Wow thats quite the first week for Taiko no Tatsujin, being a rhythm game & all, also ACs legs are getting longer by the week it seems.

Wii/DS starting to enter hyperdrive for the holiday weeks again, leaving the competition floundering, top 10 all Ninty for the first time in a long while too.

even though we are approaching holidays, I didn't expect the wii to go over 90k.

what's everyone opinion about DQX helping matters? is it possible?

and oh my, a Wii 3rd party game selling above 100k as the list's top game, that's quite a piece of news.

So... Wii Fit's about to hit 3 million in Japan and Mario Kart's going to reach 2 million.

Everything in the top ten has great numbers. The legs on some of those games are astonishing.

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom :/

Taiko Drum Master games are probably REALLY close to what GAF considers a non-game. :lol

Hopefully this means Let's Tap! will make 2 million copies in its first day next week. O=

Will Dissidia keep the DS menace off? Or will the game not matter at all?

It's gonna be a photo finish!

regardless of that, to have a wii 3rd party game performing decently is a rarity.

Having one in the top ten, over 100k, and in place number 1 of the list is a nearly once in a lifetime achievement.

in fact, I'd like someone with the data to tell us what other games have accomplished that.

Maybe Dragon Quest Swords.. but I can't think of anything else.

Wow, that's a strong start for Taiko. I wonder how it'll fare compared to the DS version, which I think was one of the first 3rd party games to really take off on the DS way back when.
I know it's maybe a bit unlikely, but wouldn't it be nice symmetry if Taiko Wii heralded a similar turnaround for the fortunes of third parties on the system?

I think the DSi will keep the lead since it's still relatively new and many DS owners are probably switching over and will continue to do so into the new year.

Yeah. It's also a traditional fighter, which are all but dead.
I don't think that tells the whole story, to be honest. There are issues with the Wii as a platform for traditional games (in Japan at least) at the moment that are playing a part in the low sales of titles like TvsC or Tenchu IV.

Well, it's not just Dissidia releasing this week. There is also Tales of Hearts, Suikoden Tierkreis and a new Pawa puro, all for DS. Non of these are playing in the same league as Dissidia, but with the DS already being at 200k it'll probably enough to stay before the PSP.

It seems like there's been a big upswing in sales, with Wagamama Fashion: Girl's Mode's weekly (LEGS) sales amount increasing dramatically over the last two weeks. As well Mario Kart Wii has made a reappearance after being off the chart for a while (I think?). Is there any reason for the upswing in Nintendo sales? I'm pretty vague on my Japanese holiday knowledge.

Also what is this?

Anybody notice that seven out of ten (and potentially eight if you include Wagamama Fashion) of those games are half-million sellers or better? That's shocking.
Evergreen market = no room for new releases.

True, but what was anything released last year at this time to cause the difference?

Wasn't the gundam game released? If so how did it do?
whether it's due to lack of titles or not is pretty irrelevant; low hardware sales might be a symptom of no software, but no software is a symptom of low hardware sales.
