's Pawapuro Portable 4 is the question.

It's just a reskin of the Budokai games with some removed attacks (like the generic ki blasts). It probably will give losses anyway, especially considering the movie license, but they won't be too big.

Is there a reason that the hardware numbers are in the order they're in? I can't understand how they're ordered to be honest. Unless it's a "Hey PSP and DS always outsell everything else so I can't be bothered to reorder the rest."

Looking at it a little further, I guess it's by LTD this gen. Nevermind.

Sonic Unleashed got a fantastic reception and sold 2 million worldwide. Hence, this system is fantastic.

Apparently, they only shipped 10k for Brandish, so 5k isn't too bad.
Vantage Master Portable did 3k first day and 16k first two weeks (its combined because it was a golden week release).
Gurumin did <4k first week (not in the top30, so 4k at best).
Zwei!! did 7,700 first week.

Its not close to the LoH Sora no Kiseki games though:
FC did 15k first week
SC did 26k first week
3rd did 49k with a 20k first day
The set containing all three did 10k first week
Material Collection Portable did 3600 first week
FC&SC Kanzenban did 3100 first week with 1k first day

This was hard to find...

edit: I doubt anyone will cheer for it, so...go amagami! :D

Based on the latest Famitsu hardware numbers...
PSP comparisons: After 222 weeks, PSP is where PS2 was at 174.1 weeks (June 30, 2003), where DS was at 98.2 weeks (October 16, 2006), and where GBA was at 149.8 weeks (January 31, 2004).

X360 comparisons: After 170 weeks, X360 is where GCN was at 16.4 weeks (January 2, 2002), where PS3 was at 34.2 weeks (July 2, 2007), and where Wii was at 5.0 weeks (December 31, 2006).

PS3 comparisons: After 122 weeks, PS3 is where PS2 was at 39.7 weeks (December 1, 2000), where PSP was at 61.3 weeks (February 7, 2006), where GCN was at 119.7 weeks (December 26, 2003), and where Wii was at 32.3 weeks (July 10, 2007).

I think that's an interesting combination. The X360/PS3 hardware numbers now are very much where the PS3/Wii hardware numbers were a year and a half ago.

Wii comparisons: After 119 weeks, Wii is where GBA was at 94.0 weeks (January 5, 2003), where DS was at 75.8 weeks (May 13, 2006), where PS2 was at 112.9 weeks (April 27, 2002), and where PSP was at 163.4 weeks (January 22, 2008).

DSi comparisons: After 19 weeks, DSi is where GBASP was at 39.5 weeks (November 13, 2003) and where DSL was at 12.6 weeks (May 25, 2006).

Based on the latest Media Create hardware numbers...
DS vs PSP: Weekly shares of 47.4 / 52.6 bring total shares to 68.6 / 31.4. At this week's rates, PSP catches up to DS in 3,259.4 weeks (September 2, 2071). If DS stopped selling and PSP continued at this week's rate, it would catch up in 324.6 weeks (June 4, 2015).

X360 vs PS3: Weekly shares of 23.0 / 77.0 bring total shares to 24.8 / 75.2. If PS3 stopped selling and X360 continued at this week's rate, it would catch up in 233.8 weeks (September 7, 2013).

PS3 vs Wii: Weekly shares of 61.0 / 39.0 bring total shares to 27.2 / 72.8. This is the first time PS3 has outsold Wii three weeks in a row, unless you count the three weeks PS3 was out and Wii wasn't. At this week's rates PS3 catches up to Wii in 487.5 weeks (July 19, 2018). If Wii stopped selling and PS3 continued at this week's rate, it would catch up in 175.3 weeks (July 25, 2012).

Week over week, Wii's a little up, everything else is down. Though PS2's amount of down is tiny, and if DS was split into its component parts then DSL would be a little up, too.
X360

Through the first eleven weeks of the year, almost everything is down by some degree. Here's how the year-to-date year-over-year percents stand as of now.

