I can't imagine why a game with the words "Evangelion", "Girlfriend" and "Broccoli" in the title isn't selling better.

Because the stereotypes you're trying to apply to the market are no longer valid? Quick guess you know :|

Broccoli is the game maker. :lol
OH!

"2nd Broccoli" just seemed to flow so well, I didn't notice.
And no, no stereotypes about the game, I didn't even bother to guess what genre it is. I just thought the name was amusing.

What is that Genki game?
Sequel to last year's Shinsengumi.
The thing that surprises me most about the sales is how well PS2 is continuing to sell. I think a lot of people are digging the new model.

Do the MC #s have higher PS2 totals, or lower PSP totals? Their positions have swapped.

The PSP sold so much that it went back in time and outsold the DS again. Take that, Nintendo.

I notice you post similarly strange attempts at jokes in other posts where PSP is outselling DS or some game rates higher than a Nintendo game. It's like a built in defense mechanism I guess :lol

2 PSP 56,274 64,602 183,028

Why are the PS2 and PSP totals off? Am I wrong with any of the weeks?

Code:
Console | Jan 3-9 | Jan 10-16 | Jan 17-23 | Total
PS2 | 124,401 | 65,837 | 66,543 | 256,781
PSP | 62,052 | 64,602 | 56,274 | 182,928

Regardless of the sales fights about the DS and PSP, one thing is for sure.. we're in the greatest handheld years yet seen.. :) Both can handle 3D quite decently(especially PSP), so more and more games will be possible on the little ol' handhelds..

Using the totals from the website it's actually,

Code:
Console | Jan 3-9 | Jan 10-16 | Jan 17-23 | Total
PS2 | 124,401 | 65,837 | 56,374 | 246,612
PSP | 62,052 | 64,602 | 66,543 | 193,197

If this situation becomes a trend Nintendo is doomed seriously ^^''
And I wouldn't rule out last second surprises for the Europe/USA launch :lol

Sawaru and SM64 DS to reach 1 million?

Nintendo's three pillar system strikes again. :lol

The DS isn't the big problem here, its doing solidly and the tide will turn at least a bit with their new releases in upcoming months. But the GBA sales are very worrying for Nintendo. Very worrying. Is the GBA starting to go down in flames courtesy of being in competition with not only Sony's machine but it's own cousin the DS? Has the third pillar doomed the GBA as many predicted?

The only way the GBASP could continue to keep selling with the DS around is if Nintendo actually still supported it. From the looks of things, new GBA games are few and far between. Development seems to almost have stopped entirely. I think 3rd pillar was just to cover their asses if DS failed out of the gate, which it hasn't. Why would anybody in their right mind buy an SP over a DS unless money was a serious issue? I doubt these SP numbers really surprise anyone. Nintendo might be hurt about it, because those SP sales are just like free money. With DS and PSP, I think the SP numbers make sense.

I'm more than a little pissed at how badly the first game sold in the US. It's at ~50k after 4 months of sales vs 127k in just a few days in Japan. It was a truly excellent game with insanely addicitive gameplay. The only real complaints I heard was that it had no voice chat online.

Is this one going to be coming over to the US?

DCharlie

And even i am moderately surprised
"Is this one going to be coming over to the US?"

as mentioned, this IS the US version. Sounds like there were some minor differences (we didn't have the dual blade thing for instance)

I was going to pick up G, but will wait for either the rumoured xb version or the PSP *PLEASE GOD* version

Last years totals first 3 and 4 weeks.

December 29, 2003 - January 4, 2004
PlayStation 2 - 244,800
Game Boy Advance SP - 242,800
GameCube - 164,500
Game Boy Advance - 33,700
Xbox - 4,300

January 5 - January 11, 2004
PlayStation 2 - 87,286
Game Boy Advance SP - 69,412
GameCube - 36,906
Game Boy Advance - 12,057
Xbox - 1,950

January 12 - January 18, 2004
PlayStation 2 - 60,399
Game Boy Advance SP - 41,357
GameCube - 19,607
Game Boy Advance - 7,982
Xbox - 1,249

3 week Totals:
PS2: 392,485
GBASP+GBA: 407,308
GCN: 221,013
XBOX: 7,499

January 19 - 25, 2004
PlayStation 2 - 51,023
Game Boy Advance SP - 46,834
GameCube - 13,292
Game Boy Advance - 6,375
Xbox - 1,040

4 week Totals:
PS2: 443,508
GBASP+GBA: 460,517
GCN: 234,305
XBOX: 8,539

For comparison
PS2: 246,612
PSP: 193,197
DS: 206,696
GBASP+GBA: 105,096
GCN: 32,537
Xbox: 2,183

So PSP has cut Nintendo handheld marketshare:
2004 Market for handhelds thru aprox same week was roughly 460,000 units with Nintendo controlling 100% market share and aproximatly (in US dollars and US prices from last year) $46,000,000 in revenue.

2005 Market for handhelds roughly 500,000 units with revenue (in US dollars and US prices, PSP at $200) of about $78,000,000 split with Nintendo getting about $39,000,000.

Maybe Sony and Nintendo aren't lying when they say the PSP and DS aren't directly competing with one another. Right now it looks like the PSP is expanding the portable market without making a huge dent in total volume dollars for Nintendo. They are still down but not grossly down. The higher price tag of the DS helps, though. One DS is the equivalent of one and a three fourth SPs.

2005 Total marketshare at the moment:

Sony - 439,809 56 percent

Ninendo - 344, 329 44 percent

Dynasty Warriors PSP is always higher on the Media Create list than others lists. I wish Media Create wouldn't drop the overall total when a game drops out of the top 10.

Yes, now let's compare PSP to DS+GBA as we have been so far...
