Yes they did. They were selling it themselves with 31% off, now its sold via marketplace sellers. And no, 31% off isn't the common preorder slash they give, its 20% and Wii Music had that but then they lowered it to 31% off.
.

This is kinda silly to argue about here... and most likely I missed out on the 2 hour period they had a price cut. but... as I said before They were selling the game for 4,500 yen: Google Cache

Which is 23% off, I never mentioned anything about 31% being common preorder slash .
The Current 31% off price now does not include shipping the marketplace guy is charging, which would bring the price up to around 4,400.

For reasons unknown, Buying directly from amazon.co.jp, They've actually upped the price to 4,683. Which more then anything makes me wonder just what calculations are they doing behind the scenes there

People seem to forget that there were many nongames that did not enjoy a lot of success

for example Electro Plancton or that Trivia game for the Wii that was released this year

Electro Plancton was one of the first games to be released as a non-game. It had no campaign, no image and certainly no hype. Also it didn't receive many positive reviews if remember correctly. Trivia, who?!

In my opinion, the whole non-games thing started with nintendogs, braintraining and the release of the nintendo wii.

So its a 20m $ game now? Come on, I'm not saying it costs 100$ and 2 monkeys to make, just that its a cheap title on the development side.

I wouldn't have mentioned it if I knew it was sold from resellers, although I may have taken it wrong when I saw it, right now the 31% off its sold via resellers that's sure.

Indeed. The two year dev cycle for OOE definitely made it a better experience...

Mhmm. Definitely one of my favorite (action) games of the year thus far. Let's hope the cycle continues.

Bigger drop than I expected for Wii Music, but I still would urge some caution before calling it a bomb.

I think it will hit 500K eventually, but obviously isn't going to be as big a success as the previous Wii games. Still wouldn't be a failure.

Let me guess, Girls Mode is what Intelligent Systems has been working on since AW DoR? I wonder which studio made it.
They're probably working on the sequel to Face Training for DSi. :lol :(

syn Sophia made Girls Mode though, a company that houses former Aki employees. They also made Sim City DS2.

That list looks strangely like the ********.com list for Japan....Cept the VGC list reports about 4x less X360 software sold in total.

At any rate, in defense of Wii Music:

If you look at the top 10/30 list, Wii Fit, Wii Sports, and Wii Play have all seen MASSIVE drops this week, despite not having a major drop in hardware sales (according to Famitsu).

Because of this, I would venture to believe that Wii Music has cut into the triad of Fit/Sports/Play.

What does this mean? Wii Music, despite being bought by no one (and lets face it, it has yet to break 50% sellthrough of the initial shipment), may have become the default go-to game that the other Wii titles have been, since all took major hits....Most notably Sports.

So because of this, it just may end up with monster legs.

there were many many weird japanese only non game titles though

like magic training or face training those did not do all that well

And electroplankton debuted at the E3 conference 2005 remember

it was a big game for Nintendo back then

Well, software LTD is probably the same. In a case like this where they're so close probably the attempts to scrounge more sources of small data help, but as far as the Famitsu sources I gather come to, Wii software is at 22.2 million versus 21.8 million for PSP.

I really liked the Japanese showing where they had the DS with holes all in it, and the violin accompanied music rendition with Electroplankton's creator. It was really great. :)

Holy crap, I just noticed that the Wii is beating the PSP in LTD sales.

Thats not exactly a great bench mark, considering the running meme of poor software sales on PSP

I edited because I wasn't implying anything with my post, both consoles are doing ok (one thanks to Nintendo games doing great and third party games tanking badly and the other with games selling ok) considering the releases that the two have had in the last six months.

I think psp is improving but I'm biased :p

The most surprising thing for me here is that the Ps2 is holding strong in game sales two years after the "new gen" has been in the market

It has topped Aria as my favourite Metroidvania. It deserves to do very well. I'm actually pretty worried about NA sales though...

For me it's still SOTN, followed by DOS. I admittedly haven't finished Aria yet but it seems excellent. I'm thinking of getting one of my many DS-owning friends to check out OOE, because I won't be able to play it of my own accord.

I think that's the point. That a console that's been out half as long and has usually had ~4 million fewer sold systems exceeds it in software sales is validation of the meme.

Looking at it the "weeks ownership" way I estimate PSP has had 2.4 times as many weeks of ownership, though this doesn't account for the increased likelihood of double or triple purchasers thanks to the model changes.

Generalizations are stupid. Quite a number of third party games have tanked badly on PSP as well.

Obviously as it's selling about the same as the Wii which doesn't sell software.

Edit:
From my Famitsu database, 3/31 - 10/19, whatever I have in my database (which is Top 30s+ but not everything).

NDS - 9,742,917
WII - 4,949,323
PSP - 4,086,197
PS2 - 2,823,829
PS3 - 1,651,435
360 - 627,145

Essentially, DS is selling freaking truckloads of software under the radar.

Edit2:
PSP 60,467
Wii 24,292
DS Lite 22,965
Xbox 360 7,844
PS2 6,962
PS3 3,931

That has to be a mistake under 4k for the PS3? If that is true this is the week the PS3 died in japan.

Next week is LBP and the new bundles so there will be a bump for sure. But man, thinking back on all the fanboy posts after E305 and how everyone assumed the PS3 would just dominate Japan without even trying...

Not to be combative, but selling more than it was last year and only a less than 2% decline from last week doesn't seem that weak to me.