Wii: -62.5%
DSL+DSi: -6.9%
PS2: -55.3%
PS3: -7.0%
PSP: -36.9%
X360: +204.5%

Home hardware: -41.4%
Portable hardware: -21.9%
Sum of all hardware: -30.5%

Addendum: Using the loooong version of the hardware sales line graph generator, I've taken a look at the way each of the current (non-PS2) systems have started their years. While of course in image form that much data is a mess, it's a bit more understandable as a ranking of where things stand at 11 weeks.

Code:
DS 2007:1,719,595
Wii 2008: 944,254
DS 2008: 926,177
PSP 2008: 918,997
Wii 2007: 915,139
[b]DS 2009: 861,904[/b]

PSP 2007: 603,928
PSP 2005: 580,120
[b]PSP 2009: 579,953[/b]
PSP 2006: 484,474
DS 2005: 429,545
[b]Wii 2009: 354,367[/b]
PS3 2008: 322,510
PS3 2007: 316,475
[b]PS3 2009: 299,850[/b]
[b]X360 2009: 134,239[/b]
X360 2007: 71,632
X360 2008: 44,092
X360 2006: 28,750

With this many systems listed, it's even too long to work with the shortened, forum-friendly version of the URLs, but if you want to look at the numbers yourself (and I know I'll probably revisit it in the weeks ahead), here's the ugly version URL to copy/paste:
Code:
http://garaph.info/linecompare.php?weeks=11&sum=1&html=2&sys[0]=DS&date[0]=2005-01-03&gr[0]=hf&tra[0]=mc&sys[1]=DS&date[1]=2006-01-02&gr[1]=hf&sys[2]=DS&date[2]=2007-01-01&gr[2]=hf&sys[3]=DS&date[3]=2007-12-31&gr[3]=hf&sys[4]=DS&date[4]=2008-12-29&gr[4]=hf&sys[5]=PSP&date[5]=2005-01-03&sys[6]=PSP&date[6]=2006-01-02&sys[7]=PSP&date[7]=2007-01-01&sys[8]=PSP&date[8]=2007-12-31&sys[9]=PSP&date[9]=2008-12-29&sys[10]=X360&date[10]=2006-01-02&sys[11]=X360&date[11]=2007-01-01&sys[12]=X360&date[12]=2007-12-31&sys[13]=X360&date[13]=2008-12-29&sys[14]=PS3&date[14]=2007-01-01&sys[15]=PS3&date[15]=2007-12-31&sys[16]=PS3&date[16]=2008-12-29&sys[17]=Wii&date[17]=2007-01-01&sys[18]=Wii&date[18]=2007-12-31&sys[19]=Wii&date[19]=2008-12-29

I think the first two are just bobbles, but you can expect a lot more PSP games to make the top 10.

Well, PS3 getting two major games within the span of a month is a pretty unusual (bobble-y?) event.

PSP getting new colors... well, I guess that's not so unusual.

It's down, but I don't know if I'd call a slope like this precipitous.
hf

Most systems had similar slopes this year, except half of them had recent bumps due to major games or new colors.
Looks like it did similar things early last year, though.
2007-12-31

DS is the best hanger-on, other than X360 which isn't so much hanging on as wearing stilts.

Famitsu Software Stuff

Another interesting week on the Famitsu Software Pie. It's very much like last week's, except that with Resident Evil 5, both PS3 and X360 take a bigger share. While not Wii's lowest week in the pie, I believe this is the first time both PS3 and X360 have been above it.

PS3: 32.0%
DS: 31.2%
PSP: 12.3%
X360: 9.1%
Wii: 8.8%
PS2: 6.3%
Other: 0.3%

PS3 Resident Evil 5 is the biggest first week for an RE game in the Garaph database; you'd have to go back to its PS1 heyday to find one bigger. Of course if you add in the sales of the X360 version, it's even greater. There are a lot of things to get jumbled in this mega RE image, but the PS3 one is the one rising above the rest at the far left (3455).
400

Yakuza 3's (3445) second week is still pretty good, but it loses some ground to Yakuza 2's (2540) bigger second week.
400

Mario & Luigi RPG 3 (3432) keeps trucking on. It's passed the point where Partners in Time (212) was when it fell out of the Top 30, though not quite the same point for the original (1150).
400

Game Center CX (Retro Game Challenge) 2 appears to be performing almost identically to... Game Center CX.

