Handheld ones anyway, BD and LO had a lot more concrete info by now before their release. Cry-on it's... an action rpg where a girl rides a colossus like thing called bogle. Thats about all we know, if it's even alive is my other wonder.
Microsoft isn't publishing Cry-On though.

Ugh... where did I say they were? or are you just randomly spouting that since it seems to come up everytime the game is mentioned.

Not necessarily. We didn't know much of anything about BD until it's pre-TGS stuff, me thinks.
The Last Remnant is just as weird too. There hasn't been much on that one either and it's coming out this November.

It's possible there is a deal going on between SquareEnix, Mystwalker, MS to allow certain games to come out before talking about others. Cy-On would probably overshadow everything hat has come out thus far this year, including The Last Remnant. Cry-On really sounded interesting and I absolutely loved the art direction from the concept work.

At least 30 million (which is another 3-4 years).

For the PS2 during its prime, this was considered an above-average week. I remember the PS2 hitting 80k in a week and that was huge. When the PS2 was 4 years old, it was doing about 40k-50k a week.

It's still down substantially year over year (nearly 19%), but over the past 3 weeks, it's been up year over year in the same time period. Let's see how Wii Music does. If Wii Music sells well and pushes Wii hardware, Nintendo can definitely make up a lot of ground and fast.

Is this the third time the 360 has outsold the PS3 for the week since they launched or has it been more?
4th.

Ace Combat 6 Week, last year
Tales of Vesperia Week
Last Week
This Week

But this is the first time the combined sales of the 360 has outsold the PS3 for span of over a month . If you match it up to NPD it came within 900 units for the month of August(39.9k vs 39k), and September should be the first month the 360 outsells the PS3 by a distinctive amount. The weekly thing is no longer as impressive, now we are moving on to monthly.

I'm just saying it's happened 3 times over the past month and a half. I doubt we will be seeing any more shock and awe threads or headlines over this. Don't get me wrong, I am saying that in of itself is GREAT for the 360.

What's really impressive about all of this is the growth potential that the 360 is showing, and is obviously there and probably has been there all along.

And in all honesty, the most glaring fact is that after 3 years on the market, it STILL hasn't had ONE killer app in Japan(although you could make a case for BD). Not one. SO4 looks to be its best offering so far, but previous Star Ocean games were never considered in the killer app category nevermind system movers. It still hasn't had a Metal Gear or Gran Turismo level game. If MS could ONLY come up with ONE big hit over there, along with all of these other good but not reall must-have games, it will certainly help its chances. It needs something on the level of those games, and it needs to be exclusive.

The 360 went from dead to outselling the PS3 on the back of basically 2 pretty average role playing games and a price drop. Just imagine if it had something like FFXIII, or Dragon Quest, MGS or anything on that level as an exclusive over there. Especially if it was coming out this fall, it could actually give the PS3 a run for its money over the holidays. Too bad there's nothing.......but who knows maybe it will get lucky and all of a sudden the Japanese will develop a taste for Gears of War.

I don't agree with anything you've said. The 360 was, is, and will always be, a complete joke and a failure in Japan. It's getting bought for big Japan releases, and typically being sold back the following week, is my understanding.

That said, didn't the first Gears actually do surprisingly well in Japan?

Blue Dragon's LTD (Famitsu) is 29.7% of the 360's LTD (Media-Create). You don't get attach rates like that with non-system sellers. Tales of Vesperia is 20.5% of the 360's LTD.

How many PS2 games sold to a fifth of the Japanese PS2 owners? Hint: It begins with "no" and ends with "ne."

It made the Media-Create Top 10 but sold just decent for a 360 game.

Jimbo,

Maybe you should ask the developers who chose xbox 360 in japan how happy they are with their ROV so far for their games. spend 15 million get 14 million back. great business model.

Yeah. Capcom must be pretty pissed off with banking on 360 for Dead Rising. Resident Evil 5's gonna bomb too :(

To me it just highlights how bad the PS3 is doing, partly because there is just a total lack of Japanese orientated games available for the system and not that many coming in the near future.

As for the 360, it's impressive for the 360, but it's just that a 360, and in Japan totally irrelevant. The numbers as impressive as they are based on the Xbox's brand over there are still so low they don't matter.

So what does that make the PS3 who is getting beat by the joke and failure that the 360 is?

And you don't agree that the 360 has not had a killer app in Japan, and that if it did it would help it a lot more than the offerings its had so far?

That's fine, everyone's got their opinion, but that doesn't make you right.

Beaten already. But yeah, ask Mystwalker and Capcom.

