Well, the expectations for such a game are pretty low, obviously, but it's going to struggle to even reach 60k sold units, imo.

I see. I do kinda see where you are coming from, especially with the JRPG overload.

What exactly is Dissidia? A SE version of Smash Bros? Minus the wackiness?

Fighting game featuring mainline FF characters with free roaming and very interesting but untraditional mechanics.

It also features a story mode!
It sucks.

Famitsu:

Dissidia:FF = 504k

It's doing better than CC. That makes me happy. :3

Dissidia sold the same as Crisis Core did in both in its first day and its first week?

That's some spooky shit right there.

Well, think of it this way.

Chances are, if you already bought a PSP for CC, you probably were frothing at the mouth, waiting to snap up Dissidia next in line. Basically, the same number of people did more to just come out to support SE again.

What I think will be most telling, is seeing how KH:BBS does. If it pulls greater numbers, then that will be saying something more than just the thing of SE doing enough to sell to the same audience again and again.

Great Dissidia numbers.

I think this should have longer legs that Crisis Core since it is Multi player. And people who like it will get their friends to buy it. It could become viral similar to how MHP2 gained success.

On topic: I want to see those French charts every week. Lascar PM me about them.

Also on topic: It's pretty obvious that PSP actually CAN move software--to its established base. We should continue to expect strong support, especially from Square. Interesting to see the how "square fan base" is really split among the DQ fanbase, the oldschool FF fanbase, and the newer, heathenistic FFVII+ fanbase.

Of course, this could be SE's intention and we're observing the same people owning multiple systems.

Updates way later tonight. Merry Christmas to all those that celebrate it, and happy holidays to everybody else. Peace!

Honestly, even though DS SLIMLY beat the PSP yearly total I still have to give the PSP props. Two years ago NO one would have predicted the resurgance of the handheld.

So why did T.vsC. bomb? Or didn't it? Was it on the wrong platform? Was Capcom actually expecting to sell the current total?

SO MANY UNANSWERED QUESTIONS @_@
It might be due to the low shipment. If it is really 35000, after a 70% sell thru I doubt it can get into the top 30.

What is the 360's LTD so far? How close is it to 1,000,000? I remember it being 750k back in August and it consistently sold about 10k every week since then.

Wow, so I guess TvC stopped selling completely (or at least under 800). Well at least it seems to be a budget release so maybe we'll see Capcom use that engine again. I wonder if they already had TvC2 in the works before the 1st one's release.

Here's to hoping this doesn't deter others from releasing fighting games on the platform.

You're reading the chart wrong. Everything listed after the Top 30 is just new release numbers. Theoretically, TvC could have sold anything up to just below 27k.

Could it be possible that Moor Angol's numbers are red and green, and not blue?

His numbers are for Red/Green/Blue. What he has is the last tracked number for just RGB. Famitsu did some outrageously astounding post-fitting on the Pokemon games, and, I think, attempted to cover up some of the post-fitting by listing them all together at some point. Same thing with Gold/Silver and Crystal.

Pretty sure that 10 million doesnt include Yellow. Its possible it just wasnt tracked

That would be incorrect.

Two years ago, any such prediction probably would've been based on it selling store bought games to produce such a resurgence.

I'm glad to see the cut off for top 30 at 27k. In 2002 the cut off was 16k for the corresponding week. The financial crisis is having a smaller effect on video game sales than I would have predicted.

PS3 sales are however very disappointing as usual. More surpisingly, Wii software sales are disappointing too. The third party games are still more or less absent. Also, one of the two new big Nintendo holiday games is not...big.

Games selling more than 27k this week for the biggest selling home console 2008, 2003 and 2002:

12/15-12/21 (2008)

Hmm ok, so about 2 more months give or take some weeks. SO4 would definitely push it over the edge if it dosn't make it to that point by then.

Unless SO4 magically sells 100k 360 bundles, it's going to take a little longer than that.

It's a shameful state of affairs for 3rd parties. Look at the software they put out for PS2 - Front Missions, Gundams, Power Pros, Metal Gears, Growlansers...

...then look at what they've put out for Wii.

So much money, all left on the table.

Why is it odd? Crisis Core only managed to push the PSP to 90,000.

crisis core launched with a bundle of 77777 units, an early launch for the psp-2000. it sold through 100% of inventory. the next week was the proper launch of the psp-2000 where it sold ~270k. so it's pretty much impossible to divorce the impact of the psp-2000 from the impact of crisis core.

Holy shit at the closeness, what did GCN do in it's 4th year?

I want to say something around 600k-700k. I don't think it did a million.

PS3's sales, unlike GC's sales, have been going up as time's gone on. So that's good, comparatively. It still has GT5 and FFXIII for Japan, which should provide some decent boosts. I'm guessing somewhere above 5 million but below Saturn/N64 levels for its lifetime.
