From last week that I didn't get to post:

Interesting facts that may only be interesting to me:

1. Wii has held more than 2/3rds market share in the new gen console race since April of 2007.
2. Conversely, PS3 has never reached 1/3rd. The closest it came was in its 3rd week on sale, when it reached 28.51%
3. 360 has had less than 1/10th market share since April 29th 2007, and currently hovers around 7%.
4. The PS3 has 1.5% less market share than it did exactly one year ago (24.61% - 26.07%), while the Wii has 7.8% more (68.29% - 60.49%).

Those are long term numbers though. Perhaps a bit more interesting:

mc-marketshare-line-62.jpg

1. The Wii has been "losing" market share for 4 weeks in a row, despite outselling the PS3 greater than 2-1 in the same period. Why? Because the Wii sales (around 82k per week) make up less of the Wii total than the PS3 sales (around 38k per week) make up of its total.

2. For a true perspective on what the Wii had done to the PS3, look no further than the actual number of units more that the Wii has sold than the PS3. (current lead at 3.3 MILLION):

mc-wii-lead-62.jpg

Basically what you're looking at is complete domination. Outside of a small period of time (3 weeks in November 2007), the Wii has been outselling the PS3 by ridiculous amounts. No, even though the market share says differently, it's actually gaining steam. Gaining steam so much that, in fact, the Wii has gained 21% of its current lead in the last 9 weeks. That's momentum.

Family Ski has legs.

It appears so. I bet it helps that its the first title besides Wii Fit to use the Balance Board

The Japanese do not like the 360 because it has no games that appeal to Japanese people....... Oh wait..... They hate triggers.

1.1 million in less than two weeks for SSBB in Japan is amazing. Let's see what more stock and word of mouth can do for its legs.

Wii Fit's still going strong...

Im hoping for similiar brawl numbers here in NA.

Edit: when are they replenishing stock for SSBB?

26./00. [WII] Major Wii Throw! Gyro Ball!! (Takara-Tomy)

this right here is pretty telling.

Just a coupls of weeks ago, this would be unthinkable: A non stellar, third party wii game actually making it to the top 30...

I would be nice if this is a sign of improvement for the Wii in general.

It's not exactly like making the top 30 at this point is all that significant, since the numbers are far less. Games like that probably sold around the same amount, but just never appeared, since overall sales were higher.

This is from the other thread but I added it way at the tail end, so most people probably missed it. I hope you don't mind me reposting it.

hey Vinnk, can't find your report this week. is it online already?

Sorry I got swamped and didn't have time to do a full one. But here is the "lite version"

NOTE: this is all for February 7th (last week)

Totals:

Wii: 14
SSBB: 5
DMC4 (PS3): 47
DMC4 (360): 19 (+2 bundles)

Notes:

1. Will has the lowest stock I have seen in a long time. I guess Smash lowered stock but regardless it was only sold out at a few stores. Wii systems can still be found easily.

2. PS3 is the same as usual, but the units have all been moved to the front with the DMC4 displays, so it looks like there are more.

3. Tons of DS lite and PSP units. No chance either of these will be sold out anytime soon.

4. SSBB was only available at 2 stores. It was sold out at the others. Yamada Denki had a sign apologizing for it being sold out and one of the employees had drawn a picture of Kirby crying. It also says they expect more soon.

5. SSBB FINALLY has posters up and flyers you can take. Of course it's funny that they arrived now when no one can buy the game.

6. DMC4 kiosks are still up. It is probably the biggest in-store advertising push I have seen for a game this generation.

7. I was shocked to see a fairly sizable display set-up for WE2008 Wii. There were 3 posters and a chart explaining the game controls at Yamada Denki. There is also a kiosk being set up at Wanpaku. It's nothing compared to the advertising for DMC or the PS2/s60.PS3 version of WE (a few months ago), but it's much more than I expected.

8. The local Otaku are playing Smash and two of them picked up Oneechanbara. really the hardcore otaku is the only demographic that bought it. They are currently talking about the DS Sakura Taisen game. Several of them are getting it but all are worried about the changes made to the game system. Despited being an Otaku favorite, I expect STDS to not sell very well (but still profit since it's a DS title).

Haha, I need pictures of this drawing.

Wow @ Smash. A million in eleven days?! What's the LTD of SSBM in Japan? Surely the Wii version is selling much better than it.

That puts the Wii at twenty million sellers! (REUC surely reached the million mark by now as the latest sales by Capcom weren't including January NPD sales)

Nice to see DMC4 selling good, though it should have sold more. Family Ski also sold reasonably. Seems to have legs and will probably reach 150k+.

mmhh.. I think you haven't been following media create threads in the last months.

for a Wii 3rd party game to appear on the MC top 30 list, no matter when, no matter what, took a freaking miracle to happen.

most wii 3rd party games are lucky to sell 4000 copies...

I second that! I'd love a picture of this if it's manageable! :D

The 3 PSP games have probably sold as many units as the 14 DS games. Not that it will keep the "PSP sells no games, lol" crowd from bitching.

You might want to add this week to that statement because one of those fourteen games just happens to be NSMB, a game probably the equal of the top five best selling PSP games.