Besides, OBVIOUSLY they like something about their business model since their support continues. Maybe they don't just look at Japan, and maybe they see a little more than MC weekly sales numbers.

And what's their alternative? Bank on the PS3 with no incentive from Sony? The PS3 is also shitty in Japan at the moment AND behind everywhere else. What kind of security is that? So to me, no matter what you think, it looks like they would rather bank on the 360, take their MS moneyhat and keep on rolling. And they ALWAYS have the option of also releasing these games on the PS3.

Besides, name me one great Japanese 360 exclusive has done so horrible world wide?

The fact is they don't believe the PS3 can offer them enough sales potential in Japan alone and they would STILL have to depend on the rest of the world for sales. So in that case, why not the 360? It worked for Capcom. It worked for Mystwalker. It will continue to work for future games as well.

Right and wrong. The 360, compared to the Wii or the PS3 will never be even remotely in the same league. However I've always maintained companies at least somewhat have to take into account past consoles performance. We consider a PS3 a relative failure for example because it hasn't shown signs of living up to the sales performance of the PS2 yet, even though it's sales are respectable they're not comparable to what Sony would expect.

Similarly, Nintendo has had immense success with the Wii and the DS, and in fact the DS's sales are essentially unprecedented in the time frame it's taken it, with the Wii still slightly ahead of the PS2 at this point in it's lifecycle (and almost through the PS2's holiday while coming up on the Wii's own holiday).

By contrast the 360 has been consistently more successful than the original xbox and is in fact in the midst of Microsoft's best hardware year ever in Japan. It doesn't matter to the rest of the market but Microsoft execs are probably a LOT happier with it's performance than they were with the original xbox's, and that's something that shouldn't be overrated.

Hell no. Unless you found GCN sales in Japan respectable. IMO, the only reason PS3 isn't looked at as a complete disaster is probably because the Wii is not really in the same league as a PS3 or 360 and probably won't receive the high budget games. It's like what would happened with the GCN if the PS2 was using PSX tech.

You want to know what I am so sick of hearing about in these threads? The POOR Japanese developers. Oh how they have been duped by MS and the 360. Oh noeees.

Give me a freaking break. What a wonderful sob story.

Here's a fact.

A NO NAME company, mad a NO NAME game, with OUTSOURCED development, for the 360 which went on to sell 200k over 2 YEARS AGO, on a ~350k user base, on the biggest failure of a console in Japan outside of the original Xbox. That game was Blue Dragon. Seriously, these companies can't make a game better than Blue Dragon?

This same company, showed how to make another game that went on to sell over 800k world wide when it's designed with the west in mind. They showed them how to do it BOTH WAYS.

You mean to tell me Namco, SquareEnix, Tecmo, Konami, and all the others can't freaking do better than Mystwalker if they REALLY TRIED?

It's their OWN damn fault for taking so long to rally behind the 360 from the get go and when they did offer something, they either offered HALF ASS tries, or sequels to declining series that people have gotten tired of. So I don't think leftovers deserve anything better than what they have gotten.

I'm curious, is there a source for Lost Odyssey selling 800k? With LTD in Japan and first month in the US, I only know 300k has been sold for sure.

Spun around, I think the problem is the PS3 is still ONLY 1.5 million ahead of a sub 700k 360.

2.3 million after 2 years for the leading HD console in Japan? At least the 360 is doing a hell of a lot better as the leading HD console everywhere else, especially in its home country. And yes it will more likely get bigger,
although lately it has actually gotten smaller
, and the question is when will it start to significantly put up some sales, how much, and will it be too little too late? FFXIII is still a year away and it doesn't look like Sony is dropping the price this holiday season, which is a big mistake IMO for Japan anyway. MGS4 was its big hit and that only lasted a month.

It's the equivalent of MS not dropping the price if the 360 got down to 80k a month sales in the US.

This is not some noob developer just trying to break into the industry and getting lucky on their first shot. This was a studio set up by Microsoft to be their Japanese ace-in-the-hole. It was backed with millions by Microsoft to setup the studio and develop 360 games for Japan. Your sob story rings outrageously hollow, jimbo.

360 is in near-sellout territory again, so probably 5K or so for the week.

I'm curious, is there a source for Lost Odyssey selling 800k? With LTD in Japan and first month in the US, I only know 300k has been sold for sure.
I don't know and I never cared to look it up since it had never been contested in here when used by others.

No name huh. Thats a stretch. I guess this same no name company published their own games and paid for their own marketing and paid the extra royalty fee for having a game more than two discs. Poor little mistwalker.
