I think PSP will pass DS by next week (not YTD, just beat it for that week).. Ya heard it first folks!

When is DQ coming?

Nintendo piece of pie is getting smaller because of PSP 0_o

I won't be surprised if in a few weeks PSP starts outselling DS.

When it's all said and done... What are your guesstimathimatications for PSP lifetime sales?

wow the PSP is closing the gap. I wonder if it'll pass the DS (w/o a new color or any other sales spike move)

PSP has been coming out with a reasonable lot of colors since its release - how does it compare with both DS and DSlite color amounts? How many colors (and which ones) have been released for each one in Japan?

I think its time for a DS price cut. It should happen in 2008 because its going to sell way lower than 2007 with this pricepoint. The PSP has also made a very nice comeback.

I also wanted to say that Nintendo's marketing in Japan (and also in Europe to some degree) is excellent. The WiiFit commercials are amazing and likely to carry the title well above 4 million.

so, after price drops and holidays, PS3 will stabilize on 35k? against the 15k that was doing before.

not great, but "less terrible" IMO.

and holy shit at PSP

I think it was said that PS2 median was 40-45k? Granted, PS3 will never reach the spikes during the holidays and big releases that the PS2 did.

Although, 35k/week average for a year is 1.8mil. So who knows what its ceiling is at this point. It could also easily go back to the sub 10k mark, too.

Cheesemeister - This may or may not be worth your time, but when you update the thread with the software titles could you maybe post last week's results by comparison? I don't mean the full chart like you do with a note where things were last week if they charted, but I'm talking about the number of titles per platform, since that's the only data you don't do previous week's numbers on.

I recognize it may not mean much in the long term, but I find it interesting for example that the DS is "losing" top titles to just about everyone this week compared to last week, it certainly shows a strong holiday for the DS may not lead to many of those titles (except for a few stalwarts) having good legs, while Wii has pretty consistently shown great legs and a consistency in titles in the top 50.

Just to show what I mean though (even though it's obvious)

NDS - 24 LW - 32
WII - 11 LW - 9
PS2 - 5 LW - 3
PSP - 5 LW - 3
PS3 - 4 LW - 3
360 - 1 LW - 0

I think it will fall lower than 35K, just like Wii will fall from 85K.

Wait a minute, do you mean that Mario 64 sold 830k or that S

Also, wow! DS has dropped pretty far! Hopefully it can stabilize at 100k again!

If PSP continues to not sell software and DS continues to be the monster it is, I don't think Nintendo will drop the price...

I don't remember it charting. Check the October MC threads from last year.

For some perspective, here were last year's MC numbers, the week of 2007-01-08:

Wii: 93,708
DSL: 89,287
PSP: 48,804
PS3: 25,531
PS2: 22,663
X360: 9,035
GBM: 1,959
GBASP: 1,547
GCN: 611
GBA: 79
DS: 41

Most returning systems are pretty close to what they were last year, +/- 10K. PSP is the big exception.

I'm actually projecting 17k for the first week of February now, going by something I posted a while ago. Judging by the gentle post-rush drop it had, I say it's at least going to do better than the Gamecube did in its first post-holiday period, and likewise for the entire coming year. Can't tell by how much, but I'm fairly certain it will.

Super Mario Galaxy has to sell that much more to reach Super Mario 64.

Well deserved numbers for PSP. It's time for Nintendo to hold another conference and drop some bombs. There's barely any first party games coming up.

It depends on how much Nintendo really feels like the DS is competing with the PSP at this point. I suppose if they feel the need to have the DS continue to outsell the PSP on principle, they could drop the price, but if it continues to sell as it did in 07, I don't see why they would bother.

When the hardware is 1:1 and the software is 5:1, it's an odd situation.

DS vs PSP: Weekly shares of 50.3 / 49.7, bringing total shares to 73.1 / 26.9. If DS stopped selling and PSP continued at this week's rate, it would catch up in 141.6 weeks (October 1, 2010).

PS3 vs Wii: Weekly shares of 31.5 / 68.5, bringing total shares to 26.2 / 73.8. If Wii stopped selling and PS3 continued at this week's rate, it would catch up in 81.3 weeks (August 5, 2009).

Even before the PSPs recent surge in hardware sales, it was still the only real handheld competitor to a Nintendo handheld, but that had more to do with the fact that any previous handhelds trying to compete with Nintendo were such failures.

i stand corrected. i thought this was one of the slowest weeks of the year. i guess i have to wait for february to get a real feel for the market.

Oh snarf. New Famitsu hardware and software data is up, and they did indeed combine the last week of 2007 and the first week of 2008. Way to make delineation a pain in the ass.

Though at least for those games that appeared in the 2007 Top 100, we'll be able to see what happened each week through the changes in the LTD.

I think 2008 and beyond will be the time for sequals on the DS. I'm surprised that Nintendo has created so few sequals for there hit properties on the DS. I'm sure another Brain Training title would do millions, New Super Mario Bros 2 could do amazing numbers as well, not to forget Nintendogs 2, General knowledge training 2, Cook book 2, Yoshi island 2, Zelda PH 2, Animal Crossing 2, Mario Kart DS 2 and more. All potential hits.

actually, if that doesn't seem worthwhile why not a simple rolling 4 week average of the titles per platform per week? Certainly the math would be easy enough, it'd be a lot more useful in showing a trend line of a sort and it would make the numbers MEAN something rather than just posting titles per platform as raw numbers without any context.
