Wow thats a shit ton of Wii games. Granted most are 100% crap the few good ones or potentially good ones are probably going to eat at each others sales.

One of the problems with my "Wii comparisons" and "PS3 comparisons" has been the mixing of Media Create for modern data with Famitsu for older data. Since I've started putting in those early Famitsu numbers, it's not really an advantage anymore; they can all be done with Famitsu for apples-to-apples-to-apples comparisons all around.

Wii comparisons: At 54 weeks, Wii is past where GCN ever reached, where GBA was at 40.1 weeks (December 23, 2001), where DS was at 53.7 weeks (December 9, 2005), where PS2 was at 66.2 weeks (June 4, 2001), and where PSP was at 94.7 weeks (September 29, 2006).

PS3 comparisons: At 57 weeks, PS3 is where PS2 was at 10.0 weeks (May 6, 2000), where PSP was at 30.9 weeks (July 9, 2005), where GCN was at 50.1 weeks (August 25, 2002), and where Wii was at 10.7 weeks.

It is worth noting that a transition from MC to Famitsu numbers for the modern consoles lost Wii 30K sales through week 53, and gained PS3 53K through week 56. The biggest difference is that PS3 jumps ahead a few more GCN weeks.

The Wii has surpassed the GCN in Japan? When did that happen!?

The Wii has already passed the GC ltd? holy shit. (in one year no less)

also, PS3 tracking 7 weeks behind the GC? that can't be good.

Who would have thought people would be ecstatic about Galaxy tracking alongside Sunshine. :/

Still, glad it's not selling worse....at least not yet, anyway.

After GT5 Prologue nothing else will sell for the PS3. The Wii lineup has a lot of games and it looks like a lot of shovelware there but I haven't heard of most of them so I can't be sure.

After this week, Jan 31st will be the next week that matters for the PS3.

What surprises me more is that Nintendo is keeping the gap between a big game and another one surprisingly close, if we exclude what happened between Mario Party 8 and Super Mario Galaxy (i.e. nothing really). I think that this is a first conseguence of the increased earnings and the fact that it seems Wii is able to sell well for a very long time with key games here and there. Casual-oriented games of course.
As is said previously, Nintendo's main objective should be to expand its hardcore audience thanks to Smash and Mario Kart, and at the same time convert more casual gamers to games more hardcore oriented like Galaxy.

For now, the strategy in which they succeed is that they've been able to keep momentum better then with the first year of Nintendo DS in Japan. I'm sure that Nintendo still hope that the combination of Galaxy, WIi Fit, Smash and Mario Kart will somehow replicate the qualities that the Nintendo DS has shown us until now, i.e. selling like crazy both hardware- and software-wise.
We'll see. For now, Wii is very responsive to good casual games, but not as good with hardcore games.

Not by Media-Create's numbers. If the Famitsu numbers equate to the Media-Create numbers, the Wii is at 4.05 million, 120k short of what the Gamecube did in it's entire lifespan.

Things are definitely picking up for the holidays, that's a nice start for ToI considering the shipment! Layton continues to do well, both games! :D I also hope SMG continues at this pace for a while and has some legs. LO won't reach BD unfortunately, and the bump for 360 looks... sad. :( I guess PS3 owners are also picking up Yakuza 1/2 as part 3 is now one the more prominent looking titles on PS3 next year. DQIV is tracking below the PS1 version now but I think it'll have longer legs and reach 1 million before the end of the year, and weeks before FFIV.

I was expecting a more unified and steady increase for the holidays. It looks like the effect of the price drop on the PS3 has worn off, but general holiday sales have kicked up to counterbalance that. I wonder if it could hit over 80k for once.

Funny that Galaxy's sticking around. It was kinda hanging on there for a while. Maybe word of mouth will keep it from becoming another Twilight Princess.

I don't see anyway that Galaxy doesn't hit 700k... anything beyond that, though, is up in the air imo.

I think Galaxy has a decent chance of hitting 1 Million. It all depends on how it performs in the upcoming holiday weeks and what kind of legs it will have beyond January.

