Amazing debut by Mario Kart - far and away the best debut of the series. The question is whether it will have the incredible legs that Mario Kart DS has.

We might know if it doesn't pretty quickly, but we won't know if it does for another couple of years.

I am starting to think the only people in Japan who buy 360 games are not Japanese.

One of my friend is an example. A British guy working Deaf Japan school who I have his LIVE name.

great debut for MKWii.

i wonder if it'll have the undead legs of MKDS and will stick around until the next mario kart comes out..

speaking of that, is this the first time a mario kart comes out with a predecessor still selling steady?

I think that portable games tend to have greater legs. I can be wrong though.

Awesome sales anyway :D

They're saving that for the DS :lol
I'm sure the millions buying the PSP versions would love that :p
(in any case, the existing sales and PSP<-->Wii assets means there will always be a PSP version)

Doesn't look likely from an LTD viewpoint... In fact I wonder if Smash Bros. X will come out ahead of MHP2ndG in the end too.

Smash Bros sales make me kind of sad. It's falling off faster than I would've thought.

But Mario Kart and Monster Hunter are ridiculous.

It could definitely do it. Besides it just being a hugely popular franchise, it's also on a system with a higher install base (PSP > Wii install base, though I don't know the actual numbers) and MH costs quite a bit less than Wii Fit to boot.

Nintendo should sell more games in big boxes. Next Zelda with Wii Sword packed-in confirmed.

I'm expecting that to sell great but it's not Monster Hunter 3 Portable.
OK... can we get off of this please? This game is about to sell 2 million copies on the PSP, and is a franchise almost single-handedly keeping the handheld's sales afloat. This is NOT behavior exhibited just because it's on a handheld. This kind of trending for a game series used to only be reserved for FINAL FANTASY and DRAGON QUEST.

The series is a seller now... I'm sure putting it on a console that most of Japan will already own anyways by the time it comes out will mean that it will somehow become crippled in sales? UGH, stupid GAF hive-mind is at it again...

You're in a sales thread.
It's roughly 8 million to 5 million for PSP, though that gap is closing, given that the PSP's 2-year head start doesn't seem overly apparent the further we go.

Turok?

Really, Japan? Of all the western shooters...

If it makes you feel any better, based on the Famitsu numbers, #30 is in the 3000s. Very slow week this past week.

Not anytime soon.

honestly, only 2 games in the top 30?? The hardware sales have been insane lately too. Maybe once all the people beat monster hunter they will start picking up some more games for the PSP. Well Sony must hope so!

Maybe it's just fanboy delusions but I'm personally not yet ruling out the possiblity of Wii, PSP and PS3 version (further down the line).

The PSP hardware sales, as obvious from your lament, have little to nothing to do with game sales. It is not competing as a primarily gaming device, anymore.

I disagree. I think it is being driven by games. Or should I say "game". If Monster Hunter can resonate like is has with the Japanese public, then i see no reason why another PSP game can't do the same in the future.

Nah, Nintendo made a pretty big deal about it, so I doubt it.

The reason Monster Hunter Portable is so popular, mostly is because it's on a portable system and you can play it everywhere, plus the fact that you can gather up with friends and have game parties anywhere, not limited to your family room -->> which also pushes all your friends to buy the same game, and created a trend in the community + super long legs for MHP2.

The Wii version will probably sell well, but without portability, the sales probably will trail behind the portable versions, just like the PS2 versions which were around 600k.
