Do people in Japan buy HDTV's?

Serious question.

The adoption rate for HDTVs in Japan is, I belive, higher than any other country in the world. No stores near me have sold SDTVs in years.

And now broadcasts are HD only.

And at the Panasonic shop near me they have a 70 inch display hooked up to a Wii playing Mario cart...

HD (or High vision as they call it) is everywhere in Japan, but most people don't care.

Christ, the Japanese market seems to be experimenting a big decline. How does it compare to 2003/2004 at this time of the year?

Go Oboro you can do it, :p, atleast it charted, not saying much it was #2, though thanks other companies for not killing it's sales with other big release this week.

Just in 2007 things were WAAAY better. Like, the top ten were in the hundred thousands I think.

Dunno what happened. I think it's the fragmentation of the market myself.

Quick question, is MC or Famitsu going to show FFVII Advent Children Complete sales or not?

Why would they? It's a movie.

I have no clue. I wouldn't expect them to though

So how slow can things get?

Could we have a week where no home console can break the 10k barrier?

I kinda doubt that. I can't imagine the Wii falling below 10k. It may not have any huge games coming out soon, but it's got a decent string of smaller releases for the next few weeks/months.

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.

Mario and Luigi will headline E3 for the DS games. Can't wait to see how it looks translated.

I'm actually hoping for some new games... but whatever.

Well last year they did show GTA, but they really showcased that new pokemon ranger game which was already out in Japan. Maybe they'll show a couple of 3rd party surprises.

Wouldn't that be cool if they showed a Starfox that didn't suck?

New Super Mario World?

Animal Crossing 2?

Pikmin DS?

Final Fantasy V DS?
Oh god, please.

If its the same shipment number (32k) then MC would show a 90% sell through

:lol Wow "bomb" indeed.

I really hope that this somewhat gives some evidence that 2D games at retail can be viable.

Going by Famitsu's 24000, it's 75% (they reported the shipment of 32k).

I think he's asking for the media create sales percentages. Well I guess I'll figure it out by using the Famitsu data.

The total of the shipment was 32,000. So I'll make it simpler by labeling it just 32.

Well anyway 32 multiplied by 1/4th or divided by 4 is 8, so 8=25%, 4=12.5%. and so on.

Since 24,000 is 25% the difference between that and 29,000 is a little over 4,000 more (12.5%). So that should total at or slightly above 88%.

I didn't expect them to because its a movie, but with a console coming out that it's packed into, andit having the FFXIII demo, I just wanted to see the correlation between new PS3s bought/BDs bought.

Yeah I see what you're saying. It would be interesting if they do.

Wow thats a pretty big difference between the trackers.

Does this mean that it pretty much sold out everywhere first week? Hopefully they can get a second shipment in quick.

What? The switch is in 2012. You can still watch shows no problem on an old SDTV.

I think he meant that everything is broadcast in HD right now. Sure SD is still available, but as far as I am aware none of the major networks broadcast any shows exclusively in SD anymore. In fact, if you aren't hooked up to a digital tuner then you the word "analog" will be displayed in the top-right of the screen on most shows.

Okay, I'm actually impressed by Murasama's debut numbers. If the game can sell through 100,000 units in Japan I think it'll be a good success story on the Wii once its out worldwide.

In case anyone was wondering, I don't believe the FFVII PS3 console bundles are sold out... yet. The day's not over yet, but PS3 sales will probably still rise above the Wii again.

The Biohazard 5 and Yakuza 3 ones definitely sold out very quickly.

Yeah, that definitely makes more sense. The amount of HD content in Japan is pretty huge, although I guess it was a logical step after BS programming.

Are the quantities shipped the same ? My understanding was FF VII bundles shipped > RE 5 bundles shipped > Yakuza 3 bundles shipped

Thanks for the info on HDTV's. I just wondered why most games sold are from the ps2 era etc.

your average japanese male really doesnt have that much time to play games at home on the tv these days id say.