It's also the case in UK, if I'm not mistaken, and will soon be in Europe as a whole. USA will be last, probably in spring (with Smash Bros and Mario Kart, it's probably a safe bet).

So, if I've understand well some people here, it should stop selling soon ? ^_^

Good to seel SMG hanging on.

Shame that even with a low shipment, ToI couldn't exhaust those in its first week. Bomba comfirmed. Same for Minna no Golf Portable 2. >_<

Hope the Wii Tales makes numbers like the PS2 one, or Tales team will be scratching their heads trying to find where to put main Tales titles and sell 300-700k like they did on the PS2.

It could have a chance if it makes it to 850k-900k by the second week of January. TP dropped off at 400k and did 100k-150k off the charts. SM64 DS and FFIII performed similarly.

What SMG does next week will be telling, it'll either continue to track behind Sunshine, or finally pull head.

I doubt the Wii version will do all that great since it's just a cash in game. If they put some real effort into a Wii version and it still didn't sell, then I could see them wondering what to do next.

I thought Tales of Symphonia on GC was one of the best selling Tales ever?

Cellshaded 3D Wii Phantasia remake from Team Symphonia could do those sort of numbers I bet. Dunno, if Symphonia Gaiden has what it takes tho...

Still, pinning DS possibilities on another outsourced game (good as it might be) isn't exactly fair imo. If Team Destiny or Symphonia did a ground up DS Tales and it moved just ~100k first week, that'd be something else imo...

I think it may make sense to port Abyss to the wii. Its a high quality sales title that im sure Tales of Symphonia fans would get if ported right with enhancements.

I would buy it again if they did these improvements to Abyss.

-Decreased the loading times
-Take out the bugs
-Improve the jaggies
-Make Tear the lead character
-make Legretta a party member
-Added 50 bazillion hours of Anime Cutscenes
-Put the game on 3 DVD's

(note: the last 2 are sarcasm)

What should have been said ? Super Mario Galaxy's performance was disappointing and it remains disappointing as long as it sells less then Super Mario Sunshine. When (and if) Galaxy will surpass the 800k milestone, I'll change my opinion.
If anything MnG:p2 is doing disappointing numbers. Userbase is quite a bit bigger on PSP now compared to when the first launched and to what Wii is now at. Japan is handheld country, MnG used to be a million-selling franchise and it only manages to beat the first week numbers of the first one by a hair.

I definetly expected it to do better. This will have legs of course, just like Mario.

Do people have a feeling about how Valkyrie of the Battlefield will do ?

(Just been watching some videos, and can't get it out of my head).
I don't think it'll do well. It looks interesting but afaik the whole Valkyrie setting is new and doesn't have any support from an accompanying anime/manga. This coupled with not so hot overall software sales makes me believe it'll do sub 20k.

duckroll said:
Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed. I misjudged the 360 installed base I guess. Maybe they really don't give a fuck about JRPGs. After all Ace Combat 6 sold MORE. :(
You make it sound like that's a bad thing.

Assasin's Creed did really well on the 360, I expect a bump for the PS3 when this comes out.
Oblivion did far better on 360 due to being released earlier (and probably the different userbase as well). I don't expect AC to perform differently.

Next week's Vinnk's Village report will be very, very interesting, especially for PS3, Wii & NDS. NDS to hit 600K+ in the new year week ?

Edit : After referencing last year DS' sales (Dec Week 2 (04-10)), it seems it is higher in 2006 ( 309,797 ). So the possibility of breaking the non-launch weekly record of 597,628 is not too high.

About PS3 38K figure, it sit between GCN 1-Dec-02 figure ( 35,100) and GCN 8-Dec-02 figure ( 26,200 ). I choose Dec 2002 since it is one year after GCN launch.

I thought Namco already decided that the DS will receive the "mainline" Tales games?

I remember that because I assumed that the next one would be that unnamed PS3 RPG they have on their release list. But I guess that could end up being a Tales game anyways.
