Anyway, did nothing new release this week ro something?

Thursday was New Year's, so nothing was released then. NDS Minna de Jibun no Setsumeisho: B-Kata, A-Kata, AB-Kata, O-Kata was released on Dec. 30, though. It was outside the Top 30 for Famitsu.

So Phantasy Star Zero is fail, apparently.

#15 in Media-Create
#13 in Famitsu @ 55K / 140K
#14 in Degeki @ 55K / 140K

Depends on your definition of "fail," I suppose.

I have no idea why I want Wagamama to do well... maybe it's because it reminds me of that Japanese restaurant chain I like so much.

I'm enjoying watching its sales just keep on trucking, personally.

Second week, on the most dominant system, DS. No legs, in other words. Guess this means they'll keep online-oriented RPGs on the PSP.

I really have to wonder just how much Nintendo's advertising is dependent upon word-of-mouth. I, for example, do not associate Nintendo with girl's fashion at all. Despite this, Wagamama, a new IP, has these fantastic supermodel legs. I mean, we're not talking Love & Berry here.

It can't all be about something as intangible and vague as polish, surely. Is this thing advertised a lot?

Is it me or are the Nintendo DS game charts getting an erection? Seriously, how many games INCREASE in sales after their first month? It's really eye-popping.

Sometime in the next few months, aggregate DS units sold will exceed the total number of households in Japan.

Holiday statistical noise? I realize it's not typical (Rhythm Tengoku is more surprising obviously since it's a bit older than Wagamama) but obviously those are simply popular holiday gift games.

Gift games are bought the week before New Year's. The week after New Year's are games that kids are buying with the money they got for New Year's. Nintendo system games usually seem to get a disproportionate portion of that post-New Year buying increase.

ok, fair point. That shouldn't be surprising though, given what we know of the top games in Japan (aren't the first 10 or so games all time in Japan Nintendo with like 2 Square titles?) and, obviously the top systems in Japan. Plus of course the brand that has always been perceived as disproportionately popular with kids.

Am I reading the charts wrong or did PSP YTD decrease from last week? Same for DS

Technically, the YTD (going how Japanese trackers calculate it) will be the same as whatever the sales are for this week. I think it's just placeholder numbers, for now.

Even though Kirby games do it almost every time, I'm always surprised when they cross the one million mark.

You mean like that last Kirby game which was the only Kirby game to cross 1 million since 1996, right?

Edit:
I'm having too much fun. I need to go to bed. :lol

Haha, I quess after the last Kirby game crossing 1+ million I just thought every game in the series must have done this... Or something.. I don't know. :lol I'm tired.

But anyway, the point was that Kirby games selll surprisignly well. I quess.

A sharp drop is not necessarily short legs. MP8 was hardly noticed as it rose to 1 million in Japan, because it didn't stay very high for very long.

Rhythm Tengoku is doing insanely well. Word of mouth at work here. I was talking to a friend's friend over the New Year, and when they found out I like games they asked "Oh, do you have Rhythm Tengoku? I'm addicted." Quite bizarre to hear stuff like that from casual gamers :)

Yeah, it's amazing how much more popular it is over the first game too. Do you know if RT got a boost as a result of RTG?

But here's hoping we get an RT game, maybe on the Wii (only if it's not Japan-exclusive, at least).

It's certainly held on because of word of mouth, but it was advertised like crazy in the beginning, with musicians and celebrities doing spots for it. Even Billboard ran ads for it.

Is PS Zero's performance thus far not weaker than how similar games on the PSP have tracked though?

But if it does end up with long or medium legs, tracking lower doesn't mean it'll be a less profitable endeavor in the long run.

What's more astonishing about this is that it's not squeaking past the 1 million mark like Squeak Squad did.

Ha, that's pretty funny though, squeak. Didn't even plan that.

We shall see, depending on how high (or low) it charts in the coming months.

Another week or two. Crisis Core was a hair under 800K at the beginning of November, and Dissidia was @ 757K in this week's Famitsu.

Oh okay. I was looking at the 2007 totals for Crisis Core, and it did 753k from Sept through Dec in that year. It wasn't in the top100 for the first half of 2008, so I don't have the updated numbers. Can't wait for the top 500 for 2008. :p
