Media Create Sales 16-22 Jan

Should I give them a rough estimate of how much they sold in EU ioi? It would go in my TEVS Document, but I want to make sure the estimates are accurate.

What would you put them at/other people put them at?

And still I have a hard time looking at EoN numbers. All the updated numbers are increments of 250? Must be estimates as well

Great to see DS software selling so well. I'm especially happy to see Animal Crossing sales so high.

I wonder what DS Lite's launch week will be? :)

If Lite launches same day as Tetris DS....

Expect the world to quake.

New releases places...

Yeah but overall sales are lower this week. Last week everything that didn't make the top 10 was <24K, this week everything that didn't make the top 10 is <18K.

DS: 64,515 (210,177, total since January 1st 2006)
PSP: 38,271 (228,714)
PS2: 26,271 (146,097)
GBASP: 7,912 (35,338)
GBM: 4,653 (22,813)
GC: 4,490 (23,378)
X360: 3,616 (17,200
GBA: 236 (1,033)
Xbox: 83 (358)

So those rumors where the DS only sold 20,000 and the PSP sold 80,000 were just fanboy ramblings and those Xbox 360 sales are HORRIBLE. Its getting beat by the Cube. :lol

Not only is the GCN outselling it right now, it's outsold it since the Xbox 360 launched.

GCN - 102,664
Xbox 360 - 87,767

Uh oh, X360 still hasn't sold 100k!? Perhaps it's a bit too early, but I think X360 could perhaps do even worse than Xbox.

Lost Magic was released on the 19th.

Woa, so Lost Magic was a super bomb then.

And it has NWFC, that's not a good sign.

But RTS don't usually do well in Japan anyway, right?

First DOA does not help sales of 360s in any way or form and then eM has the same effect. X2 in Japan is dead. Even if Lost Odyssey does see a temp spike in sales, the Xbox will have Sony to compete with by the time it does manage to sell a few. And you can also argue that even if Lost Odyssey or Blue Dragon (both of which I have no idea when are coming out) have 10x the impact that eM did, 10x0 is still zero.

Microsoft's last hope lies in Blue Dragon.

Those 360 software sales are solid, if not spectacular.

What does the 360 release list look like for the next couple months?

The system may already be dead before it gets off the ground.

Microsoft's last hope lies in Blue Dragon.

When is Blue Dragon due out? The game can't wait another year before release.

Funny you say this and get the meaning of my handle. Before I came here, I posted in a console-centric forum which was full of fanboys (who drove me crazy knowing that people could be so stupid). After years, I came to the conclusion that I was the Last Hope for humanity. That is where the idea for my name came from.

Really silly question. When the DS Lite is released, will its numbers be tracked separately from the original DS?

does everyone expect a drop in sales of DS until March? by drop i mean lower than these "shortage" numbers. and if yes, will there be a psp sales spike between now and march 2?

I honestly doubt Blue Dragon could help Xbox 360 sales.

Maybe Final Fantasy XI for a brief period, but it still couldn't help it overall.

Could you also add PSP 06 vs. PSP 05 to your chart? :)

I don't see a good place.

PSP '06 vs. '05 - 35,517
GBA '06 vs. '05 - -45,914 (almost all of that is the first week of the year. 29,825 '06 vs. 72,570 '05)

Aha! then the PSP sales will dwarf the original DS's. that article in the other thread was right. Now when one looks at original DS + DSL that is a WHOLE nother matter.

I can't believe that the 360 is going to end up doing worse than the original boxx0r. Damn.
Nah, there's no way that will happen. There are actually some good games coming to the 360 and I'm pretty sure people will buy them when they come out :)

I hope so.

Even though I play most western games nowadays I would like to buy some Japan developed games for 360 besides the ones from Team Ninja.

They made a mistake with the PS2 total for the week.

PS2 - 26,135

I don't know if the yearly YTD are correct for everything since I didn't double check them and I won't be anytime tonight.

it is funny u mention that because I've been feeling the opposite lately. Specially with the psp, there aren't enough japanese developed games released in the western world I'd like to play.

katamari/EEE/Exit should fix that :)

I thought it was strange that the PSP sold exactly 12K more than the PS2 which is why I double checked all of those figures. I think the same thing happened the last time next-gen.biz posted the full MC chart before anyone else also, they fail again.

Yeah, I thought it was interesting how they both ended with 271. Ah well.

I think Nintendo will exploit AC's popularity and release a GBA cartridge XP for this game with new furniture, new NPCs, new areas, and expanded features. They probably don't need to do lots of new work on this and it could come on a super cheap 16 MB GBA rom

Maybe we can finally get a larger Flash ROM that will do this game justice.

The notes.
Sales of the top 100 titles totaled 831,942 units, 83.31% of last week’s total and 63.91% of the weekly average. Although total sales were lower than those of the previous week, the results were an improvement on those for the same period the previous year (777,482 units), and it would appear that the software market is making a modest recovery.

Fourteen new releases took spots in the top 100, accounting for 19.52% of sales. Although “Super Mario Strikers” (which sold approximately 74,000 units) and “Resident Evil: Deadly Silence” (approximately 20,000 units) performed comparatively strongly, few other titles stood out, and a group of Christmas and New Year standard titles continued to drive the market.

Hope that they don't, going on past experience. The Band Bros expansion GBA cart has no save function. It doesn't even save your scores on those songs while the system is on. You're far, far better off with a proper sequel, or even an 'expanded version' on a proper DS card.

Yikes, looks like Ys PSP bombed harder than Ys PS2. Guess that means Konami's skipping Felghana?

They should do a DS port of Napishtim.

Is there any word on how many DSes Nintendo will be shipping to retailers and when? I remember Crow's trollathon thread about the DSes selling out within a few hours, but I just wonder how many Nintendo are actually shipping before the launch of the Lite.
