So Wii Fit managed to hold off being passed by Monster Hunter. It was getting pretty close there for awhile.

What is the second week # of previous MGS games ? Just wanted to compare MGS4 second week with those.
I'm also curious about that. 68K is a pretty respectable second week though, especially for a game as unapologetically hardcore as MGS4.

The first week of sales numbers for big game is always super boring, it's the second week when real information is revealed through sales.

Huge drop for Metal Gear. I'm shocked it didn't stay above 100k at least.

Yeah, I read retailers already have tons of used copies and fear prices for brand new ones will also drop soon.

That's a pretty precipitous drop no matter how you slice it. PSP software is doing well lately -- Sony is surely happy to see their systems eating up half the top 10 even if the lower positions aren't doing so hot.

MGS3 had a first week of 487k and a second week of 123k. Not sure about the others.

It's not that bad, it's doing quite well, if you ask me. Although it's probably on the way down from here on out.

Ok I kind of hate being a dick here but it's not like it's going to start trending up from here on out.

Is it just used MGS4 copies or are we also seeing consoles as well? I recall reports of both happening with Blue Dragon...

The MGS4 drop was bad, real fucking bad. I expected around 125K, but 70K is a far cry from that. It's on par with MGS3 sales in Japan though when you sum the amounts of MGS3 1st and 2nd week.

Hahaha - suck it Metal Gear!

I can't wait for some hare brained DS game to put the nail in it's drama coffin.

Konami, stop letting Loljima waste your god damn moneys!

I didn't think Metal Gear would drop that much.

I guess we should be expecting a similar drop from the PS3, with it having sold, what, 20k?

I still think MGS is a very positive sign for PS3. Matching MGS3 after two weeks on a system with as small a userbase as PS3 is definitely not shabby.

PS3 still has a long fight back towards respectability however.

Precipitous yes, but not unexpected given the series' niche appeal and the dedication of its fanbase. I guess I was more pessimistic about its future than most.

If what people are saying about a glut used copies appearing pretty quickly is true, expect what happened to Crisis Core to happen to MGS4. Online play, apparently, does not have such a broad appeal in Japan as in the US.

I am thinking lower for hardware around 15k.

All depends on how flooded the used market gets with MGS4 copies and PS3s in the next few weeks. It's not really a good sign if the userbase ends up shrinking.

I would imagine the installed base of PS3 prior to MGS4 would remain fairly consistent. Mainly showing up are MGS4 bundles, apparently.

Japan is portable country. Get used to it.

I dont think Japan has any problem with HD Gaming. I just think Sony hasnt figured out what exactly Japan wants. Its obviously not the same games they were getting last generation just with better graphics. (Not to say MGS4 is that, but you can see how the confusion is made.)