This is the first week since Animal Crossing: City Folk released that Animal Crossing: Wild World outsold it by a slight amount: 6,285 to 5,996. A line image wouldn't show very well, since Wild World has popped in and out of the Top 30 this year.

Though I expect in the end it won't do as well as its predecessor. Including the re-release, KimiKiss probably stands at ~85K LTD.

I haven't done this a lot, myself, but as Animal Crossing tends to only fall out for a week at a time, it's a relatively simple matter to determine the weekly sales for the missing week.

select a.platform, a.TitleEnglish, (c.LTD-c.Weekly)-a.LTD as Weekly, (c.LTD-c.Weekly) as LTD
from <software table for week after> c INNER JOIN <software table for week before> a ON (a.platform=c.platform and a.TitleEnglish=c.TitleEnglish)
where a.TitleEnglish like 'Animal%Wild%' ;

Yeah, I try to do that with games that hover around the bottom like that, but since Wild World was out the previous two weeks we can't in this case, so the line is missing during the most interesting part.

Well, everyone but GAF's best known J-ADV fan :D

KimiKiss is over 100k btw, but I think Amagami can beat the full price edition numbers, its nearly beaten its first week with the first day data, and it didn't have much legs so even if its pretty front-loaded it may beat it. I'm thinking >50k first week and ~75k LTD is plausible.

KimiKiss - 1st Week 40,538 (LTD 67,196)
KimiKiss The Best! - 1st Week 34,496 (no more data than first week)

It is probably too late for an eventual the best! re-release doing as good as Kimikiss, but maybe they should into a PSP port, there's lots of PS2 ADV ports on the console already.

Edit: I was going to put another artwork because I somehow like it (and because the thread is stale as fuck) but they are freaking huge so there you go with 1900x1200 and 1600x1200 links instead!

Harvest Moon really isn't as popular as it used to be. Not even the PSP's good software sales can save it at this point.

Rune Factory, on the other hand, is decently popular. I think it would be interesting if PSP got one of the games, even if it were just a port of the Wii version.

I think Nintendo needs to find a way to make consoles relevant in Japan again. The Wii is probably the only one that even has a chance at that right now.

But how can they do it? Maybe make the DS and Wii more interactive with one another?

I'd sure hate to see unique Japanese console games die off.

Sinobi didn't have numbers for that Ape Escape RPG game for psp either so I don't think the lack of numbers is because Harvest Moon bombed. Of course, it could have bombed but even if the Ape Escape game is a physical release of an old PSN store game I still think it can sell more than the Dragon Ball Movie game

Well, I wouldn't mind having a Pac-man game, that utilitize Wi Fi connection between Wii & DS/DSi. Without needs to buy cables (unlike GCN-GBA situation), the game should be much more successful. I have fun playing it with my sons on GC, but playing them on GBA (nonSP ones, with no backlight) is painful to the eyes.

Some are... When was the last Densha de Go games ? A Wii port of Shinkansen in 2007, and last original game was DdG Final, 5 years ago ?

Many (most ?) low-profile japanese games died with the new generation :( On PS3, I can understand, but they could have a decent success on Wii ? Or they could still try PS2 ?

Here is a LTD list of the previous SRW games. Click on the Game IDs to see the first week sales:

http://garaph.info/softwaregroup.php?grid=131

EDIT: When searching on Josh's site, select "Game search", and then select "Boolean" as search type instead of "LIKE". Then you dont have to search for the exact name of the game to find the games in the list :)

EDIT 2: Stumpakapow already explained it before me i see :)
